10. Sabrina Carpenter - Taste

 

 

 

Does it hold up?: I mentioned in my countdown last year that I had a clear top 9 and it was a battle between many for the all-important tenth spot and, a year on, I think I made the right choice with Taste. Sabrina has had another brilliant year in my eyes with my personal highlight being able to see her live for a third time. This remains such a fun track, paired with one of her best videos and hasn't lost any of its charm.

2024 Re-Cap

09. ITZY - UNTOUCHABLE

 

 

Does it hold up?: After having their biggest year in my chart in 2024, ITZY have probably had their quietest year this time around but that hasn't stopped UNTOUCHABLE from being a massive banger. This would certainly be my pick for their best ever release and it was very deserving of giving them their first ever EOY top 10 placement in my charts.

08. Ariana Grande - we can't be friends (wait for your love)

 

 

Does it hold up?: I think this is one that's actually grown in my affections this year. we can't be friends (wait for your love) was the big hit from the album, peaking at #2 in the UK and having a longer chart run than 'yes, and?', but being the single released alongside the album meant that it was a tad overshadowed for me as I was listening to the project as a whole and not necessarily seeking this out on its own single. I'm loving it at the moment and the 'Eternal Sunshine of the Mind' recreation in the video is brilliant.

I really like "We Can't Be Friends", my favourite from her "Eternal Sunshine" album.

07. beabadoobee - Take A Bite

 

 

Does it hold up?: This is probably the song from my top 10 that I've listened to the least the year but that is probably because bea is the only artist from my top 10 to not release new music in 2025. I've just listened to Take A Bite again now and its sounding as good as ever. Quite a unique sound but it suits her style so well.

06. Madison Beer - make you mine

 

 

Does it hold up?: This still sounds so good! Between make you mine, 15 MINUTES & yes baby, she has really found her own style of atmospheric, moody dance-pop that sounds so good. Roll on the new album (featuring this song) in January.

Really like "Make You Mine" from the two selections, really catchy!

05. LISA feat. ROSALÍA - New Woman

 

 

Does it hold up?: This still sounds great but it's maybe that would drop a few positions if I were to re-rank this top 10. New Woman probably got a little bit lost with the new singles she released this year from her album and it didn't get any love during the two BLACKPINK concerts I attended this year but it's still the best solo single LISA has released.

04. Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso

 

 

Does it hold up?: In a year where pop music really hit, the song that will probably go down as the defining song of 2024 was Espresso. It feels older as you can see the impact its already had (and not just because no-one pronounces it 'Expresso' anymore) in releases this year, especially Taylor's new album. It's hard to say whether this has held up as its remained pretty much ineluctable to this day. A star-making song and it's very easy to hear why.

03. Sabrina Carpenter - Juno

 

 

Does it hold up?: Yes!!! One of my highlights of the year was seeing Sabrina live (for the third time) back in March and the centrepiece of the show is undoubtably her Juno performance. It's a travesty that this never got it's proper moment as a single even if it did get a few weeks in the chart after other songs went to ACR.

02. Taylor Swift - I Can Do It With a Broken Heart

 

 

Does it hold up?: From Taylor's 2020s output (her imperial phase you may suggest), I Can Do It With a Broken Heart still stands tall as my favourite song. In hindsight, maybe ranking it #2 was a little generous but who could help being caught up in the Taylor mania last year, The Eras Tour was something very special and listening to this will always take me right back there. There's some really nice flourishes in this song (i.e. the click track) and that's what elevates this into being such a standout track in her long discography.

01. Ariana Grande - yes, and?

 

 

Does it hold up?: It still feels like it was an odd choice to introduce the world to the eternal sunshine era but yes, and? is the early Madonna-inspired slice of house-pop that I didn't know that I needed. I'm already counting down the days until I finally get to see Ari perform on tour again so this is still in rotation for me regularly.

Glad to see "Espresso", "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" and "Yes, and?" being in your top 10 of last year.
