January 29, 200718 yr If i ever go vegetarian it's because of the song "Meat is Murder" it really makes me feel bad that I eat meat, that's probably why i don't listen to it that often. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d9/molho_suave/morrissey-vegetariano.jpg
March 21, 200718 yr Very controversial, but at least he has the bottle to air such views. I choose to eat meat, only because I think it's natural and contributes to a balanced diet. As a an example of how important meat is - I give blood, and the process of regenerating blood is a lot slower in vegetarians. I've seen some of my vegetarian workmates (who also give) suffer the rest of the day, or even week, because their iron levels are so depleted and they cannot regenerate it quickly. I do say to them - what if you had a fatal injury, and you are bleeding to death - couldn't this be the difference between life and death? I wonder what Morrissey would say to that? However, if it were for the reasons cited by Morrissey alone, I would certainly skip meat - and I might add that meat makes up less than 10%, maybe under 5%, of my diet.
March 22, 200718 yr While I agree with his views on the meat industry itself and how it conducts its affairs, to say that eating meat is like child abuse is utter nonsense... He has a rather over-glamourised view of the animal world... Animals are NOT like children, what are his opinions of lions who tear apart a gazelle or a zebra for sustenance.. Is this 'murder' as well..? He is correct when he says "death for no reason is murder", but this is not for 'no reason', animals such as pigs, sheep, cows, chickens are reared specifically for us to eat... As much as I admire his art and his music, I simply cannot agree with him on this... Good on him for taking a stand, but he's going way too far with it.. Target the McDonalds', the KFCs, the Burger Kings, the Bernard Matthews', the processed meat factories, the battery farms, the farmers who treat their livestock cruelly and with utter inhumanity, promote organic and free-range farming, but the facts are, we are OMNIVORES and we need protein in our diets....

I wouldnt because I'm a vegetarian and have had anaemia, so it wouldn't really be wise for me to do it.

Lions just have to eat what they can get. Not like us, who have so much choice of what we eat...
March 22, 200718 yr They shouldn't give blood. I wouldnt because I'm a vegetarian and have had anaemia, so it wouldn't really be wise for me to do it. And have you considered what might happen if you were in a fatal accident, and suffered serious blood loss? Doesn't it concern you at all? I know it's an extreme example, but it makes you think...
March 23, 200718 yr Lions just have to eat what they can get. Not like us, who have so much choice of what we eat... Yes, that's it in a nutshell Lucy... 'Choice'.... I should have the choice of whether I eat meat or not without having some vegan shove his or her rather presumptious opinions down my throat... And you simply cannot get round the physiological fact that the best source of protein is meat, whether it be chicken, beef, pork, fish or whatever... Quorn and tofu is all very well and good as a supplemental, but to completely excise meat from your diet is rather foolish IMO, at the end of the day, we humans are OMNIVORES, we are not natural vegetarians like cows or some species of monkey... Just about every vegetarian I know eats fish or seafood at least once a week to keep their diet balanced.... And while we are on the subject of cruelty, I am p***-sick of these fukkin' self-righteous vegetarians who bang on about animal welfare and then they go on to feed their cats and dogs (both species being natural CARNIVORES btw) a vegetarian diet....  The height of stupidity, and surely a form of cruelty as well.... And how does one square having these vegetarian principles on the one hand, and on the other wearing leather shoes and coats.....?
March 23, 200718 yr Author I thought it was weird that Rourke used to wear a sheepskin coat while with Moz :o
March 23, 200718 yr I thought it was weird that Rourke used to wear a sheepskin coat while with Moz :o I would imagine that being one of the things they fell out over...

You have hit the nail on the head with post, for which I'm in total agreement.

And how does one square having these vegetarian principles on the one hand, and on the other wearing leather shoes and coats.....? These people you know are NOT vegetarians. We dont eat anything living. They can easily get omega 3 from Alpro's products, which is where I get mine from. I hate when people eat fish yet claim they are vegetarian.

March 25, 200718 yr I don't understand what you're trying to say. What I meant was that vegetarians can't normally give blood because the iron levels in their blood is too low, and they can't regenerate blood cells quickly. If a vegetarian had a fatal accident, and suffered serious blood loss, they would theoretically have less chance of survival than someone who did eat meat

March 30, 200718 yr It's not just about the Omega 3, it's about the protein and iron as well... Spinach is a good source of iron, peanuts/peanut butter has protein in it, so do beans, eggs... Quorn's grill steak things have added protein... There's no excuse.
