Police are blaming gangs of Bulgarian women, drawn to the UK by European Union expansion, for soaring rates of pickpocketing in London.

Official crime figures due out in April are expected to show a disturbing rise in pickpocketing offences, especially on the London Underground. Across the capital, there has been a 120 per cent rise in pickpocket crimes in January compared with last year. 'And that is the ones we know about,' said a senior detective. 'We are looking at 250 crimes a week.'

The robberies, police say, are mainly being committed by groups of Bulgarian women in their 20s. 'The problem is we can't deport them like Bosnians, because they are part of the European Union. Extra police resources have had to be put in to tackle this problem.'

 

Is this is what European enlargement is all about. How come our thieves don’t go over to Bulgaria.

 

Deport the vermin

Send them back where they came from. They don't deserve to live here if they're stealing.

It should be done but unfortunately we can't deport Europeans because of the treaty of Rome which allows free movement in Europe, I am getting more and more inclined towards a total pullout of Europe anyways so if that happened then we can deport foreign chavs

Eugh it's f***in sick. These t**** come over here to make money by working for us and then they go round STEALING off people. I'd rather we pulled out of the EU and just deported the lot. -_-

Oh come on, like there weren't pickpockets on the Tube anyway..... :lol: :lol: . This sort of petty thievery is, and always has been, a fact of life in London (read your Charles Dickens sometime...). If people actually showed a little common sense with their valuables and made sure that they were secure, in a zipped up jacket pocket (where i keep MY wallet...) or bag, then the thieves of whatever nationality would have very slender pickings indeed.... The facts are, that there will ALWAYS be stupid tourists who dont look after their things properly and go around with their heads in the clouds (and I reckon in about 90% of these cases it's tourists who are the victims anyway), I reckon you'll find that for those of us who actually live here, we're far more sussed, we know the dangers and we pretty much know who and what to look out for... People need to educate themselves to the dangers and prevent themselves from becoming victims instead of just moaning about 'bloody Bulgarians' or the EU expansion...

If you saw the way some people act mate, believe me, you'd be shaking your head at the utter stupidity as well.... I'm noy saying they're asking for it, but surely a little common sense isn't really too much to ask for.... I mean, would YOU go around flashing your expensive mobile phone on the tube...? Would YOU leave your mobile phone on a pub table while you went off to the loo...? Of course you wouldn't... There's a pretty good anti-crime advertising campaign which basically says to people "be streetwise, dont be silly" at the moment...

Correct Lucy... I was about to point out the incredible irony of Rob's statement but you beat me to it.... We live in a country where the supposed 'lawmakers' are vastly more crooked and evil than some sod who nicks your wallet on the tube... And what is 'civilised' about the way our Govts and our Companies and Corporations treat farmers and workers in the Third World...? Do me a favour... The biggest thieves and villains in our society aint on the Underground, they're in the Corridors of Power and in Boardrooms.... <_<

this report might be more of an 'urban panic story' for people in the home counties to worry about?

Alot of european people have poped up around my town lately, especially polish, i don't think the crime rate has gone up here :unsure: ... but i think it is stupid how countries which aren't exactly rich countries are allowed to join... Bulgaria, poland and romania shouldn't have been allowed to join for at least another 5 years. -_-

And just who the hell are you to decide mate...? Spain and Greece aint exactly rolling in it either and they've both been members for decades (both countries' economies were in an absolute state when they joined, and Greece's in particular hasn't improved that much really..), would you chuck them out....?

ey? properly qualified plumber/electrician?.. well these cut priced bodge jobbers who ARNT properly qualified have swamped the building/construction industry putting our properly qualified tradesmen out of business! these johnny foreigners are working for less then what our own properly qualified tradesmen can! not having a mortgage and family to support these young men are living on the cheap, working on the cheap and sending the bloody money home!

We have enough home grown yobs and scumbags to contend with we really do not need other country's scum

Mate you know nothing with all due respect.... Polish and Czech State schools run the Apprenticeship system (like ours used to...) in which pupils who arent too academic can learn a trade, so I think you'll find they ARE qualified tradesmen for the most part.... And just because unscupulous employers are EXPLOITING these guys with ridiculously low wages, you cant blame the workers for that mate... How about you and the bloody Politicians and Tabloids actually criticise the ones doing the exploiting for once instead of blaming the exploited....

 

And just what the hell is wrong with them sending some of their money home TO THEIR FAMILIES anyway FFS????? Like actually having a bloody sense of familial duty and responsibility is a BAD thing now.....??? I think you're missing my point Craig.... Basically, my point is this - what bloody difference does the nationality of a criminal make...?? A thief is a thief, nationality is irrelevant... If you ask me all this is just another excuse for the Tabloids and ignorant people to go around bashing Eastern Europeans again... And yeah, I bloody well AM sensitive about it seeing as how I'm going out with a Polish girl after all.... I see the way that some people look down at her, and you better fukkin believe that it PISSES ME OFF!!!!!! <_< <_< <_< They know NOTHING about her, they dont know that she's a University Graduate and is holding down a good job as an Assistant Manager in an exclusive retailer in Regent's Street (my use of the word 'exclusive' basically means that unlike most others, they actually pay her the proper going rate for a person of her experience and expertise).... No, she's just a 'bloody foreigner taking our jobs' isn't she....? Fukk off to that attitude, I'm sick of hearing it. That's pretty much it mate... Another story for Middle England to 'tut-tut' about while having tea and scones and playing sodding croquet on the lawn..... I travel on the Tube every day, and I'm sorry, I've yet to see any 'marauding gangs' of Bulgarian women.....

I am Eastern European myself Scott so I have no hatred of Eastern Europeans at all, I am 50% Russian and 25% Polish based on grandparentage and parentage and having experienced a lot of people from that region they are among the kindest most friendly people I have ever come across. I am just anti criminal regardless of whether the criminal is British or non British
