21. Come Take Me Over
Released: 2000 (Supreme B-side)

The first track Rob wrote both the music and lyrics to apperently, well apart from the end guitar bit  It is a truely fantastic acoustic song, with great lyrics. It has such a raw sound to it, his voice is excellent on it and is a great song to sing-along to. Like so many B-sides, this should've been on an album. One day, he may release a B-sides album, perhaps along with his next 'Best of' album in a few years. He'll probebly release one in 2016, for his 20th anniversary

Is this a long range effort, 'cause I'll pitch a tent
I'm kinda used to feeling cold
Should I walk naked, should I bear my soul
Won't you help me fill this hole

And what I'm trying to say is be the one
Love me anyway... though I'm too far gone

Come take me over - I'm riddled with my past
Come take me over - is that too much to ask
Before I leave this town - love me or put me down

Got send me heaven, I wanna fall in love
You said the walking wounded could
I know I've sent my morals to an early grave
Is this the price I have to pay

What I'm tryin 'a say, if I could touch
The love I fantasize, fantasize too much

Come take me over - I'm riddled with my past
Come take me over - Is that too much to ask?
Before I leave this town - love me

Take me to the shops, tie me up and abuse me
I'm looking good, so how could you refuse me
See I'm so special, why ain't you cooking for two?

I'll meet your mum, I'll meet your friends
When you comin' down,
I'll love you through the bends
I know I'm special, but why ain't you cooking for two?

[PIANO SOLO]I guess what I'm try'na say,
is what I've never known
Can't use it anyway, just give me love

Come take me over - Gonna be the last
Come take me over - If she don't meet this task
Before I leave this town - Love me or put me down

20. Road To Mandalay
Released: 2000 (Sing When You're Winning) - Reached #1 in the UK

Such an amazing song  I just love it and have done since I first heard it when I got 'Sing' all those 7 years ago. I just love the simplicity of the track, his voice and the fantastic classic chorus. "Bum bum bum bum" etc. ^_^ It was released in July 2001, as a double A-Side along with 'Eternity', and reached the #1 spot in the UK, as well as New Zealand. It was also a huge hit all acccross Europe.

Here is the amazing video and a live performance clip!

Save me from drowning in the sea
Beat me up on the beach
What a lovely holiday
Theres nothing funny left to say

This sombre song would drain the sun
But it won't shine until its sung

No water running in the stream
The saddest place we've ever seen

Everything I touched was golden
Everything I loved got broken
On the Road to Mandalay
Every mistake I've ever made
Has been rehashed and then replayed
As I got lost along the way

[Refrain]There's nothing left for you to give
The truth is all that you'Re left with
Twenty paces then at dawn
We will die and be reborn

I like to sleep beneath the trees
Have the universe at one with me
Look down the barrel of a gun
And feel the Moon replace the Sun

Everything we've ever stolen
Has been lost returned or broken
No more dragons left to slay
Every mistake I've ever made
Has been rehashed and then replayed
As I got lost along the way

[Refrain]

Save me from drowning in the sea
Beat me up on the beach
What a lovely holiday
Theres nothing funny left to say

22. The 90's

Released: 2006 (Rudebox)

This song is now a classic. It is my favourite on Rudebox along with The 80's. A simply wonderful track, with amazing lyrics about his days in Take That that only he could write. Lines like "I'm pissed and I'm f***ed and i'm only 19" are excellent. The music to this song is also very good, very Beatles like at the start. The whole arrangment is just perfection. A classic Robbie track.

Here is a short clips of Rob singing it, whilst on the photoshoot of Rudebox :D

And a clip made my a fan of the song in full.

I love this as well Scotty....have you ever figured out the lyrics that are missing & at what points in the verses...I can spot here & there that there seems to be long gaps along the way.....any ideas....

It's such a pity that he messed that up for the album as that track deserved to be complete on the album.....

Rob sang the missing lyrics at the Milton Keynes gig Tessat, I presume they were meant to be in where the gaps are. Here it is. B)

LOVE the 90's !!!!

Wish someone would leak the whole unedited song.

Thank you for that Scotty...

Yeah RF4L ..it is a great pity that it could not have been fully released....I love the track but I know each time I listen to it that there is something missing....my other favourites are The Actor & the 80's...great tracks.....

19. Monsoon
Released: 2002 (Escapology)

Amazing song, such a classic rock anthem, one of the best live songs he has, and to think it was never even a single, and yet he still sings it live to this day. Proves how amazing it is. Would've made a great single imo, the lyrics are just to witty and typical of Rob, the music, melody, everything about this song is just ace. :yahoo: One of the few great songs on Escapology -_-

Here is BY far the best performance of Monsoon - At Knebworth. Simply amazing.

