25th October 2026

It's 2 weeks on top for Jungle as they grab a 6th week in total this year at number one, and the 60's classic Jimmy Mack climbs to 2 for Martha & The Vandellas, long overdue a chart entry for one I really liked as a kid that has never charted before. Nickelback go top 10 for the first time in 20 years, though Chad Kroeger has done it with The Lottery Winners in the last 2 years, and Nickelback debut at 89 with another good single Make Me Love You. Lil Nas X gets his first ever top 10 with Hey Ya, oops I mean World's Greatest.

The highst new entry is from a classic 70's UK flop that should have charted in 1975, Calypso featured in a streaming series this week, and is sort of topical as it was an ode to marine conservationist Jacques Cousteau's boat in the week David Attenborough's Blue Planet III is due. New in at 16, having topped my charts as an oldie in 2004 for John Denver. New at 59 there's an unexpected duet from Fontaines D.C. and ROSALIA, fresh from topping my chart earlier in the year with Reliquia, and Fontaines having last charted with top 10 Starburster. It's a very Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood-ish dark ballad. Where Is Gone, with no question mark.

Morten Harket, of a-ha, hasn't had a solo charter since 2012, having first done it in the 90's, and is now back with a moody ballad If I Ever See Your Face Again at 82, giving him a chart span of 41 years including a-ha. Texas have been absent for 3 years, returning with the very nice Another Way To Cry at 87 for 37 years of charting, Albin Lee Meldau is back with a 2nd Swedish chart entry on Lonely By Another Name sounding like an Americana track, while Cyndi's 1984 ballad classic gets a revamp, this time from CYRIL and with added Tones And I at 90 for a 2nd time-round for Ms Lauper on Time After Time. That leaves TLC back with No Scrubs 30 years on, and Miley Cyrus getting a 3rd chart hit at the moment, Let's Get married at 100.

Hi John,

Jungle seems to be your favourite act of the year - I quite like them too - their album was very good. Nickelback was never band - the new Texas song is quite good. A pity that Unethical already dropped out.

Hi John. Hope you've had a good couple of weeks. Apologies for not commenting last week. I was...erm....hungover 😂 I went out with a mate from work and managed to pull one of his mates - a 24 year old 6"5 "straight" bloke. I didn't go through with it in the end - 24 is a bit too young for me 😂 but it's still nice to know I've still got it 🤣 With that boasting out of the way, here's my faves:
