January 30, 200718 yr Author On my Q quiz game it said 'Manchester band Nine Inch Nails' but maybe the American Manchester?
January 30, 200718 yr Author ok, they are American :o don't know who it was, or if it was a mistake on the disc
January 30, 200718 yr I love the lyrics in Young & The Hopeless "These critics and these trust fund kids try to tell me what punk is, but when I see them on the street I got nothing to say" So really its no surprise that people are saying this about them again. More people saying they aint punk - yawn. It's been like 4 years now - change the record - I know they did as this new single is a great improvement from them. I have all their albums and they certainly have a pop edge but they are in no way a pop band. It's a shame that I cant come on here and talk about a song I like as people are just slagging them off constantly in the topic. I assume you've heard their 3 albums to justify how they evolved and if they did, seen their lyrical content and so on. What would you prefer - them to sound like they do or another cheesy pop band in the World. They aren't harming no one and take what they do seriously. They're also incredibly appreciative to their fans too. No one typing on a forum will convince me that GC aren't good. I like what they do.
January 30, 200718 yr Good Charlotte are hardly the American equivalent of Mcfly or Busted imo but I hate both Mcfly and Busted. I personally think that original GC is better than some of their stuff lately but I would hardly call them pop at the same time and emo is just a label really and imo shouldn't be brought into music terms as it's ridiculous. If I think a band's quality it's not going to be based on the fact whether they're emo or not. Edited January 30, 200718 yr by TheOrdinaryArcticBoy
January 30, 200718 yr Oh yeah they are nothing like Busted or Mcfly. Those bands are singing about teenage crushes and fit girls. GC are singing about broken homes, dealing with abondonment from their father, suicide of a friend, trying to make it and so on. Their lyrics are a lot a deeper and they've had dark songs compared to Busted and Mcfly. Different kettle of fish altogether.
January 30, 200718 yr I actually think he is rapping and I have thought this for some time, I wondered if they were going to create a full rap album but I'm glad they're not as 'The River,' is back to their usual sound. :D

I aint no 'trust fund kid' Excuse me, I was bloody well BROUGHT UP listening to bands like Sex Pistols, Clash, Exploited, Crass, UK Subs, Dead Kennedys, The Damned, etc, try actually listening to some of these bands sometime... DO NOT BLOODY WELL PRESUME TO LECTURE ME ON WHAT IS AND WHAT ISN'T PUNK!!!!!! You wanna come round to Camden Market sometime and see where the REAL Punks hange out, you'll take one look at them and you'll sh!t yourself and go home crying to mummy...... Good Charlotte are NOT a Punk Band, they are Pop Rock or "Indie", ate BEST. None of these 'pretty boy' bands like GC or MCR are remotely Punk in anyway, shape or form.... By all means, go ahead and 'like' Good Charlotte all you like but dont try and make out like they're something genuinely dangerous and rebellious (like Punk truly was...), because they aint...
January 31, 200718 yr I never once said they were punk. I'm sick of after all the time they been around people still say the same thing and they cant just allow a thread to have the band exist. I didn't say or imply they were dangerous and rebellious so dont dare suggest they're pop like Mcfly and Busted then. You actually did say that about them and thats what I responded too. And there's no need to be so rude in all your posts. I often look here and dont post, especially when like right now you're shouting down my opinion like that - you dont know how I was brought up for that fact either or what type of music I'm into. Ironic that you have a go at Jade's behaviour when you're just being agressive toward me when I gave my reasons for liking a band. Edited January 31, 200718 yr by Davidyay

If I think a band's quality it's not going to be based on the fact whether they're emo or not. Well, I'm sorry, but I really dont see much difference in how they approach music to the way Charlie Busted did tbh.... But you just go ahead and actually believe that they're somehow 'above' Busted or McFly... Like there's really anything inherently wrong with being a decent enough Guitar Pop act.... I actually have more respect for McFly and Busted cos at least they dont try to pretend to be anything other than what they are/were.... Fightstar..? Well, that's a different kettle of fish... When Pop Stars try to make out like they're above it all somehow and how they're actually really 'hard-core metal/punk'....... Well, I just gotta laugh at that.... Next, we'll be having Robbie Williams coming out and saying "Well, there's always been a Black Metal aspect to my music...."

