50 NE 01 50 SUNDAY SLOWDOWN Beddy Rays

We have a new #1. No, it didn't come out in 2026, but it's the first time in many, many weeks that it's not by an artist named Olivia. Ella Langley gets the job done and invites a whole new potentially lengthy reign only because new monster hits just don't come along every day now. On the other hand, it looks like she maxed out her potential last week so she'll just have to hang on well enough not to give the spot back to Olivia Dean. There are no new entries this week but it is amusing to note that Myles Smith has come soaring back to the charts, only to be removed next week as the song is now too old, along with "I Had Some Help". Or maybe not, because "Love Me Not" should have exited the chart this week (and does debut on the On Replay chart) but is still here.

Noah Kahan is #1 for a 3rd week in a row. His streaming numbers receded considerably this week so it's quite possible that Olivia Dean is ready to overtake him, but in reality I suspect we'll be getting a new entry at #1 next week. I do not have an opinion on that album because I haven't listened to it, but I have some stellar advice to consider. Spot an obvious marketing/talking point gimmick for what it is, ignore it, and actually talk about the good stuff. Seeing a lot of people on the timeline complaining about a rap album (or three), not a lot talking about Genesis Owusu's very good new album. Missing information, no doubt in my mind. Behind the streaming giants, the highest new entry this week is The Jungle Giants. Their last album went to #1. Black Veil Brides have never had a top 10 album but they do enter the top 20 for the 4th time now. Josh Groban has notched up 14 top 50 albums now though this is his first one in 6 years. Melbourne singer-songwriter Kathleen Halloran enters with her debut album, while Neil Diamond, the only musician capable of tormenting viewers both during the footy and during the commercials between the footy has an actually new album. Audrey Hobert belatedly enters the top 50 for the first time, just a handful of spots behind her brother's album which scores a new peak this week and I remind you should not be on the chart because it's too old. Kiwi singer Aldous Harding gets her second top 50 album. Australian jazz singer Simone Waddell has been releasing music for about 30 years now and charts for the first time, but waiting even longer are Social Distortion who are just now getting their first chart entry, 43 years after their debut album was released. Australian punk-surf-rock band Beddy Rays close out the chart with an EP.

50 NE 01 50 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST VIENNA 2026 Various Artists

Ella Langley is #1 for a 2nd week. She'll face some competition from Olivia as per usual this week, as it looks like "the cure" has shown strong momentum on the weekend and climbed to #1 on Spotify yesterday. We're seeing fruits of the exclusionary rules of the ARIA Chart this week as it allows Drake to chart nearly every song from "ICEMAN" in the top 50, no entries from the other albums sighted, though there's a slight overlap in the track lists if you check the Hip-Hop chart. On the other hand, the exclusionary rules got a little less exclusionary this week as following a missed chance last week, The Chemical Brothers have been allowed to return this week with "Go". Back in 2015, the song was a top 60 hit, so this is its first time in the top 50. This extends Q-Tip's incredible run of not being credited in hit songs, going back to 1990's "Groove Is In The Heart", and he was most recently not seen back when MK & Dom Dolla's "Rhyme Dust" was in the top 50. In case you wanted to know, Ed & Tom had 4 top 50 hits from 1996 to 2005, but the highest they'd ever gotten was when "Hey Boy Hey Girl" reached #25. So "Go" is now their highest charting song ever. Gracie Abrams also returns to the top 50 though in fairness she was also in the top 50 last week. This particular song was not co-written with Audrey Hobert so we've missed another chance for her to be charting next to her brother. Malcolm Todd has even managed to thread the needle and not land next to Aubrey. I had the feeling "Hit The Wall" would climb next week but it absolutely collapsed on Spotify yesterday so I don't know what to think anymore.

