26th April 2026

It's 3 weeks on top for the very cinematic RAYE and Hans Zimmer, which means 3 weeks at 2 for Take That and 3 for Lykke Li, while Don McLean takes Vincent back into the top 10 for the first time in 54 years, for anyone wondering what the "v" is for. Marshmello grab a second top 10 of 2026 as Phoenix hits 8 with a leap, and Portugal. The Man get a 4th top 10 13 years on from their first, while Harry Styles adds to his top 10's with his first solo hit finally getting there thanks to Project Hail Mary. It's his 11th.

Stephen Sanchez is the biggest chart climber with his Feel It-ish new single, and the highest new track is a 3rd for Rosalia fresh off her expanded album, Focu 'Ranni at 59. One place behind Demi Lovato has a bangin' dance number, Love Controller, which needs to be a single, and the sad news that Alan Osmond has died gives me cause to return One Bad Apple to the chart - the song was the theme to their animated TV series in 1970 and a USA number one, but I didnt get to chart it at the time despite loving it, so it popped up in 1988 instead and peaked at 2. Alan was the oldest Osmond and had been ill for a long time, so it seems appropriate to go back to where their chart career started.

Teddy Swims keeps on with the new chart entries, Mr Know It All at 70 not being anything to do with Stevie Wonder's Misstra Know It All, and one spot ahead of a 90's recording and cover from Linda Ronstadt - In My Room is a great Brian Wilson/Beach Boys song and the treatment is more in line with her 60's stuff, which I far prefer to her Rock-cover era. It extends her chart run to 51 years though. Duran Duran are back with Nile Rodgers again, as they are wont to do since working with him on then-best singles in 1984, Free To Love giving the Durans' a 45 year span and Nile 48-year.

Blossoms bloom again at 75, behind Duran Duran, on Joke About Divorce, their 11th chart entry in 10 years-seems-like-5-years, while this week saw the passing of the final member of The Ronettes, Nedra Tally so I've debuted two of their singles that deserved a slot in my charts but havent done it before - Do I Love You at 78, produced by Phil Spector, and You Came You Saw You Conquered from 5 years later in 1969, a UK flop until it was covered by The Pearls in 1972 - the first version I charted. Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer was out again for World Record Store Day, and entered the sales chart so that gives me a first excuse to re-chart it 40 years on at 79.

That leaves the new UK and US number one Drop Dead to enter at 80 for Olivia Rodrigo, her 8th charter in 5 years, Niall Horan following up his current Drove Safe with Little More Time at 81, one ahead of the return of Reverend & The Makers now on well over a dozen chart entries, including 3 number ones, over 19 years, and joining them is Robbie Williams on his 4th of 2026 and well over 60 solo entries, not including Take That stuff and guest spots on other acts during his 35-year career!
