Radio 1 Playlist (14/08/26): The ravers have come to dance dance dance!
Feels like total bollox especially in this day and age when they share so much new music with Radio 2. I'll always love new music (and fun content, a lot of the stuff the presenters talk about like going on holiday, being stuck in traffic jams, going to gigs, watching telly etc isn't really age-specific anyway) and R1 will always be the best source for it. It won't be long until S+D are over 30 too. I find them very relatable at 43! They probably need to stop saying 'Uncle Greg' though. If I remember rightly, Greg talks about how much he hates the ageism/target audience thing in his book!

Radio 1 Playlist (21/08/26): There's a good girl trapped in Marianne
This tune really punished me.

Radio 1 Playlist (21/08/26): There's a good girl trapped in Marianne
Poor MadgeKylie. They have shown both a lot of previously unforeseen love over recent years considering their (irrelevant) advancing ages and the enormous gaps before they were last playlisted as lead artists so I thought this would get more spins. Am I right in thinking that went 8-OUT? I thought they released more physicals? Anyway, think someone said Bring Your Love had become a R1 recurrent so I am having a bit of that. It was A-listed after all! Anyway my late summer/autumn '26 playlist (basically Alternative Now 126) is filling up fast already and it's only August 22nd, I reckon this could be a strong one, tonnes of great dance stuff in particular on the R1 playlist right now.

Radio 1 Playlist (14/08/26): The ravers have come to dance dance dance!
People do have a lot of trouble telling the difference between official and promo/buzz singles these days! Wikipedia makes matters worse as anyone can edit it. If it wasn't on the radio lots of times and wasn't promoted heavily, chances are it wasn't a real bloody single! I admit that it can get confusing when Crapital/Jack Saunders play things that were clearly meant to be buzz tracks or when mid-2020s Now That's What I Call Music put Lola Young/Lewis Capaldi album/EP tracks on their compilations to make their 50p budget go further.

Radio 1 Playlist (14/08/26): The ravers have come to dance dance dance!
MadgeKylie coming on Friday, mark my words. Especially if it's popping up on official hits playlists. It fits Radio 1 perfectly and I think since Kate Bush they are much more open to veteran acts as long as the tune doesn't stand out like a sore fecking thumb on the station. R1 isn't that much of a "youth" station listener-wise in 2026 and it doesn't feel like they even pretend it is anymore, I frequently hear voice notes on there from people who say they're on their way to pick up their grandkids etc so God knows where that 15-29 nonsense fits into this. That age range was put in place at a time when pop culture worked completely differently and when there was a clear generational gap when it came to music. My late mother was 30 in 1988 and called house music (which she hated) "bang bang bang" music, think the only new albums she bought after that were by Westlife. Most of the dance songs I hear on Radio 1 and see on the charts now sound like they could have easily come out in 1995. I'm 43 and just streamed three hours of current club tunes! People who bought Rhythm Is A Dancer when they were 15/16 are 49/50 now! Nowadays it doesn't feel like there is very much at all on the Radio 1 playlist which would scare off your average 50-year-old. I mean, dance doesn't really change does it? Do pop, indie and metal change much really? I'll concede that rap has a new subgenre every now and then but that seems very quiet right now. A lot of their music policy is about current euphoric uptempo anthems and I believe Love Sensation ticks all those boxes! Love Sensation could easily be by a a pair of 25 year olds regardless of their actual ages and that's what it's all about. You can be as old as you want as long as your music sounds youthful (and ironically a lot of the acoustic/country stuff by twentysomethings that's getting on like Boston doesn't sound very youthful or vibrant to me at all but oh well, if that's what the cool kids are into they gotta reflect that). Anyway, rant over. There was a point there somewhere, I promise.

HiyaLuv's Stormers Chart 14.8.26
Well, when I have my 'fake Radio 1' Spotify sessions I kind of use their playlist as a foundation (whilst also including the best R2/6 songs, resurgent ancient viral tunes and any other "specialist/nighttime R1" bangers that have found their way onto my radar) and the Slayyyter tune fell off their playlist a few weeks ago so guessing that caused the epic drop, especially with my chart being based on the past 30 days of streams! Generally, songs need about 6 or 7 streams over 30 days to get in my Top 40 and maybe 13-15 to get to #1 but it can fluctuate. Hope you're well!

Friday Chart Predictions
Kylie & Madge at #8 in 2026? I am having a bit of that. 7-year-old 1990 me is very happy, and 43-year-old 2026 me feels even better! Now hoping it will be added to a load of hits playlists and stay on the chart for a decent while!

Alyssa Grace - bloodstream
Her actual voice sounds like it wouldn't be that bad if she toned things down a bit but her delivery on this song is like a tortured yodeller, dreading hearing this on the radio for weeks if not months on end.

Definitely, they've played it 189 times since 2017 according to these stats! So basically completely ignoring the fact they snubbed it back in the day and giving it official R1 Anthem status!

13 weeks on the Top 75 so far even if it never went Top 40, I'll put that down as a hit. Sometimes it's a marathon, not a sprint these days!

Can't be a recurrent if it was never playlisted in the first place! Not seeing it on the playlist is making my teeth itch but that's just how my spicy brain works. 22 plays in the past week! Anyway I've put it in the A-list section of my Spotify version of the R1 Playlist to reflect its real-world amount of airtime.

Friday Chart Predictions
I did not mean to be rude but the repetition was rapidly driving me totally insane, the last thing I would want to come across as is a bully though, I think there is a good reason why he is like that and I think this place wouldn't quite be the same without the afore-mentioned iconic Buzzjack member that keeps us all talking, he is part of the furniture so I guess I will just take a deep breath and ignore anything that gets right on my last nerve in future! Apologies to all concerned, off for a lie-down until I'm about 70 years old (2053 by the way).