On the album chart this week, someone who I think could have maybe been called a rapper once upon a time has multiple debuts this week. I'm of course talking about YUNGBLUD, who gives us both part 2 and a complete edition of "IDOLS", which reached #1 on the chart earlier this year. Drake also lands 3 debuts this week including his 6th #1 album. "MAID OF HONOUR" is his lowest charting album since "Take Care". I'm going to double down on what I said last week. On the weekend, there were two footy games being played at the same time, one was a near-top of the table clash between 1st & 3rd, two very serious premiership fancies this year (3rd won), the other was between two former powerhouses on middling to bad form this year but nonetheless very popular teams. That game was notable because the all-time games record was being broken, something the media has been glazing for weeks on end and everyone on the internet who isn't a fan of that particular team (who are in fact also the most loathed team in the comp) made it very clear how sick they were of hearing it. Call it a Goomba fallacy if you must, but when the day arrived, considerably more people chose the hate watch over the love of the game. You can't possibly expect things to get better if you keep choosing to harvest eye & ear periphery to these things you dislike. I'll start to accuse you of going out of your way to get mad, and then there's just no getting out of that spiral. A lot of people who should know better than to get sucked into talking about and listening to Drake just can't help themselves. If you recognise that releasing 3 albums at once is a gimmick for attention, don't give it that. Just move on with your day, or heaven forbid, talk about something else. Me? I was listening to the new Genesis Owusu album, and you should know that it's very good, especially if one of your grievances with Drake is the political affiliations his general apathy seems to make him associate with. He actually manages to get his highest charting album this week, twice now beating out his labelmates who if nothing else, are at least helping fund the promotion of his albums. Stella Lefty charts an album here for the first time, and I nearly said that was the same for Rose Carleo except she actually charted about a decade ago. Since then, the Perth singer made the top 16 on The Voice last year.

After a bit of chaos, we've returned to what we know, Olivia at #1. You can make the observation that Australia is competing with Ireland to be Olivia Rodrigo's biggest fan, because they're the two countries where she has 5 #1 singles. It also creates another one of those goofy trivia tidbits where Olivia Rodrigo has a #1 hit that mentions "Just Like Heaven" and it's not "the cure". This was poised to be a pretty unsubstantial week but we were presented with a surprise late twist. Being used on Off Campus has allowed "Bed On Fire" by G Flip to sneak into the top 50 this week, which is a big 🚨 AUSTRALIAN DEBUT KLAXON 🚨. This is their first ever top 50 hit which takes them out of contention from ever beating Weezer's record for the most top 100 hits without a top 50 (they had 5 prior to this). I suspect you'll see a pretty decent climb next week and then we have to see if everyone can latch onto this or if that'll be all the excitement. I have lately been noting that triple j and the Australian music industry aren't really getting any credit for breaking new artists because everyone gets it from TikTok now and shuts out local musicians, this time we have a freakin' receipt because you could've already known about this song by peeping this year's Hottest 100 where it landed at #74, the lowest of 3 G Flip songs.

Maisie Peters enters at #1 this week for the first time in her career. She previously entered at #4 in 2023. She hasn't really had a hit single here, but she did get #100 in the 2023 Hottest 100 so there's that. Australian rock band Hands Like Houses return after a peculiar 2025 album that didn't make much of an impact with their new lead singer. Now they're just back to where they've been before and nearly scoring their highest charting album ever at #5. Then we've got a first ever chart appearance for Australian singer aleksiah. It has to be said that this is an incredibly strong performance given it's just a 5 track EP where 4 songs had already been released as singles. I'll admit I'm not sure what it's doing on the album chart because traditionally 5 track EPs have been singles (the one I always think of is the self-titled Art vs. Science EP). Amyl and the Sniffers are here to distract us from the weird photoshoot drama and have packaged their first two EPs which are now charting for the first time. Hard rock turned soft country band Kingswood are back with their first non-independent album in a while and it's their first to chart since 2023.

