Posted February 20, 200718 yr Madonna's Talks About Religious Meanings In Life And On Tour February 16, 2007 4:27 a.m. EST Sally Grover - All Headline News Contributor Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Madonna has always been both controversial and religious. However, now the pop icon is taking it one step further by comparing herself to historical figures. The "Hung Up" singer told Sirius Satellite Radio's OutQ channel that her recent controversial images in her tour, including being nailed to a cross, are designed to spread the message of Jesus. She said, "I hope people got that message. Of course, some people thought, 'Oh, she's just being controversial, she's just getting on a cross and trying to p**s people off.' But that wasn't my intention at all." The singer added that she wants to be thought of like some of the most influential people of the past century. She continued, "I want to be like Gandhi and Martin Luther King and John Lennon - but I want to stay alive. For me we all need to be Jesus in our time." Madonna, who created a media storm when she adopted a one-year-old African boy, finished by talking about her connection to gay men. The star said, "Gay men are perfect men for girls who are tough. They're not threatened by strong women, and they're usually very in touch with their feelings and pay attention to details. I've always had an affinity with gay men."
