t was the perfect relationship. Everything was going great. You were in love.

Then, came "The Talk."

Now it's over and you're alone on Valentine's Day. Your lover is with someone else, and you can't move on.

Eating? Out of the question.

Crying? You betcha.

Leaving your house? Never.

Well, if you're gonna sulk, you might as well listen to some tunes.

Here's a list of the 10 songs that might cheer you up and make you forget the one that got away.

"Girlfriend in a Coma" by The Smiths

The depressing sound and dreadful lyrics from the King of Crying - Morrissey - let you know that "it's serious." The song, released in 1987 on The Smiths' last studio album, "Strangways, Here We Come," is a testament to anyone who's been in a relationship where they hated the other person at times (I could have strangled her), but doesn't ever want anything bad to happen.

Best Lyric: "Let me whisper my last goodbyes."

"Love Will Tear Us Apart," by Joy Division

The lyrics evoke pain, suffering, death and suicide - everything that was lead singer Ian Curtis' life. Released after Curtis' death in 1980, the song reached No. 1 on the U.K. charts and became the band's only hit. As a final tribute, Curtis' tombstone has the title of the song inscribed as his epitaph.

Best Lyric: "You cry out in your sleep all my failings exposed. And there's a taste in my mouth as desperation takes hold."

"Everything About You," by Ugly Kid Joe

Ugly Kid Joe hates everything, and when you've just broken up with someone, you hate everything, too. Instead of listening to the mopey songs, Ugly Kid Joe lets you get out that rage and tell the world you hate everything. Hopefully, your ex is listening.

Best Lyric: "And I, get sick when I'm around. I cant stand to be around. I hate everything about you!"

"You've Lost that Loving Feeling," by the Righteous Brothers

Your parents listened to it when they needed to get over their lost loves and you can, too, because the message is the same: Sometimes love doesn't last forever. In the song, the singer is searching, begging and pleading for his lover to act like the person he fell in love with, but that loving feeling has slipped away.

Best Lyric: "You never close your eyes any more when I kiss your lips."

"Clean Sheets," by Descendents

When you put so much trust in someone, it's like a punch to the stomach when you find out the one you love is cheating on you. The lying is the worst part. In this Descendents track, singer Milo Auckerman and the inventors of pop-punk compare dirty sheets to a lying lover. Ouch!

Best Lyric: "I want to hold you, I'll hold my pillow instead. Cause my pillow will never lie or be with a stranger in my bed."

"Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray," by Pasty Cline

Two lovers. Then a stranger comes along. Soon, it becomes a triangle, with someone getting their heart broken. In this classic tune, a helpless Cline sings of a new woman taking her man. By the end, she's alone, with only one cigarette burning in an ashtray.

Best Lyric: "Now they are gone, and I sit alone. And watch one cigarette burn away."

"I can't get over you" by The Queers featuring Lisa Marr

When that person leaves you forever, you think about the good times and the possibility of getting back together (even if you know it could never be). This poppy punk rock ode is for the one you can't get over and a reminder that sometimes love stinks.

Best Lyric: "Passing by the places where you used to be. What I wouldn't give to have you here with me. I know I'm stupid and I know you're gone. I know a lot but I can't get over you."

"Crying" by Roy Orbison

When Orbison released "Crying" in 1961, he had already been a star with hits from his early days on Sun Records. The story behind this song comes from a chance encounter Orbison had with an ex love. When they broke up, he never told her how much he loved her, and when he saw her again, all those emotions came back.

Best Lyric: "It's hard to understand. But the touch of your hand. Can start me crying."

"I'm so lonesome I could cry" by Hank Williams

When Hank Williams begins the song, it sounds like the world is coming to an end. His sad voice, and even sadder delivery, makes the listener feel the lonely man's pain. Williams later died at the age of 29 in the back seat of a car. His final single was called "I'll never get out of the world alive."

Best Lyric: "And as I wonder where you are, I'm so lonesome I could cry."

"Glad to See You Go" by the Ramones

The Ramones may not be known for their touching lyrics, sultry looks or slowed-down guitar solos, but they got their point across in two minutes or less.

In "Glad to See You Go," an ex-lover decides to murder his girlfriend in hopes of getting rid of her, and then he plans on becoming famous "like Charles Manson."

If you're looking for sappy, stick to Bright Eyes.

Best Lyric: "You gotta go go go go goodbye. Glad to see you go go go go goodbye."

Dreadful lyrics? I certainly wouldn't say so but that's the way I've always interpreted Girlfriend In A Coma.

Some people love to hate Moz. I believe if i made a thread ''Why Don't you like Morrissey?'' we'd get alot of replies ;) lol

I´m doing a compilation to a girl of songs i heard when she broke my heart. It will take a long time, in the film High Fidelity, rob says:

Now, the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do's and don'ts. First of all you're using someone else's poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing.

This is so true. I'm trying that every verse of the songs have a meaning.
