12 - Nelly Furtado - Maneater

Her first UK number 1, the album 'Loose' has given Nelly three consecutive top five hits in 2006, of which one of them is still to chart, stay here to find out which. Here's a live performance of Maneater from TOTP, just as a change!! All the video versions were 5 minutes long(!!)

And finally, just missing out on this years top ten are............

11 - Girls Aloud - Something Kinda Ooooh

So thats it for the Girls, both hits chart outside the top 10. Also, this was the first British single to chart in the top 5 on downloads only, an achievement that was not celebrated enough, but only peaked at number 3. Enjoy!!

Until then, enjoy 20 -11 and i'll see you all on the other side of 7pm!!!!

Also feel free to make your predictions, who will be my numbe rone of 2006. Will it be:

Snow Patrol

Emma Bunton

or

Sugababes

Be back at 7pm!!!!

I haven't seen your charts, so I can't really make an educated guess. But I'll take a stab in the dark and say Snow Patrol is your #1 B)

Right here goes, my top 10 singles of 2006.

The top 10 consists of:

1: number 1 track

9: top tenners

1: only got into the top 20

Some clues:

One of the two golden oldies gets 'dizzy' and one has a conection to ladies underwear, if you believe the stories!! (its a lame clue when you see who these artists are)

An ode to arsonists!!

A double of entries from one of these years international nominees for this years Brits!!

And theres evil down under!!

Lets Get Started then............

I like all your Top20 so far.Escpeilaly The Source feat. Candi Staton - You Got The Love. I really love that record but never got into it until it was leaveing the charts.

Lets kick of the top 10 at 10 with first of two acts to have two tracks in the 10 this year:

10 - Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars

This was the song that got everyone talking about the Patrol, 2006 was a mammoth year for the band.

A massive hit here, peaking at 6, only to re-enter the chart at the start of the year due to the new chart rules at number 9, it also broke the US top 10 too. I have put up the US video because it was a shorter version!!

This was the second track to be taken from their 1.5 million selling album, 'Eyes Open', my second favourite album of 2006, and now becomes the band's biggest UK hit to date!!

Now, time for something a little unusual, even for me:

9 - Gnarls Barkley - Smiley Faces

This was the original, and best version, of the band's second UK release from 'St Elsewhere' and got to number 10 in July.

More from the band later, where will 'Crazy' chart????

  • Author

Well, don't have to wait much longer, because at 8.....

8 - Gnarls Barkley - Crazy

This track got picked up by Radio 1 in November 2005 before exploding onto the scene as one of the freshest sounding tracks on the radio.

In March 2006, the track became a massive hit and went on break records as the first track to chart at number 1 based solely on download sales. It also held on at the top for an unprecedented 9 weeks, before being toppled thanks to Sandi Thom in May.

After 11 weeks the track was deleted, but re-entered the chart at number 30 due the new chart rules. And it still sounds great, even though radio killed the magic a little!!!!

So far this could be my Top20. Smiley Faces was better then Crazy IMO.

Im glad you like it but i found it so difficult to chose which one i prefered because they ar eboth amazing songs!! :yahoo:

Right, the top ten continues (and no its not Gnarls Barkley!!)

7 - Sugababes - Easy

This was the group's first 'proper' single to feature new member Amelle.

'Easy' their 17th top 40 single, a 12th top 10, from their greatest hits which came 3rd in my albums of 2006.

2007 could well see them scoring their 5th UK number 1 when they team up with Girls Aloud for the official Comic Relief single, 'Walk This Way', the Aerosmith song!!, whixh is already tipped to sell over 250,000 copies.

It's due for release in March.

The top 5 draws closer, but what misses out at......

6 - Nelly Furtado - All Good Things (Come To An End)

Co-written with Coldplay's Chris Martin, thats the last we hear from Nelly in my chart. Three singles charted in the UK charts all in the top 5 and the next single 'Say It Right' could do the same, maybe a little lower but 2006 was an amazing year for Ms Furtado.

The CD single features Nelly and her cover of Gnarls Barklye's 'Crazy', which she performed in the Live Lounge for Jo Whiley, and its amazing, such a briliant cover.

'All Good Things' becomes Nelly's highest appearence in my chart, with, in my opinion, the best track of her career!!

The top 5 now, my favourite singles of 2006, still to hear from Rogue Traders with their second track, but next, it's one of the legends of music

5 - Chicane featuring Tom Jones - Stoned In Love

When I first heard this track, I had no idea it was the legend, Tom Jones, himself. This dance track peaked at number 7 (6 places far too low I feel) and became one of my favourite dance singles of the year.

It was Tom's first top ten hit since the 'Reload' era, following two disastrous solo attempts at a comeback with 'International' peaking at 31 in 2002 and 'Black Betty' in 2003 which failed to chart.

The video is funny too, I want a Tom Jones mask now!!

Just four more tracks to go and then thats 2006 over and done with.

Next, another 'oldie' makes their debut at 4:

4 - Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)

The CBB effect hepled both Preston and Pete Burns return to the UK charts in style at the start of 2006. This is the third time this track entered the chart.

In 1985, it reached number 1 after being ou tfor almost three months; it became the first chart topper for Stock, Aitken and Waterman. Then in 2003 it was re-released and got to 23.

The original re-entered the top 5 at 5 last January, so its only fitting i embed the original, very camp video!!

Don't think Jo O'Meara will follow in those successful footsteps mind......

Three songs left to chart, but missing out this year and settling for third place its......

3 - Rogue Traders - Voodoo Child

So, they've got the number one album, however, unlike Hard-Fi last year, couldn't do the double on my chart.

This song was the 28th best selling single of 2006, peaking at number 3 in July. They are due to release their next track in March, 'Way To Go!' so expect them to appear in next years chart!!!!
