Britney voluntarily checks into rehab for drugs and alcohol.

She checked in a few days ago somewhere in the United States. Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... people close to the singer had been urging her to check herself in and she finally agreed to do so voluntarily.

As one source put it ... "She realizes she hit rock bottom."

Britney has had issues with drugs -- in particular Adderall -- and alcohol for years. During her many trips to Mexico, she made it a point to replenish her Adderall supply.

Our sources say ... part of the reason she's gone to rehab now is because of her pending DUI case. As one source says, "She knows strategically this will look good in front of the judge -- that she's taking it seriously."

We're told her sons and other have been strongly supportive of the move.

The program is 30 days, but one source says, "Who knows, she could stay longer."

I think that going into rehab is the best thing for her. She definitely needs the help.

Kevin Federline issuing a statement about this is so ??? - they've been divorced for almost 20 years and their two children are both adults now. At this point it's never been more irrelevant what his thoughts about Britney are.

At least she's in the best possible place, and it's brave of her to make the move voluntarily (knowing the whole world will find out about it)

Britney Spears’ sons reportedly held an intervention for the singer before she voluntarily went to rehab for substance abuse.

An insider told the Daily Mail that Spears, 44, was “dragging her feet” about checking into the treatment facility after her March 4 DUI arrest — until Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, got involved.

“They’re the only ones she listens to, and they were so loving, so kind, but also so firm,” the source shared.

“This was non-negotiable to them. She needed to get help and they told her that they wouldn’t take no for an answer.”

According to the source, Spears’ boys, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline, threatened their relationship with the pop star to ensure she went to rehab.

“It was like, ‘Mom, you have to go if you want us coming around,'” the insider said, “and that was all the incentive she needed.”

The source continued, “She wants a relationship with them, which would have been jeopardized if she didn’t go. So she made the right move and they say she seems happy about it.”

Meanwhile, a People source similarly claimed on Monday that Jayden and Sean played “a big part” in getting their mom to rehab.

“They’ve been clear with her. They just want her to be healthy,” the insider said.

In addition, the source stated that Spears is “terrified of going to jail” and finally realized that checking into rehab is her “best option” to avoid landing behind bars.

“This was her own choice,” an exclusive source told Page Six.

“This isn’t about one substance in particular, it has a dual purpose…this is about Britney putting her mental health first and taking some time for herself to focus on the things that are important to her.”

The source added, “She’s dedicated to working on her health. This is something she really wants to do for herself.”

I'm really hoping things get better for her. She's been in such a bad headspace for a while now. Her son's seem so lovely to have given her an ultimatum because after the DUI charge it's very clear she needs as much help as possible.

Hopefully in a few months we get some form of update that she's out and doing better than ever.

Im hoping for the same and its great that she has the support of her sons as i would like to believe that will be a huge part of the ley to her recovery.

I hope she recovers quickly and that it will truly be beneficial for her.

Britney Spears has the chance to avoid jail time in her DUI case, according to officials.

DUI prosecutors in the Ventura County District Attorney’s office filed a misdemeanor count against the pop star, 44, on Thursday, April 30, just days before she’s set to be arraigned.

Officials said that Spears will likely be offered what is known as a “wet reckless,” as she does not have a prior DUI history, there was no crash or injury in her arrest, and she had a low blood alcohol level.

Per standard protocol, a wet reckless allows a person to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and/or drugs and be put on probation for 12 months while receiving credit for any time spent in custody.

The person is required to complete a DUI class and must pay state-mandated fines and fees.

Officials said such a resolution is “common,” especially when the defendant “demonstrates self-motivation to address underlying issues through rehabilitation or a drug and alcohol treatment program.”

Spears will be arraigned in court on May 4, though officials said that because it is a misdemeanor charge, she is not required to attend, and can have her attorney appear for her.

Britney Spears has taken a plea deal, which sees her pleading guilty to a wet reckless, in her DUI case.

Spears, 44, was sentenced to 12 months probation and one day in jail, credited as time served, by Ventura County Commissioner Matthew Nemerson. She was fined $571.00 and must see a psychologist once a week and a psychiatrist twice a month. Her vehicle is authorized to be searched for drugs and alcohol.

"Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct.  She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI," Goldstein said in a statement following the arraignment. "Britney appreciates this discretion and is also grateful for the outpouring of support she has received."