Here it is at the RW show/

Leeds

Brazil

Argentina

Written by - R Williams/Guy Chambers

I've sung some songs that were lame
I've slept with girls on the game
I've got my Catholic shame
Lord I'm in purgatory
Basically, it's all come on top for me

I wasn't me when we met
You haven't lost my respect
I'm here to serve and protect
What shade of insanity
Keeps leading you back to me

So put your hands across the water
monsoon
Monsoon
Come soon

Don't wanna p*** on your parade
I'm here to make money and get laid
Yeah I'm a star but I'll fade
If you ain't sticking your knives in me
You will be eventually

To all you Sharons and Michelles
With all your tales to sell
Save your meat money well
I'm glad that spending a night with me
Guaranteed you celebrity

And I can't talk in a crowd
When I'm alone I'm too loud
You've done your daddies proud
Thank you for keeping me company
You've all been so nice to me

So put your hands across the water
Monsoon
Monsoon
Come soon

Oh Lord', I feel nothing
I know much smarter men never got this far

I've got so many regrets
I smoked too many cigarettes
I've had more blondes than brunettes
I'm not expecting your sympathy
But it's all been too much for me

So put your hands across the water
Monsoon
Monsoon
Come soon
So put your hands across the water
Monsoon
Monsoon
Come soon
Good placing. I agree, simply great song. Amazing live. :yahoo: Should have been a single for sure. :(

18. The 80’s
Released: 2006 (Rudebox album)

My absolute favourite song on Rudebox. Truely remarkable track in every way about Rob's childhood in the 80's. From the very first listen I just loved it, which is VERY rare for me. ^_^ It is without a doubt lyrically one of the finest songs he's ever written, it just proves that he is up there with the best in the busineess when it comes to lyrics. It is both sad and hilarous. This song reminds me of 'The Streets' and I am quite sure if they had've released it as a single, it would be hailed as a masterpiece. There was rumour that this, along with the 90's was going to be the next single off Rudebox but I very much doubt it. There was however, an official video made which won the Rudebox Shorts comp, and a great vid it is as well.

I smoked Consulates and Park Drive, drank Nookie Brown
Learned how to skive
Polo mints to hide my breath from my mum
Did a little weed cuz it felt like fun
Did a little bit of speed if my friend had some
Nicked Volkswagen badges I'm a Beastie Boys son
Me so horny, me so young and I still get my washing done
Auntie Joe died of cancer God didn't have an answer
Rhythm was a dancer
Any room for a chancer? That's me in the corner, thanks sir!
I wore a troop track suit, British Knights shoes, Kangol hat like LL Cool's
Before I was 'avin it, 'avin it large
They nicked the BMX from out my garage
Knew it was Tier from off the estate cuz every time he'd see me, he'd smile like we were mates
From then on in I'd have to walk to me Nan's
And I'd dream my dreams through a sea of prams
Like a hooligan on the football stands
And I'd throw the v's to Leeds and West Ham
Then I ran, I ran so far away down Scotia Road to a taxi bay
Then I ran again cuz I couldn't pay, a Muslim didn't get his fare that day
I apologise today

Things are better when they start
That's how the 80s broke my heart

And who are you calling poof? You like Wham, man, I hate that stuff
And then my grandad died and left a hole in the family and lots of women had to nanny me
School was a laugh, they didn't have ADD, thick was the term they used for me
(over and over)
Repeatedly
(over and over)

Take my breath away take my breath away
Bidly bidly bidly bong
Pass it on the left hand side, right turn, Clyde

That girl in the fourth year, got pregnant and she was raised Catholic, brilliant!
I cried, she cried, we cried, her youth died
Drank cider in the cemetery
The year above us had discovered E and I said it weren't for me
?12.50? I could rob me mum's purse and buy one off chalcky
Met a girl on Monday, drank fizzy pop on Tuesday
Fingered her on Wednesday and on Thursday and Friday and on Saturday
Dumped by Sunday

Things are better when they start
That's how the 80s broke my heart
The wonder years, I've played my part
That's how the 80s broke my heart

Like I said, I lost my virginity to a girl called Anne-Marie, well she said she fancied me
And then she said "f*** me" and I thought 'f*** me, I'm all talk and it'll be over too quickly'
And it was but I couldn't care less, I'd seen a girl's part, made a mess on her dress, oh yes!
You're now rocking with the best, second person in my year that had seen a breast
I'm in my 30s now and I'm still impressed
Where are the Flawclands mum? And what have they done?
Where do girls come from? Where do girls come from? Where do girls come from?

It's the 80s, what you looking at, ya mong?
So young, so long, so young, so long
Too short, so long
What you looking at ya mong?
Too short, so long, too short, so long
So long.

Looks like this list is going to end one day after all :teresa:

I know. What will we all do with out days without this wonderful countdown to look forward to. :(

Good placing. I agree, simply great song. Amazing live. :yahoo: Should have been a single for sure. :(

Makes you wonder how they select the tracks to be realeased as singles....it does not always seem to be the ones that he likes most ( as in Monsoon ) ...or do they release as singles the ones that they think will appeal more to the Radio listeners.....

I can never figure it out...................
