I think we just have to accept that’s the way people consume music now and it has to be reflected in the chart as imperfect as it is.

  • Love that Official Charts are bigging the song up on socials, with the suggestion it could chart tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing VB smash in at #87 on the downloads only chart…

  • #1, where she belongs! No doubt she will also be at #1 in the upcoming Spotify update

  • Must be close to doubling its original sales then

The astonishing thing right now is the amount of discourse online (Twitter and TikTok especially) about Victoria 'getting her first UK No.1' as if iTunes is gospel. I can't see that she will even go top 100 officially.

I've read people online sharing stories of the chats they've been having with colleagues at work, and that these colleagues really do believe that "Victoria Beckham is #1"! I think it anecdotally suggests that the average person just doesn't understand - or cares to understand - the official chart. They surely won't question that unless they have a chart follower in their lives to correct them. So they will happily take an out of context headline regarding Victoria's iTunes #1 as being the actual true #1. It wouldn't surprise me if a hell of a lot more people in the UK are currently under the belief that Victoria is #1 right now, more so than those who realise that it's actually Dave/Tems who are about to achieve that... which is amusing!
