Posted March 1, 200718 yr which retro genre is the one you hate most? and which tracks of that genre do you like most?.. i detest sweet soul and philly, i find it cringeworthy, i hated the way that 60's soul was prettied up and made into caberet.. i hate the stylistics, chi-lites, barry white and all that 70's vile music. but i did like the detroit emeralds......'feel the need in me' delfonics....................... 'put yourself in my place' archie bell and the drells...'here i go again'
March 1, 200718 yr Country and Western.. The absolute worst type of cheesy, horrendous Americana rubbish, Kenny Rogers, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, UGH!!!! Just terrible really.. An awful watering down and corruption of the original Bluegrass and other American Folk Musics of the deep South.... However, I do like a bit of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson or Hank Williams every now and then, somehow they manage to transcend the awfulness that is prevalent in the genre...
March 1, 200718 yr How can you hate genres? you havent heard every single song from one genre, how can you say that? Also most songs have other genres co-ordinated into them!
March 1, 200718 yr The only genre of music I truly despise is generic Country & Western. As a result anything that is remotely good from the genre (ie. Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons, Eagles, Shania Twain, Dixie Chicks or Carrie Underwood) I regard as rock or pop.
March 1, 200718 yr Author How can you hate genres? you havent heard every single song from one genre, how can you say that? Also most songs have other genres co-ordinated into them! easy!... the point of this thread is to find the good bits out of a style of music that you really dont like.. you dont have to hear every track in any genre, but you take it as a whole... hell this shouldnt need explaining <_<

See I think the only period at which country music was even LISTENABLE was the 70's - those cheesy hits still sound great today! Okay so Tammy Wynette was awful but Dolly and Linda Ronstadt and the adorable Kenny Rogers... it's a guilty pleasure of mine. The c**p that passes for "country" music these days is merely rock music with a whiney voice, southern accent and a steel guitar. That's why broadly popular artists like Shania Twain can have a country version, a pop version, and a dance version of each of her songs dominating 3 charts at one time (and in numerous countries at one time, but that's rare). March 2, 200718 yr I can't stand that early 60's...sort of "California" genre (if it can be described that way) comprising of the awful Beach Boys and about 500 ripoffs.
March 2, 200718 yr 'Alternative' is the worst genre. Alternative to what??? All it meant was putting a whole lot of unrelated bands together and excluding a whole mess of bands that were truely alternative to the mainstream. 'Indie''s just as bad as most 'indie' bands seem to make records for SonyBMG or EMI

March 2, 200718 yr The only genre of music I truly despise is generic Country & Western. Gram Parsons I wouldn't regard him as Country and Western either to be honest mate.... Ditto for Neil Young
March 2, 200718 yr I don't like Jazz or 50s R&R. Even so I don't think they are as bad as today's Urban.
March 2, 200718 yr See I think the only period at which country music was even LISTENABLE was the 70's - those cheesy hits still sound great today! ... it's a guilty pleasure of mine. Where else can you get lyrics like ". . . Mommas in the kitchen, cookin' fried chicken, wishin that I hadn't done wrong"

'Indie''s just as bad as most 'indie' bands seem to make records for SonyBMG or EMI  With all due respect, that is hardly the fault of the genre itself, or really the bands in it that's the fault of Record Companies who want to promote certain acts as being something 'different' even when they're not, it's also the fault of lazy journalists, etc... I agree with your sentiments however, today's "Altenative" scene is hardly worthy of the name, how can a band getting in the Top 10 be 'Alternative' ffs...? And just how can a band on a Major record label or offshoot be considered 'Indie' anyway...?
March 2, 200718 yr The c**p that passes for "country" music these days is merely rock music with a whiney voice, southern accent and a steel guitar. Oh Gawd yeah... I dont consider people like Shania Twain as 'Country', it's Pop pure and simple.... Calling the likes of Shania Twain 'Country' is a bit like calling My Chemical Romance or Fall Out Boy Heavy Metal really....
March 2, 200718 yr My most hated genre, although not really retro is the Canadian/American Nu-Metal SH!TE. Puddle Of Mudd, Nickelback, Papa Roach, Staind etc :puke2: Edited March 2, 200718 yr by RabbitFurCoat

March 2, 200718 yr And just how can a band on a Major record label or offshoot be considered 'Indie' anyway...? That's what I've said millions of times on here.. It's just as pop as anything really, ok Franz and Arctic Monkeys are on Domino so you could say they're 'Indie' but they're music is very commerical so you can't call it 'proper Indie'. Kaiser Chiefs' similarity to Blur especially makes me call it Brit-Pop really. My most hated genre isn't retro either but it's all the American R&B $h!te who all seem to talk about the same things "Oh you cheated on me" "Look! I have lots of money, you REALLY care don't you?" not forgetting that a lot of them mention their race in it, what does that have to bloody music ffs? <_<
March 2, 200718 yr Any band that actually referred to themselves as 'Brit-pop' is automatically bad. :D
