Posted March 7, 200718 yr The National Association of Recording Merchandisers (NARM) in Marlton, N.J., and the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland, released a list of what they term the definitive 200 albums of all time. Topped by the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson and Led Zeppelin, the list is a virtual who’s who of the artists who we all love and rock out to: 116 - Mariah Carey “ Daydream “ 1995 That's great news! :D Definatly her best album overall! March 7, 200718 yr Author I think #116 for Mariah is a bit low tbh  Me too :(! But like 99% of the top 100 is all rock :|
March 7, 200718 yr 116 sucks! She should be way higher and have more than one album in there, I'm thinking TEOM, Butterfly and maybe Music Box too.
March 8, 200718 yr It's good that she made it. :cheer: Compared with the others on the list (which I haven't seen, but I'm assuming that I don't like ), she should have made it higher.
March 8, 200718 yr not her best album but her most successful Her most succsessful album is "Music Box", which has sold 3 million copies more than "Daydream" - this one is on the second position.
March 8, 200718 yr Great news for Mariah, though I agree it should have been higher. We seem to be comparing Music Box and Daydream. Here are the professional reviews of each album from Rich's thread. ;) http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf700/f746/f74698ms7q9.jpg Music Box (Sep 1993) 4 Stars Review by Ron Wynn Mariah Carey has been stung by critical charges that she's all vocal bombast and no subtlety, soul or shading. Her solution was to make an album in which her celebrated octave-leaping voice would be downplayed and she could demonstrate her ability to sing softly and coolly. Well, she was partly successful; she trimmed the volume on Music Box. Unfortunately, she also cut the energy level; Carey sounds detached on several selections. She scored a couple of huge hits, "Hero" and "Dreamlover," where she did inject some personality and intensity into the leads. Most other times, Carey blended into the background and let the tracks guide her, instead of pushing and exploding through them. It was wise for Carey to display other elements of her approach, but sometimes excessive spirit is preferable to an absence of passion. http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf300/f335/f33580d6i1l.jpg Daydream (Oct 3, 1995) 4.5 Stars Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine Mariah Carey certainly knows how to construct an album. Positioning herself directly between urban R&B with tracks like "Fantasy," and adult contemporary with songs like "One Sweet Day," a duet with Boyz II Men, Carey appeals to both audiences equally because of the sheer amount of craft and hard work she puts into her albums. Daydream is her best record to date, featuring a consistently strong selection of songs and a remarkably impassioned performance by Carey. A few of the songs are second-rate — particularly the cover of Journey's "Open Arms" — but Daydream demonstrates that Carey continues to perfect her craft and that she has earned her status as an R&B/pop diva.
March 12, 200718 yr Author I prefer Music Box to Daydream, it has Hero, Anytime You Need A Friend & Without You
March 13, 200718 yr I prefer Music Box to Daydream, it has Hero, Anytime You Need A Friend & Without You  So do I. Daydream isn't far behind though.
March 18, 200718 yr I think most of the albums on that list are UTTER $h!t and biased in my opinion. Mariah deserves to be in the top 40, so does Britney I mean how can an album that has sold 26 million worldwide not be definitive?!?
March 18, 200718 yr Author You know what these music people are like, it's all about the old c**p they like :(
April 2, 200718 yr i have a book ^_^ '1001 albums you must hear before you die' Mariah's 'Rainbow' and 'Butterfly' are included
