Britney voluntarily checks into rehab for drugs and alcohol.

She checked in a few days ago somewhere in the United States. Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... people close to the singer had been urging her to check herself in and she finally agreed to do so voluntarily.

As one source put it ... "She realizes she hit rock bottom."

Britney has had issues with drugs -- in particular Adderall -- and alcohol for years. During her many trips to Mexico, she made it a point to replenish her Adderall supply.

Our sources say ... part of the reason she's gone to rehab now is because of her pending DUI case. As one source says, "She knows strategically this will look good in front of the judge -- that she's taking it seriously."

We're told her sons and other have been strongly supportive of the move.

The program is 30 days, but one source says, "Who knows, she could stay longer."

I think that going into rehab is the best thing for her. She definitely needs the help.

Best of luck to her and i really hope it works for her, id love her to get to the stage in her life where she has peace and can enjoy life and not be stuck on constant turmoil.

Kevin Federline issuing a statement about this is so ??? - they've been divorced for almost 20 years and their two children are both adults now. At this point it's never been more irrelevant what his thoughts about Britney are.

At least she's in the best possible place, and it's brave of her to make the move voluntarily (knowing the whole world will find out about it)

Britney Spears’ sons reportedly held an intervention for the singer before she voluntarily went to rehab for substance abuse.

An insider told the Daily Mail that Spears, 44, was “dragging her feet” about checking into the treatment facility after her March 4 DUI arrest — until Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, got involved.

“They’re the only ones she listens to, and they were so loving, so kind, but also so firm,” the source shared.

“This was non-negotiable to them. She needed to get help and they told her that they wouldn’t take no for an answer.”

According to the source, Spears’ boys, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline, threatened their relationship with the pop star to ensure she went to rehab.

“It was like, ‘Mom, you have to go if you want us coming around,'” the insider said, “and that was all the incentive she needed.”

The source continued, “She wants a relationship with them, which would have been jeopardized if she didn’t go. So she made the right move and they say she seems happy about it.”

Meanwhile, a People source similarly claimed on Monday that Jayden and Sean played “a big part” in getting their mom to rehab.

“They’ve been clear with her. They just want her to be healthy,” the insider said.

In addition, the source stated that Spears is “terrified of going to jail” and finally realized that checking into rehab is her “best option” to avoid landing behind bars.

“This was her own choice,” an exclusive source told Page Six.

“This isn’t about one substance in particular, it has a dual purpose…this is about Britney putting her mental health first and taking some time for herself to focus on the things that are important to her.”

The source added, “She’s dedicated to working on her health. This is something she really wants to do for herself.”

She's just doing it for the judge.

I'm really hoping things get better for her. She's been in such a bad headspace for a while now. Her son's seem so lovely to have given her an ultimatum because after the DUI charge it's very clear she needs as much help as possible.

Hopefully in a few months we get some form of update that she's out and doing better than ever.

Im hoping for the same and its great that she has the support of her sons as i would like to believe that will be a huge part of the ley to her recovery.

I hope she recovers quickly and that it will truly be beneficial for her.
