The first completely amazing pop record of 2007

Tuesday, 20 February 2007

www.popjustice.com

You get two or three of these a year and here's the first of 2007...

It's by Groove Armada (!?!).

It's also by MUTYA F...KING BUENA.

It's called - fanfare - 'Song For Mutya'!!!

It sounds like Richard X AND Xenomania AND Goldfrapp on the same song.

It sounds VERY 1980s.

It sounds VERY 2010s.

It sounds like a Number One.

If you were to place Mutya's George Michael duet at Land's End and this track at John O'Groats they still would not be far enough apart to denote just how amazing this song is compared with how terrible the George Michael one was.

It's got some "hey!" bits.

It is a bit like a really stompy electro version of what the Sugababes' 'Easy' was probably supposed to be.

Its lyrical concerns are driving fast, listening to Prince, sitting at some traffic lights and seeing your boyfriend pull up next to you with another, rubbish girl in his passenger seat. We are not sure about the environmental ethics of two-car households but they make for AMAZING pop records.

Its chorus is all "it's a sure fire way to ruin my day, blahblahblah".

Its final moments are very New Ordery.

It does, admittedly, have a fade at the end, but it's a fade with ZAPPING NOISES over it.

You are going to LOVE it.

:yahoo: Can't wait to hear this... has anyone here got any other news on this?

just checked GA's website @ www.groovearmada.com. they confirmed this as a track in their forthcoming album, Soundboy Rock with the title 'Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)'. the album's tbr in early may.
PJ can be very impulsive, but that's what I like about them. ^_^

more update on song 4 mutya... found this write-up in groove armada's biog at the sony bmg's site (http://www.sonybmgmusic.co.uk/artist_spotlight/groove_armada/biog)

Back in London, Findlay was working with Mutya Buena and hit songwriter Karen Poole. Cato had come across the former Sugarbabe singer via a Chicago-based website from which he sources a lot of his vinyl; he had no idea who she was. Pool, meanwhile, had been put forward as a possible collaborator by Groove Armada's new A&R man.

Findlay: "That was a new thing. We always thought, we're songwriters - we don't need anyone else."

Cato: "But the spirit on this record on this album was definitely "let's just try it". We've got nothing to lose, and nothing to prove. It's good to keep the door open to other influences."

The result: Song 4 Mutya, a huge, jump-around pop tune, sure to dominate dancefloors and airwaves all summer.

"soundboy rock" release is pinned by sony bmg on 7th may

and from groove armada's myspace blog (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...-8616254270b4ML), some interesting entries from tom & andy about mutya:

So, there are a few guests on the album you haven't told us about yet.

Firstly, Mutya from the Sugababes. Yes, she's on a track called Song For Mutya funnily enough. She was a really nice, easy person to work with. She came over twice to record and both times she had battered sausage and chips for lunch, which I admired. She didn't finish them either, so I got some nice scraps. She just seemed a really natural, well-adjusted girl. I don't think there's any danger of her going into a hair salon next week and shaving her hair off.

She's cooler than Britney too. Yeah, I think she's in an enviable position right now. There's not many pure pop artists that are cool. Like, with all due respect, if I said to somebody we had Natasha Bedingfield on this album it probably wouldn't have met with universal approval. But the thing about Mutya is you tell anyone and they think she's a great person to have on there.

She's got an amazing voice too. Yeah, it's a very iconic voice. It's almost like the voice of a generation.

A 4.62MB mp3 file of the song has leaked... Links to rapidshare and sendspace have been posted. Check out the new site of musicmatterz (http://musicwave.18.forumer.com/). It's in the topic "Groove Armada - out of control (song 4 Mutya), amazing piece of pop!" If you're not a member, you might need to register to access the forum.
Ive got the Song For Mutya one by Groove Armada  its pretty good

Love this seriously :o

I think her solo album is going to be amazing.

I don't think it's going on Mutya's album, just on Groove Armada's album.

It is very good but some of the lyrics are slightly annoying.
