Robbie Williams goes into rehab...on his birthday

13/02/07

SINGER Robbie Williams has been admitted into rehab for drug addiction.

The former Take That star, who is 33 today, has entered a clinic in the US.

His spokeswoman Bryony Watts confirmed: “Robbie Williams has today been admitted into a treatment centre in America for his dependency on prescription drugs.

“There will be no further comment on this matter.â€

It comes just hours after the star told friends he wanted to celebrate today's birthday on his own.

His closest aides and management team are all on holiday at the moment as Robbie takes a break from work.

And before being admitted into rehab the star had told pals not to bother calling round at his £5 million Los Angeles mansion.

A source revealed: “Robbie had made it clear he didn't want anything special to mark his birthday.

“He told his friends he was quite happy staying at home, because he doesn’t feel he has much to celebrate."

The chart-topping star – worth a reputed £90m – has also battled booze and depression in the past. His birthday falls on the eve of the Brit Awards, giving him further cause for reflection.

It is the first time in 10 years he has not been nominated for Best British Male, British Album or Best Single awards.

Robbie, who has won a total of 15 Brits, has just one nomination this time – in the Best Live Act category. And he is not tipped to win that.

To add to his woes, his former Take That pals are performing at the Earls Court bash tomorrow night and are favourites to win Best Single award.

Pals say Robbie’s mood has not been helped by the fact that his last album, Rudebox, was panned by the critics and has been selling poorly.

In a panic move, his label EMI is planning to rush-release a follow-up to his Swing When You’re Winning album of Rat Pack favourites and get him to

perform at Las Vegas later this year.

Last month Robbie popped into a Golden Globes party in Hollywood – and admitted it was the first time he had been out in four weeks.

ROBBIE WILLIAMS BACK IN REHAB

By Mirror.co.uk 13/02/2007

ROBBIE Williams has been admitted into a rehab clinic for dependency on prescription drugs, his spokeswoman announced today.

The singer, 33 today, has entered a centre in the US, where he now lives.

Spokeswoman Bryony Watts said: “Robbie Williams has today been admitted into a treatment centre in America for his dependency on prescription drugs.â€

AdvertisementShe refused to comment further, but Robbie himself has always been outspoken on his drug and alcohol dependency.

He is thought to have gone to the famous Meadows clinic in Arizon to tackle a dependency on prescription drugs. The exclusive centre, favoured by celebrities like Kate Moss, bans contact with the outside world, alcohol, sugar, cigarettes and caffeine. But art therapy, spirituality, counselling, yoga, tai chi and acupuncture are on offer.

After leaving eighties boyband Take That in 1995 to embark on a solo career, Stoke-on-Trent lad Robbie began drinking heavily and taking drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy.

He has often seemed troubled by insecurity and admits to suffering from depression.

His first stint in rehab came after Elton John – who also fought a battle with drug addiction – “kidnapped†Robbie and made him seek treatment.

Although the star, who has sold more albums in the UK than any other British solo artist, managed to beat the booze, he still chain-smokes and has now apparently turned to prescription drugs too.

The Meadows clinic says its intensive treatment deals not just with the symptoms of addiction but also addresses the "core patterns that have caused continual return to self-destructive behaviours". A spokesman refused to say who was currently staying there.

Before you know it people will be calling him Rehab Robbie :(

Robbie Goes Into Rehab

Updated: 12:41, Tuesday February 13, 2007

Singer Robbie Williams has been admitted into rehab for treatment for his dependency on prescription drugs, his spokeswoman has announced.

The former Take That star, who is 33 today, has entered a clinic in the US.

His spokeswoman Bryony Watts said: "Robbie Williams has today been admitted into a treatment centre in America for his dependency on prescription drugs.

"There will be no further comment on this matter."

The star has constantly battled with his demons, entering rehab for addiction to drink and drugs after Take That split.

Sky's showbiz commentator Neil Sean spoke to the star recently about his new single.

Robbie Williams: Clinic He said: "He was very depressed when we spoke to him and he actually said 'I think it's time Robbie went away for a long period and didn't come back until the public want him'.

"He's taken the failure of his recent album Rudebox quite badly and he said the British media were against him.

"He's also been working very hard to make it in America - even living out there. But they just don't get this kind of music."

A friend of Robbie's, model Lisa D'Amato, says the singer has been taking antidepressants and was plagued with worries about his image.

"It was clear he was struggling with his mind," she told the News of the World. "He doesn't drink, but he needs antidepressants to get him through the day. A lot of the time he seemed on edge."

Video Clue To Health

Updated: 11:03, Tuesday February 13, 2007

The promotional video for Robbie's latest single She's Madonna could hold a clue to the singer's well-being.

In one section, Robbie - wearing women's clothing - takes part in what appears to be a spoof interview.

It obviously starts out as tongue-in-cheek but later the star becomes more serious....

In it he says: ""I have a very clear perception of who I am. I'm quite a few people. They're a great bunch of guys.

"I can't say which is my favourite because the others would get jealous!"

Of life on and off stage he says: "I thought I had to live up to the stage persona but that's just impossible.

