Like most people on this website, this time last year, I did not get Gracie Abrams. But I got a chance to attend her concert last year and thought I'd give her music some spins beforehand and she really won me over. 'Risk' was the lead single to the album and is the oldest song in this list, originally being released in May 2024. There's a lot of ballads in her discography but this one is so upbeat and really nails the nervy-excitement of a crush and getting far too ahead of yourself. This has lost none of its impact for me despite frequent listens and I still get swept away with the strings and guitar strums. Gracie really impressed me at the concert too; she sounded good, she was able to make an arena feel quite intimate and her interaction with the crowd was really sweet.

The first of two songs from my second-favourite album of 2025, 'Woes of The World' was the final single leading into the long-awaited release of the album and managed a couple of weeks in my chart before dropping out. But it was brought back with a vengeance when the album did release to reach my top #5. No ID's production is immaculate throughout the whole album and Saba is on top of his game with fiendish flows and top-notch wordplay. The hook here is definitely one of the most memorable and the verses are both insanely good. 2025 was not a strong year for Rap overall but at least we got this album that is as good as anything else released so far this decade.

I think I've done Lorde a bit dirty in this chart as 'Favourite Daughter' deserved a top #100 placement and this should really be in the top 50. I've always enjoyed the odd single here and there from Lorde but it wasn't until 'Virgin' until I've really loved a whole album and it was definitely the lead single 'What Was That' which got me on board instantly. I've found this to be one of the catchiest songs of the year with the chorus sticking with me from that first listen. There's just a great energy to this song where it feels so kinetic and without any lulls. The album inspired me to get a ticket to see Lorde in November and this and 'Green Light' were such massive highlights. The energy for both was insane.

2025 71 See U Tonight (feat. ILLIT)

My introduction to Kylie Cantrall, 'Goodie Bag' had one week at #20 and then disappeared for a couple months. However, then 'Denim' properly broke-out for me and the 'B.O.Y.' EP turned out to be fun, this made a re-appearance and stuck around well. This is a cute R&B-Pop hybrid that feels quite fresh compared to the current trends. One thing I really like about this is that it feels authentic. In the same vein to why I think Olivia Rodrigo post-Disney music was so popular, this feels lyrically like what a 19-year old would write. I'm really excited to see where she goes from here because I think she has lots of potential.

Best Part: The fun music video

2025 88 Take It or Leave It

In a case of starting very much as I mean to go on, the second half of my list begins with the first of Alessi Rose's 9 entries into my top 50. This was the first song of hers I ever heard back on 4th January last year which kickstarted the new obsession. I do think this is sonically very similar to another song that has recently appeared, Gracie Abrams's 'Risk', so its no surprise to see that both songs credit the same co-writer, Audrey Hobert. Someone else who is finding success with her own music. It's another track that includes a banger bridge. The cheat code to appearing in my EOY list it seems.

It turns out the top 50 is actually being kicked off by both the artists that will dominate this section as Sabrina lands her first of six from the top-half of the chart. 'House Tour' has managed respectable chart positions worldwide but, just like with 'Juno' from 'Short n Sweet' it feels like the Espresso-sized smash that got away. This song is just joy and is a perfect example of the sense of fun that Sabrina has re-accentuated into the pop genre in recent years. It's very much Man's Best Friend's 'Nonsense' where its completely unserious and, despite her promises of the contrary, just an excuse for Sabrina to list of any many double-entendres (this time with a property focus) as she can possibly can. I think there was some backlash to this album overall, with suggestions it may be verging on self-parody and a repeat of her earlier work, but I don't think I'd ever get tired of this type of pure joyous pop.

Very nice of Dave to drop the video just in time for its entry here. A rare ultra-commercial track from Dave's latest LP, there's no shock that 'Raindance' has been the single and massive hit from the album. I'm usually more onboard with the rap-ier tracks from Dave rather than his R&B-tinged work but this one is something special. Tems sounds heavenly on her verse and chorus while Dave really elevates what could have been a MOR track with added layers, such as the Ol' Dirty bast*rd sampling outro and the interpolating of classic Wayne, Drake and Dem Franchize Boyz lyrics. Tems singing 'I love you' is potentially the best second of music all year. And having just watched the video for the first time, has anyone managed to nail the vibe of a song in the video as much as Dave has with this and 'Chapter 16' in recent times?

Best Part: Tems's post-chorus

Those chart histories 😫 The first of the tracks from the deluxe of 'eternal sunshine' in my top 100, 'past life' is probably my favourite moment vocally from the new tracks, especially in the pre-chorus. That's the full-blown vocal attack that we know and love and has been missing from the last couple of albums. And to make this vocals hit even more, we have the strings and bass selling the drama of Ari's performance. With a couple of tweaks, I could see this fitting right in with the Dangerous Woman era which (depending on the day) is maybe my favourite Ari album (but also maybe TUN or My Everything kink) The people (me) NEED this one on the tour this year please Ari!

