Travis talk to 6 Music

Fran on the new album

01 Feb 07 - Fran Healy from Travis revealed exclusively to 6 Music details about the new album this afternoon.

In a phone call on Steve Lamacq’s show Fran discussed how they put the songs together and also announced the actual title live on air.

The band were over in New York doing a photo shoot for the next instalment The Boy With No Name and Fran was excited that after three years from their last outing 12 Memories they were back in what he described as true Travis style:

“We’ve gone back to what we do best, and that is what is from the heart, Dougie put’s it best by saying it is ‘guarded optimism’.â€

Fran also declared that there was a palpable excitement within the Travis camp and a genuine enthusiasm for a return to the road. That return will also involve a slot at the Coachella Festival later in the year and a run of gigs which will be announced soon.

Fans can also look forward to the release of the first single – Closer is out on 23 April, according to Fran this was picked out as the lead song because, “it just bred the rest of the album.â€

Whilst Travis took the decision to record the album themselves they turned to long time collaborator Nigel Godrich to look after additional production on several of the tracks. “We trust Nigel and fear himâ€, says Dougie Payne. ‘If Nigel doesn’t think something is any good he’ll say .â€

“This album has all the facets of us, and some new onesâ€, Healy explains. “It’s rocky and then it’s pop and sweet too. After a time of feeling stuck we feel we can do anything. We’ve come through the dark places and it feels like we’ve found our muse once moreâ€.

The Boy With No Name is out on 7 May 2007.

Are any of you looking forward to a new Travis album?

Yes I'll probably buy a new Travis album.Loved all their last three, including 12 memories, which is very underrated imo.
I'm not actually very interested in a return from Travis seeing as they remind me of Coldplay too much who I find boring, however Travis have had some slightly better singles than Coldplay in the past imo.