"The stage persona is like me times 100 - it's a super-shield. You're a super hero when you get up on stage but if you try to be as exciting in real life it never comes off.

"So I had to separate the two because the real me is very shy - and a bit backward."

Robbie's Depressed Life

Updated: 15:35, Tuesday February 13, 2007

Robbie Williams' bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a serious medical illness that causes shifts in a person's mood, energy, and ability to function.

Different from the normal ups and downs that everyone goes through, the symptoms of bipolar disorder are severe.

Robbie spoke frankly about his experience with depression in a television documentary on bipolar disorder with Stephen Fry last year.

In the interview, he said he began taking antidepressants because he feared he was returning to his old ways.

"My first drug of choice was probably fantasy," he said. "Fantasising about being an actor or being a singer, going to the moon, whatever. I don't know if that was to escape a depression.

"I was sad that my career went upwards and my self-esteem went downwards," Robbie told the BBC programme.

"With me, how my depression manifested itself was that I'd stop going out. I lost the cog to socialise.

"Having said that, I'd get up in front of 40,000 people and say 'look at me, I'm ace'."

Dr Mike Smith told Sky News that rehab could be the right move for Robbie.

"He'll be put under close observation, in bed under a close watch.

"And in that protective environment he can be relieved of all his traumas, all his stresses. He won't be expected to perform. He'll be assuming the role of the patient," he said.

A person with bipolar disorder tends to experience more extreme states of mood than others, and are also thought to be at a relatively high risk of suicide.

There have also been links to above-average creativity, high productivity, extreme confidence, and self-expression.

Many successful people in the world have been diagnosed with the disorder, and some even credit it for their creativity.

"Robbie's fears may be linked to performing. He might fear he is not at his best without drugs. He might feel he can't be 'normal' without them, or that he can't sleep," said Dr Smith

f***ing hell...

I hope these $h!theads sleep well at night. bast*rds.

 :arrr:

They'll call him much worse than that Sabby. <_<

at least they don't do that here, although it was all over the radio today :(

Williams enters rehab on birthday

Williams has enjoyed a hugely successful solo career to date

Pop singer Robbie Williams has been admitted into a rehab clinic in the US on his 33rd birthday, to be treated for a dependency on prescription drugs.

It is not the first time the British star has entered rehab, having become addicted to drugs and alcohol after he left Take That in 1995.

He said later that his condition was so bad that Sir Elton John "kidnapped" him and made him seek treatment.

In September, his Asian tour was called off because of stress and exhaustion.

The Los Angeles-based performer was to have visited Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Mumbai (Bombay) and Bangalore in November.

A spokesman said at the time that to have performed in those cities after honouring European and South American commitments would have been "asking too much".

'Personal issues'

Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke - based in Williams' home town - his mother, Jan, said it was a "gift" for her that he was seeking treatment.

"He's a very public figure and all the media attention at the moment is added pressure on him," she said.

I shall be sending him loads and loads of love as always - I have always given him a lot of loving support

Jan Williams, Robbie's mother

Mrs Williams plans to fly out to the US after her son has finished his spell in rehab.

"I shall be going across at some stage but when you're in rehab, it's a programme for the person themselves, and they have to address their own personal issues," she added.

Last year, the singer spoke frankly of his experience with depression in a BBC documentary on bipolar disorder with Stephen Fry.

In the interview, he admitted taking antidepressants and that his depression had made him "stop going out".

"I'd get up in front of 40,000 people and say 'look at me, I'm ace'", he said.

"Then as soon as I got off stage, I'd get in the tour coach and go back to my bedroom and pull the duvet over my eyes."

In another TV interview, broadcast in 2004, Williams said he only gave up drugs and alcohol because they made him too fat.

He said his addiction made him "blow up to the size of a small aircraft hangar".

Williams' former Take That bandmates are currently enjoying a hugely successful comeback, including a number one single and album, and a sell-out UK tour.

Their song Patience is expected to win best single at the Brit Awards ceremony, which takes place in London on Wednesday.

But this is the first time in several years that Williams has failed to be in the running for the best male or best album categories.

So Rob going into rehab was a gift to his mum  Good that he is getting the help he needs though.

And the part where she says:

"He's a very public figure and all the media attention at the moment is added pressure on him,"

Bloody press :arrr:

I didn't take the "gift" statement as meaning a literal gift...I took it as meaning a "blessing". I could be wrong though.

Why do people want him to fail so badly?

I didn't take the "gift" statement as meaning a literal gift...I took it as meaning a "blessing". I could be wrong though.

Why do people want him to fail so badly?

Yeah your probebly right. It is so bloody sad though, that the press can't just stop slagging him off. Even if he dropped dead, they still would'nt stop. Evil bast*rds, the lot of them. :puke2:

Sadly, I think it is more a reflection of society.