Ella Langley returns to #1 for a 3rd week. For the first time in about 9 months, we don't have anyone named Olivia in the top 2. We're going very well with names that end in 'a' though, as Ariana Grande returns to the chart with her latest single at #2. This is the 4th time in her career that she has debuted at #2 with a song that debuted at #1 in America, one of those interesting by-products of America focused marketing that gets about 80% across over here, but in the world of winning on slim margins, means this is a very regular story! It will be interesting to see if the same thing happens next week with Taylor Swift's new single, which is normally a safe enough bet to get across in Australia, but looks a little touch & go so far this week. Malcolm Todd manages to sneak into the top 10 behind the main story. We've also got a big rise for G Flip consolidating the initial hype. The only debut this week is Noah Kahan's "The Orbiter" which is now the highest song on the chart from his album because all the other entries have fallen out now.

Drake returns to #1 for a second week with "ICEMAN". You probably don't need me to tell you, but this is very much the kind of return to #1 that means falling, but not having reached back to the peloton yet. I mean look at this chart. Boards of Canada have only charted once before, and now they're all of a sudden getting a huge career high at #3. Paul McCartney gets his highest charting album since 2018 while Shinedown cause a slight missed opportunity that's pretty wild for a band that have never charted higher than #37 before. Australian country singer Amber Lawrence is coming in a little lower than she did last time but still much higher than most of her previous albums. aespa get their first ever charting album, as does Chloe Parché whose accented 'é' is missing on the ARIA Chart. I like her music.

Taylor Swift scores her 14th #1 hit this week. She's done the genius move of releasing it during a slow period as I don't think this was quite the showstopping lock at #1 that she's prone to. With Olivia Rodrigo's album out next week, she could be in for a serious decline week on week, though I expect when Toy Story 5 is released, the song should recover somewhat. Expect a new #1 single next week as I feel pretty confident in saying that "stupid song" is doing enough. The big question on everyone's minds is whether or not Ireland will respond, or will their undying love of Kingfishr break the deadlock and make Australia the only country that has sent all of the likely Olivia Rodrigo songs to #1. The top 20 this week is largely songs that are unmoved if not for Taylor Swift and The Chemical Brothers. Before I had any chance to post outdated lies on my blog, Mac Miller has a new highest charting single. Previously, he got to #27 with "Good News", but now "Cinderella" enters at #23 and should climb again next week. "Cinderella" comes from his album "The Divine Feminine" which notably contains the song "Dang!", which charted higher in Australia than anywhere else in the world. American musician Alyssa Grace only has 3 songs out but debuts a new one in the top 50. She is not to be confused by the Kiwi musician of the same name whose website mentions that she's inspired by Phoebe Bridgers, as does this Alyssa's Spotify profile. We're getting some strange application of the new rules at the moment, where it seems the previously understood rule that it's required to be in the top 30 doesn't count for quite as much. This week Katy Perry returns with "The One That Got Away" (it sure is strange to see this big uptick for Katy Perry's marketing not long after she was accused of SA), while The Beaches get their first ever top 50 hit with "Edge Of The Earth". That same album has the song "Blame Brett" which finished at #101 in the Hottest 100. The Kid LAROI also returns with "GIRLS" though it should theoretically be a few weeks away from being taken off the chart.

If you're a believer in the long time tradition of dinner and a show, then I have great news for you, because Niall Horan scores his second #1 album with "Dinner Party", after "The Show" got to #1 in 2023. I thought it was cute. He comes out ahead of Evanescence who score their highest chart position since their first two albums got to #1. I don't know if anyone here reading this watches "The Rehearsal" but the second season had one of the all-time great needle drops with how it utilised "Bring Me To Life" last year. Malcolm Todd has a new album that actually should be on the chart right now, and it smashes his previous best to a new high of #3. This past week, ARIA held its Hall of Fame ceremony, which was actually televised separately from the ARIA Awards for possibly the first time. It's ARIA's 40th anniversary or thereabouts and they made a big show of it by going all out on inductions. They often lately have only put through one artist each year, but there were 6 this year. Pertinent this week were Vika & Linda, who've had a significant career renaissance in the 2020s and return to the chart with a #11 album, while also inducted were other big '90s icons The Living End, and their most recent album returns to the chart this week. Rum Jungle enter at #19 this week, a year after they had a #9 album. UK singer Freya Skye charts for the first time with her debut EP, a bit higher than she charted in her home country, but that's different chart rules for you. Australian band The Pretty Littles have been around for well over a decade and have charted for the first time this week, just ahead of Vince Staples who charts his 5th top 50 album, which I want to listen to because I'm obsessed with "Cotton" at the moment. Jeff Goldblum also gets his first charting album this week. Back in 2019 he read a guest category on Jeopardy! and his clue reading was agonisingly slow.

