February 7, 200718 yr Its no different to the majority of today's Labour party though, most of them in the cabinet were educated at top private schools and are anything but working class, times have changed now Politics overides class though, I spent my youth on a council estate and a pretty rough one too but have never voted anything other than tory and don't consider myself a class traitor or forgetting where I come from I simply felt that the free market and capitalism is the way forward regardless of class. You say that Maggie was trying to destroy the working class but it was the working class that won her 3 elections, traditional working class areas such as Essex were a sea of blue as were areas like the Black Country and so on those areas are what got her into power 3 times not traditional tory strongholds like Westminster, Henley on Thames and so on, the likes of Dagenham and Basildon did . The working class loved Maggie. Maggie did plenty for the working class, she created the Princes Trust in collaboration with Charles that enabled disadvantaged youngsters to set up businesses instead of stealing cars, she allowed people in council houses to buy their own properties and get a foot on the ladder, she created enterprise agencies in disadvantaged areas, she increased state benefits a lot, she cut taxes for everybody, yes if I went to a few mining communities and said Maggie was good I would not get out of there alive but on the whole the working class did well out of Maggie thats why the likes of "Essex man" kept voting her in Yeah, Essex, the South East of England... She fukked up the rest of the bloody country though.... <_< And by the way, the Tories never had a majority of seats in the Commons at any stage really, the "First Past The Post" system kept them in office, otherwise under Proportional Rep you would've had Hung Parliaments and Coalition Govts.... The Working Classes on the whole did NOT love Maggie, only the ones in the South East who benefitted from her policies (and they were the ONLY ones mate, for the majority of us born North of Watford, she utterly SHAT on us).... Go North of Watford and say "I love Maggie".... Tell me if you get back without any bruises, broken bones, smashed teeth, etc.....
