September 15Sep 15 Someone once told me that The Wombats were Gen Z's second-favourite 2000s guitar band after the Arctic Monkeys, is this true? Would explain how they've maintained so much Radio 1 support over the years and seen so many other guitar bands come and go.

Not many of them have stayed relevant with newer material, but The Wombats definitely have. It was their 2018 album with Turn that really helped.I’d probably put The Killers above them though!The Kooks, Kaiser Chiefs & TDCC all play arenas still too, and command high slots at festivals. But all thanks to their old music. Kasabian too, although their releases up to 2017 are still pretty well known.

They'll A-list a new song by an old band for weeks then never play it again so it never really gets into the popular consciousness unless you're a huge fan. Once it's off the playlist it might as well have never existed. The only recurrents they play from the past 5-10 years are proper hits that are all over Radio 1 anyway. At least Radio 1 stand by their A-list songs!Radio 2 is the most popular station but if you asked 99% of people which Kaiser Chiefs songs they know they would name the ones from their Radio 1 days even though Radio 2 promote each of their albums heavily even when they're called stupid things like 'Duck'. September 15Sep 15 No matter what they do, if they do it, it surely won't possibly be any worse than those 2016 Stone Roses singles. That is the bar to beat. In fact every recording artist should just apply that standard before they get into the studio and at least they'll know they've come out with something of value even if it's only marginally better. The only times they've playlisted Muse and Foos for instance since they were booted off R1 have been with pretty quiet mid-tempo stuff.