Olivia Rodrigo secures her 6th #1 single. We have reached the logical conclusion of 2026 because we have an Olivia top 2 on both charts this week. Australia however does not achieve the isolated podium because Ireland also got O.Rod her 6th #1. Expect a recession for "stupid song" next week but it looks like a solid chance to retain the top spot. With Olivia Rodrigo's entire track list entering within the top 25, I mucked up last week when I said that Mac Miller would climb the chart, because he has instead done one of those 'we all know it's a climb but technically it isn't', and will need to maintain this for another week or so to actually reach the top 20. Otherwise there's another new entry in the top 50 by LE SSERAFIM, KATSEYE & ILLIT, which is a first time in the chart for LE SSERAFIM. Spare a thought for all those trivia players who've gotten by only knowing two K-Pop groups for many years who might need to actually learn some distinctions.

Olivia Rodrigo also secures her 3rd #1 album this week. The opposite of Mac Miller's situation is Drake managing to secure another 'we all know it's not a climb but technically it is'. Once a lock for the #1 spot, Keith Urban returns to the chart at #5, and is possibly drafting up a message to Olivia Rodrigo for parking in his spot. He has a somewhat contemporaneous companion next to him this week as Josh Pyke returns with his highest charting album since 2015. I recently learnt that Josh Pyke has become a children's author. A band I often think are Kiwi but are actually from Western Australia, South Summit return to the chart and score their first ever top 10 placer. Ruel very quickly returns to the chart with the sequel to his last album, though in doing so has missed the top 10 for the first time. It's a big week for Angine De Poitrine who now have both of their albums charting together, "Volume 1" entering for the first time. Between them we've got Dami Im's first album in 5 years and Bebe Rexha scoring her second ever top 50 album. Another big name in Western Australia, Spacey Jane sneak into the chart with an EP that wasn't actually released physically, so it's going all on digital sales & streams. Sonny Fodera also sneaks in with his first charting album, and strangely Leon Thomas does as well. I'm not sure what's prompted this big climb after the album's been out for well over a year now.

"I Knew It, I Knew You" returns for a second week at #1. I'm sure you can guess what happened here. On streams it's probably sitting just inside the top 10, which opens up exciting possibilities for next week as we could see a 1-11-1-11 chart run. On the other hand, Ariana Grande has so far charted 2-3-5-7, meaning the possibility of her hitting the 5th prime number is imperative on Taylor Swift not doing it instead. Mac Miller does in fact reach the top 20 this time, and there are no debuts this week, I love less work.

Olivia Rodrigo holds at #1 for a second week on the album chart. Observers of the chart will notice that Chillinit has swapped out the 'Women' from his very successful 2018 album for 'Wisdom', and as a result scores a 5th top 5 album. Pond return to the chart with their 7th top 50 entry, a band whose success no doubt baffles the 'Did you know Tame Impala is only one guy' crowd. You can track the popularity of Placebo in Australia pretty closely to the release of the film Cruel Intentions, so you may or may not be surprised to learn that their self-titled debut album is the only one that never charted in Australia. It came out 30 years ago as of June, and now gets some re-imbursement as the new re-issue does chart. Myles Smith charts his debut, while Leah Senior (no relation to Junior) also charts for the first time though she's released several albums. Your interesting fact to learn is that she is the woman providing spoken word to King Gizzard's "Murder of the Universe" album. Taking even longer to chart for the first time is Patrick Roberts, violinist.