Well, sorry, but you implied that I didn't know what I was talking about, you chose the lyrical quote for a reason presumably... so excuse me all to hell for getting a bit peed off about it if I so 'foolishly' thought that you were directing it at me.... I apologise if I was a bit rude, but what you put in your post I took as being disrespectful and I dont respond too well to that... And I didn't say GC were Pop, I said they were Pop Rock.... Get that one right at least....
January 31, 200718 yr But Mcfly and Busted are Pop and you said they're American equivalent so thats why I made that assumption. I just dont see why everything has to be so violent on here, people can argue and disagree but it doesn't have to be so rude.
January 31, 200718 yr But Mcfly and Busted are Pop and you said they're American equivalent so thats why I made that assumption. They pretty much are though..... I mean, come on... What's so essentially different..? The clothes, the image...? Tattoos and a few piercings, scowling in press shots..... The actual music, from what I've heard, is not that far removed, maybe a bit heavier riffing.... Okay, I'll be extremely generous and say that they're the US equivalent of Ash.... Happy..?
January 31, 200718 yr On my Q quiz game it said 'Manchester band Nine Inch Nails' but maybe the American Manchester? Eh, Manchester..?? What the hell is this game you're on about and why is it telling you blatant lies...? Trent Reznor is from Ohio originally, he moved out to LA, got in with long-time collaborator Charlie Clouser and a then unknown Marilyn Manson (who has appeared in several early NIN vids and operated as part of the NIN touring band..). Nine Inch Nails are basically responsible for the whole US "Alt Rock" scene and were instrumental in giving the likes of Korn an idea or ten, as well as bringing Industrial music out into the mainstream with their legendary "Pretty Hate Machine" album of 1989. It can be said that Trent was probably a huge influence on Depeche Mode's 'darker' style of the 90s too...

SCOOTER!!!! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/02/Scooterband2006.jpg well dont think i'm gonna get far on this game! well there's always the local pub quiz to win!!! (only the pop part we get full marks, normally 4th from bottom on the clever stuff   )
January 31, 200718 yr does the Q magazine DVD also say that the best cover of Depeche Mode's Stripped by a German Band is.... Scooter Oh, it's related to Q magazine is it...? Well, explains why it's spouting a load of sh!t then....
January 31, 200718 yr They pretty much are though..... I mean, come on... What's so essentially different..? The clothes, the image...? I'm sorry, I thought it was about music not what someone looks like. <_< And by music I gave reasons above about the topics they sing about. And Mcfly's songs aren't anywhere near as heavy or rocky. As a huge Ash fan for nearly 10 years I'd prefer them be compared to a band who write and produce their own stuff then...musically and lyrically they aren't similar. I don't see what the problem is here. This forum is Punk, Rock and Metal. GC are rock...if you're so pissed off with bands not belonging here then make anothr forum for it but they are rock, they're a unit like a rock band and their songs are more rock than pop.
January 31, 200718 yr I'm sorry, I thought it was about music not what someone looks like. <_< Tell GC that, not me... They're the ones cultivating a certain 'alternative' image so all the kiddies who read Kerrang!! will go ape over them. I mean, just what is the reason for the close-up of the NIN sticker on the guitar eh..? Come on, that just screams out "Hey, look at me, I'm so 'alternative', I'm into Nine Inch Nails". Well, good for you mate, so fukkin' what, you want a medal for having a few NIN records in your collection...? I hardly think a genius such as Trent Reznor needs any validation from the likes of Good Charlotte....You didn't see Trent Reznor or Marilyn Manson sporting a Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Ministry or Skinny Puppy logo in any of their vids... If you actually look at the original Punks, their looks and style was totally haphazard, much more spontaneous and they just did what they felt like doing, as opposed to the almost military precision that today's 'alternative' set seems to have in how they market themselves... And dont tell me to go off and find another Forum, this IS a METAL AND PUNK Forum, and I am a METAL/PUNK fan, you clearly are not, if anyone should 'make another forum', it's you mate.... <_<
January 31, 200718 yr You haven't actually spent enough time slagging off their actual music than their image and who you think they are. So their image is targeted a certain way - so what. When they're on my mp3 player I am not thinking about what they look like - I appreciate the songs and like the music. And I'll listen to punk songs when I want to hear punk...I just dont take GC as seriously as you do. And I dont need to make anything as I clearly dont have a problem were this topic is, you started attacking them for not being 'punk' - I hope the topic stays here and that young people on Buzzjack now think they are where punk begins and ends it's legacy...now I know it'll annoy you even more.   Edited January 31, 200718 yr by Davidyay
