March 24, 200718 yr This isn't generally the style of music i listen to but the songs grow on me, i've heard a lot of music of this style through the Gran Theft Auto games.
April 3, 200718 yr NUMBER 50 - OZZY OSBOURNE - Mr CROWLEY Ahhhh, yes, Ozzy..... The very epitome of Metal in so many ways... The tales of this guy's exploits are absolutely legion... and it really has to be stressed that before all this "Osbournes" c**p, this guy was one of the coolest, most hard-core motherfukkers on the face of ther earth... People who judge Ozzy simply on that bloody awful programme are fukkin ignorant fools who know sod all about music, simple as; and I am fukkin' sick of even hearing about his b**ch of a wife and those bloody awful kids of his, whom, frankly, should have been drowned at sodding BIRTH!!!!! <_< <_< If he is a joke now, it is because he has been turned into one by the media.... His material with Black Sabbath and his early solo material are the absolute DOG'S BOLLOCKS and "Mr Crowley" would be a bloody great song in any universe... Later, post-90s solo stuff (anything after "No More Tears" SUCKS!!!!!) and the absolute dreck he's doing these days simply tarnish his reputation... This is it, the definitive Ozzy, with Randy Rhodes, one of the greatest guitarists of his generation (although Zakk Wylde is pretty damned good too....), forget all the c**p, forget the lousy TV show, and judge him on his music ffs..... XSnj8X1zAZI (and, oh my, hasn't young Matthew Bellamy rather ripped off this tune just a tad.....) Ozzy! My mum use to love him back in the day, she has some of his songs which I've also listened to. ^_^ I hate it though how alot of people think he's some sort of "joke" with the whole ozbournes and that, it's sad really -_-
April 4, 200718 yr i have to say that Mr Crowley is a f***in' ace tune.. fell in love with it as soon as i heard it, that guitar solo at the end i pure bliss! Shame Randy had to try and give Ozzy a scare by flying his plane over Ozzy's tour bus, and getting too close and crashing... killing him and a few of the tour crew.
April 4, 200718 yr Author Shame Randy had to try and give Ozzy a scare by flying his plane over Ozzy's tour bus, and getting too close and crashing... killing him and a few of the tour crew. Silly sod.... <_< A truly great guitarist, but so incredibly stupid....
April 4, 200718 yr Silly sod.... <_< A truly great guitarist, but so incredibly stupid.... i find it rather funny in a sick way. You got the possibilty of being the best guitarist on the planet, earning millions and having loads of women... but you blow it all on a stupid prank.
April 11, 200718 yr NUMBER 59 - HEART - ALONE Yep, a wee bit more 80s Cheese here.... But this was seriously classy and I genuinely still love this tune.... This is the greatest 80s Big Hair Rock Chick Ballad EVER!!!! You can stick Bonnie Tyler "Total Eclipse" up your ARSE... Horrid bloody wonky-faced, split-ends caterwauling Welsh bint..... Horrid.... The Wilson sisters were an altogether more class act than Tyler, and Ann Wilson's vocal range could easily outstrip Tyler's anyday.... As far as I'm concerned, however (and this is probably an even more important point..) there is a direct link between Heart and a lot of these female-fronted Symphonic/Gothic Metal bands.... Nightwish, Within Temptation, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, et al, have all borrowed something or other from Heart (Amy Lee more than the others I reckon..), and I reckon it's pretty plain to see and hear... Ugan1-TCIUA Fukk off yer bast*rd, I like 'Total Eclipse of the heart'. I also like this one, I'm a sucker for 80's cheesy power ballads. Not heard that much by testament I don't think, I'll have to give 'em a listen. Oh I love Alice Cooper, brill song... Edited April 11, 200718 yr by Daylight Dancer
April 11, 200718 yr I'm a sucker for 80's cheesy power ballads. Not heard that much by testament I don't think, I'll have to give 'em a listen. oh dear Clare.. cheesy power ballads are awful :( i'll let you borrow some Testamnet if you want... it will help you with your power ballads problem :)
