I couldnt afford to go to the recent tour but just watched it on dvd tonight as someone recorded it for me from the tv. I was a bit surprised at the number of non-greatest hits songs that she sung considering it was supposed to be a greatest hits type tour. She did Butterfly, Dreams, Cowboy Style, Too far, Light years, Burning up/vogue and somewhere over the rainbow. Although she sang them well, I would have liked more of the greatest hits. She missed a number of my favourites out such as Got to be certain, Je ne sais pas pourqoui, wouldnt change a thing, never too late, what do I have to do, step back in time and giving you up. Does she have some kind of contractual deal with the record companies at her tours where she has to sing a certain percentage of songs from each era?

Any artist is free to perform any song they wish. If an artist leaves a record deal, they may not own the rights to the recordings, but they will still be able to sing any of the songs live, as can any other artist who wishes to cover it. The PRS (Performing Rights Society) then ensure the songwriters get paid accordingly.

Yes, I am a music student! :P

I wouldn't trust me really! This is the subject I messed up an exam on last week! But I seem to remember that bit before falling asleep in the lecture!
