Posted January 27, 200718 yr Morrissey tells Entertainment Weekly magazine that he's "sick to death" of manufactured music from the likes of 'American Idol' and Britney Spears. "'Idol' is an easy target, as [the contestants] are really just very simple children who are manipulated by truly awful grown-up people," he said. "But I certainly think Britney Spears is the devil. The way she projects herself and the fact that she is so obviously vacuous. I think it's such a shame that she became so influential to very small children." -_-
January 28, 200718 yr Author What so mean about it? I'm a Britney fan, I'm obviously not fond of those kind of comments about her :kink:
January 28, 200718 yr Well he's right really.. as much as I admit I'm a big Girls Aloud fan I just don't like it when 'artists' have no control over what they do and just do what they're told by people in the background thus being more like a 'product'.
January 28, 200718 yr Author I completely agree with Morrissey. Sorry, mate. It makes no sense, in my opinion. She never asked to be influencial to kids in the first place and she's free to do whatever she wants with her life, why should she care?
January 29, 200718 yr Author Why should she care to wear underwear? :P That rhymes  I hope you all don't misunderstand my point of view. What I mean is that she's not supposed to be our teacher, she never asked to be a role model.
January 29, 200718 yr She has children. I think any parent should act like a role model, not a complete an utter $l*t
January 29, 200718 yr I think that when she first showed up she was not prepared to become so famous. If you compare her first video and then one of her last videos you will notice a big difference, and it's not on the way she sounds. Now, she just shows her body. She might have cared about music but she doesn't anymore. For example, when she came to Portugal to a festival she did playback (I´m not sure if it was all the show or if it was only part of it, but she did pretend to play piano). Do you think this is an attitude of someone who cares about music? I pity the ones who paid to see her that day. Really, really annoying. I understand what you are saying, but what morrissey says is that he thinks "it's such a shame that she became so influential to very small children." he doesn't say it's her fault, he doesn´t say it's anybody's fault, just that it shouldn't be like this. And I agree with him. ;)
January 30, 200718 yr Morrissey is 100% correct in his assessment... Manufactured Pop music IS Satan's invention (or, as he is otherwise known, Pete Waterman...), sucking the very souls and energy out of people, turning them into unthinking, vacuous morons incapable of any critical or free thought... The Pop Music of the early/mid 80s (of which Moz/The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Teardrop Explodes, Culture Club, etc were major players) was challenging and inspiring in a way that the likes of Britney Spears could NEVER be... Just take a look at a lot of the contributors on this site, completely dead from the neck up most of 'em, it pains me to say.... The Corporations have succeeded...

The fact we actually post in this section, while 99% of this forum ignores to do so says alot, i'm sure it immunes us from such things. I find it calming that we come up the 6th most viewed OF on the site, yet we didn't take in that many posts this week. Goes to show that the rest of the site might be a put off at this moment in time for fans of Moz. It's why we need more OF's similar to this, female pop artists just don't cut it for most.
January 30, 200718 yr It's why we need more OF's similar to this, female pop artists just don't cut it for most. Well, I tried to get a Depeche Mode Forum up and running a while back, to no avail unfortunately... Hmmph... Obviously album sales in excess of 80 MILLION as well as being one of the most inspiring artists of a generation doesn't constitute a Forum for some of these eedjits.... <_<
January 30, 200718 yr When was his last released song? atleast Depeche Mode will be remembered as musical legends! unlike Darius who will go down for the unfamous Britney Spears impersonation
January 30, 200718 yr Author I'm sorry to disagree with you all. I'm not so complicated when it comes to music... I can like Britney and Stratovarious at the same time. I don't look for them to set the example, if I enjoy their songs, it's ok with me.