April 11, 200718 yr NUMBER 54 - GUNS N ROSES - IT'S SO EASY It's easy for us in 2007 and judge Guns N Roses as being an absolute joke, Axl Rose himself makes this so easy for us to do... If ever there was an example of a Rock Star totally destroying their own band, then this is it... G N R were Axl, Izzy, Duff, Steve and the legendary Slash, only one of those is still in the band today... But when "Appetite For Destruction" came out in 1988, it really did breathe some new life into the bloated LA Metal scene which was already beginning to collapse under the weight of big hair... Axl and Co came along with a dirty, sleazy sounding Hard Rock music which recalled the likes of New York Dolls and had more than a touch of British Punk Rock about it to boot, and "Appetite..." is still an album that should grace any Metallers collection.. "It's So Easy" is the perfect encapsulation of what G N R were all about (and yes, it really IS Axl singing, he's just using the lower end of his register as opposed to sounding like a screech owl... ), "Sweet Child O Mine" may have been the song that got them famous, but this was their first single and it is far more representative of the "Appetite..." album as a whole, "Sweet Child.." actually sticks out like a sore thumb when you listen to it, the rest of the album is total Sleaze Rock.... Then, unfortunately, G N R became the bloated Corporate scum that they were originally different from, oh dear.... Then accusations of racism and homophobia began to surface - not exactly without foundation, as anyone who's ever listened to that awful song "One In A Million" can attest, and it just got worse from there, internal band strifes, Axl's growing erratic and unreasonable behaviour, and "Use Your Illusion", two quite dreadful c**k Rock albums which were totally out of step with the changing times in the early 90s, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Stone Roses, etc came along and really saved us all from the further growing train wreck that was G N R... Slash and Duff formed Velvet Revolver a while back and never looked back... Axl continues to embarrass himself by trying to resurrect the G N R glory days, and "Chinese Democracy" STILL hasn't actually seen the light of day..... Better to remember them like this really, five young men who only wanted to play the music.... 7Poi9zDM1wY Can I just say that GNR was never seen as a joke, everyone seen Axl as the joke.
April 11, 200718 yr oh dear Clare.. cheesy power ballads are awful :( i'll let you borrow some Testamnet if you want... it will help you with your power ballads problem :) Sod off they're brill :P I own loads. If you do don't worry I'm not Liam I don't forget and I do give stuff back. :)
April 11, 200718 yr NUMBER 53 - TRISTANIA - EQUILIBRIUM Oooooh, this is so gorgeously Gothic this one.... I love the contrasting vocals, the male vocals, very deep (but not growly, which a lot of Gothic Metal does) complementing the fragile beauty of Vibeke Steine's Operatic register... Tristania are a bit different to most of these other Gothic Metal bands, the link to 80s Goth music is so much more pronounced with them when they do tracks like this.. Tristania are Norwegian, and while Norway is well known for its Black Metal bands, what seems to get forgotten are the more melodic, tuneful Metal bands like Tristania and Theatre of Tragedy... TMalhCS_lkI I love bands like this they remind me of Sisters, I love Sisters they better be in here!
April 11, 200718 yr NUMBER 51 - JACK OFF JILL - MY CAT In case you ever wondered who that cool chick Royston Poisoner had in her old sig was, it is none other than Jack off Jill frontwoman Jessicka..... JoJ benefitted from an association with Marilyn Manson, he produced much of their early material from the early 90s up until their first album "Sexless, Demons and Scars" in 1998, but this is not to say JoJ were Manson's little 'pet' band, far from it, they had an absolutely definitive sound of their own, whereas Manson was more concerned with gluing Metal, Industrial and Glam together, JoJ were much more raw and organic, more Punk and 'alternative', and yes, a bit 'Emo' (when 'Emo' wasn't the dirty word it is these days....) and a lot less contrived in how they approached their music and image than Manson, MCR and others are... Where JoJ share a common ground with Manson is in their desire to strip back the false veneer of America and expose the hypocrisy that lies underneath... Of course this is more obvious in songs like "American Made" and "Confederate Fag" than in this one.... They did two very good albums, the aforementioned "Sexless, Demons and Scars" (which this song is on) and "Clear Hearts, Grey Flowers", which I personally believe to be the stronger album, they really stretched themselves out musically on this and if it was an indication of where they were heading, it's a damn shame they split up.. A compilation of early material from '92-'97 came out called "Humid Teenage Mediocrity", the stuff which was recorded by Manson, it has lots of interesting demos, rare tracks and early versions of songs which would end up on the debut album... Jessicka would later form the pretty amazing Scarling, they sound nothing at all like JoJ, a very cool modern Alternative Rock band with shades of bands like My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth about them... r6-ZccfRrIo I've never taken to this band, and I doubt I ever will.
