Closing in on the tragic Air Disaster of 1958, in which Manchester United lost, one of, if not, the most talented football team of players this country has ever seen.
With Duncan Edwards, 21 caps for his country at the age of just 21, a future great, taken too soon.

Here is Morrisseys tribute to the boys;

Left-back Duncan Edwards, a tall and powerful 21 year old who had already gathered 21 England caps, made it through the crash and struggled for two weeks in a Munich hospital. He slipped in and out of consciousness. On the 20th of February he turned to United’s assistant coach Jimmy Murphy who was by his side. “What time's kick-off against Wolves on Saturday?" he asked. "Two thirty as usual," said Murphy. Edwards simply whispered "Get stuck in, lads," then closed his eyes for the final time.

was a tragic day :( Remember seeing things on a stadium tour about 12 odd years ago.

R.I.P.

A Very sad day for Football.

All true Liverpool FC supporters would share those sentiments.

Unquestionably, if Duncan Edwards had survived & stayed free of injury then he would have been captain of the England World Cup Squad of 1966 (if not in 1962 as well), and would have gone on to be our answer to "The Kaiser Chief" Franz Beckenbauer in the defensive midfield role that Duncan Edwards played for United, except 6ft 5inches tall Duncan had a powerful shot, could dribble with the ball, a great head, could tackle and a huge work rate.

In the aftermath of this disaster Manchester United lost 8 of their players and another two had to retire, while two others were ruled out through injury until the following season.

As well as Edwards they lost their captain Roger Byrne who played 33 times for England at left-back; their left-winger & England international Dave Pegg; their centre forward Tommy Taylor who had scored 16 goals in 19 internationals for England, those players were sorely missed by England in the 1958 World Cup.

United also lost two other international players: Mark Jones (Wales) & William Whelan (Republic of Ireland) & Northern Ireland's captain Danny Blanchflower was out injured until the following season.

It also reminds me of another reason (a certain vile song their fans sung) why I want to see Leeds United get relegated this season and go out of business.

R.I.P

Its not just Leeds utd fans that sing about Munich though , its Liverpool Fans as well. Man U fans also have disgusting chants about Hillsborough as well :cry: So both sets of fans are equally guilty IMHO

Both of those is sickening tbh. They're both as bad as each other. I'm a Liverpool and no way do I condem Liverpool fans singing sick chants about the Munich but the same goes for Man Utd fans with Hillsbrough as well. The fans that do this are only a small minority though, but they give their fans in general a bad name. -_-

I think people who chant things about this day really do need help seeing as many people lost their lives in this and it must have been very distressing for friends, families and supporters.