Anyway I think this song sums things up perfectly, by a band who after 30 years announced their disbandment on the day fellow Post-Punk New Wave band The Police confirmed their reformation:

XTC - The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead (1992)

Lyrics by Andy Partridge:

Peter Pumpkinhead came to town

Spreading wisdom and cash around

Fed the starving and housed the poor

Showed the vatican what gold's for

But he made too many enemies

Of the people who would keep us on our knees

Hooray for Peter Pumpkin

Who'll pray for Peter Pumpkinhead?

Oh my!

Peter Pumpkinhead pulled them all

Emptied churches and shopping malls

Where he spoke, it would raise the roof

Peter Pumpkinhead told the truth

But he made too many enemies...

Of the people who would keep us on our knees

Hooray for Peter Pumpkin

Who'll pray for Peter Pumpkinhead?

Peter Pumpkinhead put to shame

Governments who would slur his name

Plots and sex scandals failed outright

Peter merely said

Any kind of love is alright

But he made too many enemies...

Of the people who would keep us on our knees

Hooray for Peter Pumpkin

Who'll pray for Peter Pumpkinhead?

Peter Pumpkinhead was too good

Had him nailed to a chunk of wood

He died grinning on live TV

Hanging there he looked a lot like you

And an awful lot like me!

But he made too many enemies...

Of the people who would keep us on our knees

Hooray for Peter Pumpkin

Who'll pray for Peter Pumpkinhead?

Hooray for Peter Pumpkin

Who'll pray for Peter Pumpkin

Hooray for Peter Pumpkinhead

Oh my oh my oh!

Doesn't it make you want to cry oh?

It was rather upsetting to hear his Mum speaking on BBC Radio about him / it must be very hard for her listening to all that carry on about her Son.

Robbie checks into top U.S. rehab clinic

Tormented pop star Robbie Williams has been admitted into a famous US rehab clinic for addiction to prescription drugs.

As reported in later editions of yesterday's Evening Times, the former Take That star is staying at the Meadows clinic in Arizona, favoured by celebrities.

The exclusive centre, high in the Sonoran Desert and surrounded by mountain views, is renowned for its tough programme which bans contact with the outside world, alcohol, sugar, cigarettes and caffeine.

advertisementBut art therapy, spirituality, counselling, yoga, tai chi and acupuncture are also on offer.

The Meadows says its intensive treat-ment deals with the "patterns that have caused self-destructive behaviours".

A spokeswoman said the centre never confirmed or denied who was staying there.

Williams, who moved to Los Angeles to crack the US market and remove himself from the London party scene, was 33 yesterday.

His spokeswoman Bryony Watts said: "Robbie has been admitted into a treatment centre. There will be no further comment."

http://people.monstersandcritics.com/featu...save_his_career

London - Robbie Williams' mother is well acquainted with what he is going through in a rehab clinic in Arizona. Jan Williams, 56, is after all a counsellor for drug addicts, and she is restraining her natural impulse to rush to his side.

'I am not going out to visit Robbie yet. Rehab is all about being on your own. But once he gets better I will be over there like a shot,' she told The Sun newspaper.

After the initial shock, friends and relatives of the 33-year-old popstar have expressed relief that he has entered rehab. Many had been alarmed by dark hints of suicide coming from the suspected manic depressive.

He tends to liken himself to the famous drummer of The Who, Keith Moon, who died of a drug overdose.

Moon gets a mention in Robbie's Good Doctor on the 2006 album Rudebox, along with the words: 'I've got all these demons, And I can't stop 'em. To tell you the truth, Doc, I might have a problem.'

Robbie has taken up the battle to kick his drug demons, apparently in the exclusive Meadows Clinic in Wickenberg.

The popstar's addiction was revealed in detail in Britain's Wednesday press. Apart from a fistful of Seroxat, an antidepressant, there is the astonishing revelation that he consumes 30 double espressos a day.

The 60 cigarettes seem by contrast a minor habit, alongside 20 Red Bull energy drinks.

It came as small surprise that he was lying awake until 5 a.m. on this cocktail, before dropping off into an exhausted, although brief, sleep.

Friends report how during the day he was clearly under the influence of psychotropic drugs and painkillers.

The Daily Mirror said it had once taken three hours of ringing the bell before he came to the door of his Los Angeles home.

Apart from the obvious health concerns, Robbie fans are beginning to wonder whether he can kickstart his career.

Lack of success in the charts in recent months could be having as devastating an effect on his psyche as the chemicals he is swallowing.

The Rudebox album was such a disappointment that two heads of department responsible for its production got fired by the record company concerned.

The Manchester star so accustomed to success must also have mixed feelings at the successful link-up of his old band Take That, whose reunion tour was a blockbuster.

Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald secured a Number One with the single Patience last year, as they did with the album Beautiful World.

Robbie had abandoned the group in the summer of 1995 after conflict over his lifestyle.

As the Sun headlined: 'Take That... And That... And That.' It predicted that Robbie's musical career could be at an end.

That may be premature. The Meadows Clinic has helped other stars to recovery.

Kate Moss checked in there in November 2005, after being snapped snorting cocaine at a party. There were predictions then that her modelling career was over, as companies cancelled contracts and hoardings with her image came down.

A few months later the British model was back - and earning much more than before.