April 11, 200718 yr Sod off they're brill :P I own loads. If you do don't worry I'm not Liam I don't forget and I do give stuff back. :) noooooooo... Testament do some Ballads that $h!t on that stuff ^_^ and i've never let Liam borrow anything so i wouldn't know, but yeah your free to borrow stuff.
April 11, 200718 yr NUMBER 48 - MOONSPELL - FINISTERRA (THE END OF THE WORLD) Moonspell are a Portuguese band.... As their vocalist Fernando Ribiero puts it "About 95% of the music produced in Portugal is commercial Dance and Euro Pop, we are very unusual". Ribiero in various interviews has painted a picture of an incredibly stultifying, bland and frankly nightmarish contemporary musical scene in his native country.. This and the fact that the Portuguese Catholic Church has branded Moonspell and other Portuguese Metal as "Satanists" as well (and just when you'd thought we'd actually gotten beyond all that kind of bullsh!t....).. So, you can understand why they sound a mite hacked off... Also, the fact that Moonspell have been doing this whole Gothic/Metal hybrid for about 15 years now as well and not seeing much in the way of international success, while the sweet 'girly goth' Rock bands like Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Evanescence and Within Temptation race ahead of them (I suppose if Moonspell had a gorgeous girl fronting them, they'd sell more records..), well, that's another reason for them sounding hacked off... They dont usually sound as angry as this, the 'Death/Doom Metal' element is new and has come in with the "Memorial" album of 2006, and, y'know, I kinda like it to be honest, most other bands would take the easy option and cultivate a more mainstream sound, Moonspell have gone totally in the opposite direction, with a much more extreme, confrontational sound... I certainly loved their more melodic, gothic side, but there's a real urgency and a sense of raw anger to their new material, the injustice of being ignored while others get the attention has reinvigorated them.... fF85-dIllPU I have one of their albums my god I've never played it  Actually I tell a lie I got to track 2, what I was busy... <_<
April 11, 200718 yr noooooooo... Testament do some Ballads that $h!t on that stuff ^_^ and i've never let Liam borrow anything so i wouldn't know, but yeah your free to borrow stuff. Ahhh okay, I get you now. I'll give them a listen, I've not bought a CD for ages really need to update my collection.
April 11, 200718 yr NUMBER 46 - ARCH ENEMY - WE WILL RISE And she is seriously HOT as well..... There's just something I love about the way this girl sweats.... *ahem*, okay, I'll, erm, stop now.... Angela Gossow - SHE IS WOMAN, HEAR HER RRRRRRRROOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRRR!!!!!! You know I don't agree with you here Scott, we normally agree on women but you're letting your standards slip mate.
April 11, 200718 yr NUMBER 45 - ALICE IN CHAINS - WOULD The history of this band seriously reads like an open wound... Vocalist Layne Stayley battled a serious heroin addiction, this was a battle he would eventually lose and he died some years ago from an overdose.. The tragedy is, is that Stayley looked as though he was actually winning the battle.. Stayley wrote continually with regards to his addiction, making us both understand what went through a user's mind while scaring us sh!tless at the sheer hopelessness and despair of it all... I have never ever wanted to try heroin, and I reckon it was Alice In Chains that put me off even thinking about it the most. People say that Stayley glamourised heroin, what utter bullsh!t, clearly these people dont listen to what is being said in songs like "Junkhead" or "Godsmack"... Alice In Chains were probably the most gothic of the Grunge/Seattle generation of bands, they came from a much darker place than Nirvana or Pearl Jam.. "Would" is really their anthem and I reckon is a much better song than "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or "Alive"... i3FnQMSD4Zg Oh I do have to agree here, while I wasn't going to just go 'oh good song blah blah', I thought this one needed repying to. I can't really add to what you've said other than agree, great band. Comparison between Nirvana and AIC can defo see the better band and I'm hoping others do.
April 11, 200718 yr Doubt you'll read my posts above but have to say great list, where is the rest? :) Some tunes I really love in that list, not repled to everyone but made comments here and there, you'll prob know who I'm going to love anyway.
