January 21Jan 21 This is a great album. I absolute love LONG.LIVE.A$AP, a true masterpiece of an album but nothing since has wow'd me like that. This doesn't quite match those heights still but there are so many great moments throughout. Definitely returning to it and glad he's back with a bang.
January 26Jan 26 Has got the #1 album in the US this week after being in a very close 3 way race hooray - may have been pushed over the line by a rather desperate last minute re-release with 2 extra songs, only one of which was actually new while the other was just 'I Smoked Away My Brain' (a mashup of two songs from 2011 which came out in 2023 lol, nothing to do with this album but it is his #1 popular song on Spotify), cynical move but at least it got the job done xx Apparently some of its vinyl sales haven't shipped on time otherwise it would have been #1 much more comfortably. It's his third #1, he got there with his first two albums but 'TESTING' only got to #4.First album I've actually listened to from him and it's solid on the whole, 'AIR FORCE (BLACK DEMARCO)' is the easy standout track for me, love the contrast between the megabanger sections and the more subdued parts also kind of here for the unhinged energy of 'STFU' (though I see it's a divisive one lol), the jazzy vibes of 'ROBBERY' and the surprisingly ~deep~ 'THE END', plus a good handful of more straightforward bangers / vibes in 'HELICOPTER', 'STOLE YA FLOW', 'PLAYA' and 'NO TRESPASSING' ~ + 'PUNK ROCKY' has definitely warmed up to me with more listens, very odd choice of lead single really as he doesn't lean into that sound at all on any of the other songs on the album but we stan the versatility xDisappointing that the song featuring Gorillaz and Westside Gunn literally only used them for background vocals and ad libs though, that song ended up feeling like one of the more limp ones on the tracklist. The Tyler collab was also an unfortunately low impact one for me.
