Any band that actually referred to themselves as 'Brit-pop' is automatically bad. :D

odd.... 'britpop' is just another name for mod, new wave, punk, its just its latest incarnation.. uk boys with guitars playing blues based pop... that has been the backbone of the whole music industry ever since the beatles ....

so whats your fav tracks of this your most hated genre?.. (thats the theme of the thread,..not..'i hate........')

The American country rock music of the early 70’s, although I liked a few of the songs namely America with A horse with no name, The Allman Brothers and Jessica, Neil Young and Heart of gold, Eagles and One of those nights

America with A horse with no name

I like that song, it's got a seriously sinister undercurrent running through it lyrically... You can imagine nutters like David Koresh, Jim Jones or Charlie Manson having this on their i-Pods...

I see where your coming from, I love this record, here are the lyrics

On the first part of the journey

I was looking at all the life

There were plants and birds and rocks and things

There was sand and hills and rings

The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz

And the sky with no clouds

The heat was hot and the ground was dry

But the air was full of sound

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name

It felt good to be out of the rain

In the desert you can remember your name

'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain

La, la...

After two days in the desert sun

My skin began to turn red

After three days in the desert fun

I was looking at a river bed

And the story it told of a river that flowed

Made me sad to think it was dead

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name

It felt good to be out of the rain

In the desert you can remember your name

'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain

La, la...

After nine days I let the horse run free

'Cause the desert had turned to sea

There were plants and birds and rocks and things

there was sand and hills and rings

The ocean is a desert with it's life underground

And a perfect disguise above

Under the cities lies a heart made of ground

But the humans will give no love

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name

It felt good to be out of the rain

In the desert you can remember your name

'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain

La, la...

It got to the top 3 in Uk and No.1 in USA

Indie, Heavy Rock, Metal, Pure Country, and generally anything that lacks anything that has something melodic about it, the more underground techno and hardcore rap.

erm.. indie does have melody....

You've obviously not heard very much Indie, Metal or Rock if you dont think many bands in those genres use melody in their music... As for Rap and Techno (underground or otherwise), well, what that's mainly about the rhythm, the beat, the vibration and always has been, with actual melody taking a very distant second place...

When i mentioned melody i mentioned it for rap and techno. I know they're about the beat, which is why I dislike them. Although if these genres have a beat & melody, hence more commercial, I usually like it a lot. As for the guitar genres, I just dislike them a lot, not my thing at all.

Obviously a few exceptions are made in some cases.

then what are your fav tracks from your most hated genre?.. that was what was asked m8 :)

I really don't like Urban/RnB but that's hardly retro is it!

I guess if we're talking retro then it has to be country that I really intensely dislike.

Except for Jolene - now that is a class tune. And Johnny Cash.

Oh I also dislike easy listening, you know Perry Como, Matt Monro, that kind of rubbish. Except I really like Born Free (but that's probably due to Vic Reeves doing it)

i like a few Garbage, Skunk Anansie and Matchbox 20 songs. Most other groups are normally 1 good song max.

Country and Western.. The absolute worst type of cheesy, horrendous Americana rubbish, Kenny Rogers, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, UGH!!!! Just terrible really.. An awful watering down and corruption of the original Bluegrass and other American Folk Musics of the deep South....

However, I do like a bit of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson or Hank Williams every now and then, somehow they manage to transcend the awfulness that is prevalent in the genre...

thats why we try to use the term Americana and talk about uncle tupelo over and over again

thats a great song and so is ventura highway.

i was thinking of doing a tread that emcompassed America in one form or another. Obv I'm not allowed by 'the lawe' to talk about them any further

I think RabbitFurCoat has summed up the worse genre so beautifully! Good on ya!

Retro-wise - I cannot abide 80s stadium rock!

And one retro track I truly depise beyond compare is Bryan Adams 'Summer of 69'!

And I also HATE Queen with passion! I know some will be upset by that second comment..

I'd agree with pretty much all of that.... But not all Big Hair Rock was bad... Dave Lee Roth was good fun, as is some Van Halen stuff, Hanoi Rocks were pretty awesome... Heart were pretty okay too... But in general, it sucked... For every Hanoi Rocks or Dave Lee Roth you unfortunately had about a hundred Chers or Bon Jovis....

Drum 'n' Bass...? I thought you liked Roni Size.... It's far from being a total loss - Goldie (when he's not being wanky...), LTJ Bukem, Alec Empire's early solo stuff....
