Indie stars go head-to-head with neighbours The Human League

Arctic Monkeys stole the show on the second full day of Benicassim tonight (July 21).

Yorkshire's favourite sons attracted the biggest main stage crowd of the weekend as they notched up yet another festival victory, sandwiched between the unlikely combination of B-52's and Fischerspooner.

The band found themselves head-to-head with a different generation of Sheffield heroes in the form of The Human League, who played the Fiberfib.com stage directly before.

And despite telling a press conference earlier on that he "hates rock", Human League singer Phil Oakey was full of praise for his townsmen.

He told NME.COM: "They're not very flabby. I think they've got some interesting extra bits. They've got an element of French, sort of Jacques Brel influence, which we've never had in English music, which helps a lot. Especially if you're a Sheffielder, you know what they're on about."

Arctic Monkeys played:

'The View From The Afternoon'

'Brianstorm'

'Still Take You Home'

'Dancing Shoes'

'Teddy Picker'

'This House Is A Circus'

'Fluorescent Adolescent'

'Fake Tales Of San Francisco'

'Balaclava'

'Old Yellow Bricks'

'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'

'If You Were There, Beware'

'Do Me A Favour'

'Leave Before The Lights Come On'

'When The Sun Goes Down'

'505'

'A Certain Romance'

Meanwhile, the festival was thrown into chaos earlier in the evening when a power surge on the festival's main stage played havoc across the site.

Albert Hammond, Jr. main stage set was cut short by two songs, while in the nearby tent, CSS had to abandon their show three songs in until power returned and they could finish their set.

Other highlights today included Jamie T and !!!. Benicassim concludes tomorrow with a main stage show from Muse.