Best Part: Hearing Ari properly belting out some vocals again

Bookending today's section is Alessi Rose with her still-charting deluxe track 'Get Around'. When she released the final two deluxe tracks, I thought she'd already secured enough of my EOY positions and there's no way she could release even more flat-out bangers in the same year but here we are with this landing 46th! She has put something into this song because that chorus is addictive and (say it with me) a banger of a bridge! I enjoyed singing along to that one on tour. What a year she's had in my charts tough, she has a LOT of pressure to live up to it now when her debut album is eventually released. It feels like an impossible task. 🤣

Best Part: The whispered 'I like your Adam's apple'

2025 85 TIT FOR TAT

2025 95 Revolving door

Tate's sixth and final entry this year is stand-out album track 'Purple lace bra' at #45. Quite low down for someone who was my third most-played artist in 2025 but it just further backs up my point that while the 'So Close To What' era is by far her strongest (and most productive with so many EOY hits), no one song has reached the absolute high-mark of her best singles. 'Purple lace bra' is the always relevant tale of women feeling voiceless and that (especially the media) value their femininity or sexuality over anything. It's, rightly, an often discussed topic (see America Ferrera's monologue in Barbie) but Tate avoids being saccharine and finds something fresh to say through some blunt analogies and by leaning into the sultry production so the song almost sounds like a Weeknd-esque sex-jam if you don't pay attention to the lyrics. But a good message doesn't necessarily make a song great and what elevates this is the great string-y production, some of Tate's catchiest melodies and one her best vocal performances.

Best Part: Hearing a different side of Tate through a broader topic

After bagging seven EOY hits from her debut album, Leah's sophomore album is a little more lean with 'Meltdown' being just one of two from the album to appear (Leah does have one-more to come but it's a non-album single). After initially thinking this wasn't one of her strongest, it's ended up getting stuck in my head constantly and becoming of her catchiest hits. This was released alongside 'ill' as the lead single (the modern equivalent of double-A side I suppose) and for the first week, I was expecting 'ill' to be the big-hit in my chart. That one felt a bit fresher and a new sound while this felt slightly derivate of her previous songs but, in the end, they're the reason I became a fan so that's kinda what I want from her. 🤣

Best Part: The karaoke-themed video that matches the vibe of the song

Janet Devlin's EOY History:

She's definitely been the most frequent discussion point from my chart so far but this was my re-introduction to Janet in late 2024 and it won me over on first listen. I believe it was Boxing Day and I was in the car on the way home from watching the football and this was played on Radio 2. It's not overtly country like her other entries and it's instead a pretty traditional folky-ballad. I think most times I would have just passed me by because it is a bit MOR but there was just something, and I'm not sure what, that really drawn me in. It's a really sweet track and it's sung well. I haven't been keeping up with it at all but I think I remember seeing that this was entered to BJSC this year. No idea how it did but, if I like it, them I'm guessing not well. 😄 The second #2 hit to drop out this year and they've both been songs with multiple weeks at the peak.

Best Part: The catchiness of the chorus's opening line

The Favors's EOY History:

2025 42 The Little Mess You Made

The Favors are a super-group formed in 2025 that consists of two vocalists and very close friends, Ashe and FINNEAS (Billie EIlish's brother and producer) alongside Ricky Gourmet and David Marinelli. If you've followed my charts before you will know that I'm quite a big fan of Ashe so this team-up certainly left me intrigued. The whole album is pretty solid and well worth a listen but the lead single was expertly chosen as its the clear standout 'The Little Mess You Made'. I'm pretty shocked I've missed this out from my EOY top 40 because I love this track and feel like its going to hold up very well as the years go on. It starts off unassuming but by the time we get to them powering their vocals towards each other in the bridge, the hairs on the back of your neck are standing up. Proper rollercoaster of a song! FINNEAS and Ashe sound so good together that now, in retrospect, it now feels crazy that they waited this long to start a band. It might not have been my favourite song of the year but I may be inclined to say it's one of the best songs of the year.

Best Part: The harmonies between the two lead singers

2024 25 Rockstar

2024 36 Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me)

2025 41 FXCK UP THE WORLD

Another multi-week #2 hit! Just missing out on the EOY top 40 is 'FXCK UP THE WORLD', the only one of the five singles from 'Alter Ego', going back to last year, to do so. The version of the main album features a guest verse from Future but it's actually the solo version that made my playlists. Future feels like he's phoning it in and I much prefer hearing an extra verse from LISA. I actually feel like I'm appreciating this one more now than I did at the time of its release. It's purposefully unclean and LISA's raps are pure mania. I can confirm that within the top 40, we will see BLACKPINK and a group and each member as a soloist, with one of them having two tracks still to come.

Best Part: The absolute chaos of the ATL Jacob production

I liked but didn't love Solar Power as a lead single, thankfully What Was That was a significant improvement for me!

Kicking off my top 40 songs of the year is my all-time favourite artist Ariana Grande with her deluxe album-track 'warm'. This is quite an understated song which is maybe why it ended up being a grower for me. We all know that Ari can belt it out with the best of them when she wants to and, if this had been on one of her earlier albums, I think we would have got a demonstration of that. But she shows great restraint here, not going for the high notes, and letting the lyrics really sell the power of the song. It's an apt title for this song because if there was one adjective that I feel perfectly encapsulates the mood of the song it would be 'warm'. Like a musical embrace. And Ari knew what she was doing using the phrase 'hold the space'

Best Part: The whole vibe of the song
