Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has revealed all about a possible collaboration between Matt Helders and Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding.

Speaking exclusively to NME.COM at this year's Shockwaves NME Awards, Turner joked that studio time was already booked.

He said: "Sarah and Helders are going to do a collaboration. We've booked studio time. It's going to be a bit electronic.

"They'd have good single covers. He'd have a white shirt on and a pencil tie. Probably not a pencil tie... They could have a good look."

Turner also revealed that they had planned to dress up in fancy dress for our awards, recreating their BRIT acceptance speeches, but decided against it at the last minute.

He said: "We were gonna dress up and turn up as the Village People but Cookie (Jamie Cook) bottled it. He was like: 'No I wanna wear my new cardie'."

Turner also revealed that he wasn't entirely sure where the Brian character from new single 'Brianstorm' came from.

He said: "I don't know if he were in my imagination or not. It's a black spot..."

Meanwhile for the moment when Arctic Monkeys and Girls Aloud came face to face at this year's awards get this week's issue of NME, on UK newsstands from tomorrow (March 7) for an exclusive interviews and pictures of both bands.

You DO know it's a joke, right?

Yes. I do think it would be quite a cool partnership though! :o But yeah, I dount it's gonna happen in the near future at least.

I saw this posted somewhere else and it sounded like it was going to happen :o But this report makes it clear it's a joke, which is a shame :(

I read it somewhere else as well and i've gotta admit that I believed it! :o  It's quite a believeable thing, because of the when The Arctics covered Love Machine and Girls Aloud were fans of it and everything.

I can't find the clip itself on youtube but well here's a link to the drunken announcement by Alex.

 Thanks for posting :P

 Hopefully it's only a joke because even though it could be good it would probably be c**p, however if it was a duet with Sugababes I wouldn't object to that.

I reckon AM would more likely go for one with Girls Aloud because of the shock-factor and you think it really wouldn't work, even though a collaboration with Sugababes would sound more plausible

That's quite a good point actually and having said that despite me being an indie fan and being a fan of Sugababes more than Girls Aloud a lot of indie fans do prefer Girls Aloud based on the fact they have a much more electronic sound than Sugababes.

Well duets with Girls Aloud and Sugababes would both be very different.

A duet with GA would have more of a pop edge to it, compared to a duet with Sugababes which would have more of a rock edge to it. Both duets would be very different because of the voices of all of them within the respective bands. But well I don't think either duets will be happening in the near future, and if either of them did eventually happen, knowing the stir that the Dizzee Rascal duet has made, I imagine there will be a lot of fans that won't be best pleased.

Girl's Aloud's Sarah Harding may feature on the next Arctic Monkeys album, frontman Alex Turner has revealed.

In an interview with NME Turner said: "I'm finding less and less to say. I'm writing as a frontman, right, so I'm thinking, third album, we'll just get Sarah Harding to front the band.

"I'll sing some of the old songs to keep the hardcore happy and then all the new tunes can just be her."

The Arctic Monkeys recently surprised fans at a gig by performing a cover version of Girls Aloud's track 'Love Machine'.

The bands first met at the Q Awards last year and apparently got on extremely well.

I Seen This Reported in the Sun Too :o

I personally think Alex might be shaggin her :o

That's because, unrightly so, alot of music fans have a one-track mind, so Indie is Indie etc. They only like that thing and nothing else gets a chance

But tbh, if it's decent it's decent, if it's not I'll agree with them

That is exactly my view.

If true I'll go into this with an open mind, as I do with any song, record and act. If Westlife were to release a really great single (I know it's not likely ) then I will say I like it, in the same way that I dislike some of the music that my favourite acts have come up with over the years (Beatles, David Bowie, Kate Bush, etc).

Sarah Harding's response:

GIRLS ALOUD singer SARAH HARDING has laughed off reports she is collaborating with rockers the ARCTIC MONKEYS on the band's third album. Last week (ends23MAR07) frontman ALEX TURNER suggested bringing Harding into the four-piece's line up, telling British music magazine the NME, "I'm finding less and less to say. "I'm writing as a frontman, so I'm thinking, 'Third album, we'll just get Sarah Harding to front the band!' Harding blames her own booze-induced ranting for perpetuating the musical myth - but admits it would be "an honour" to sing with the group. She says, "Of course we're not doing a bloody album together. I can't believe everyone's making so much of it. Everyone who interviews me now wants to know if we're collaborating. It was a joke. "Seriously, the stuff I said at the NME Awards (in February) was just slightly pissed ranting. It would be an honour to sing with them. I'm not sure what their fans would think about it though."

It's not really the first time stuff like this has been touted, I remember back in the early 90s, the Manic Street Preachers wanted Kylie to sing "Little Baby Nothing" with them... They weren't well known then, it was their first album, so they had to make do with Traci Lords instead... I heard a few years later that Kylie wished she had taken them up on their offer, especially as she had duetted with Nick Cave....

Is it generally a good idea though...? I dunno, I mean, if it's done for the right reasons as in the Kylie/Cave collaboration (which certainly was not done on a whim or 'just for a laugh', Cave had specific reasons for choosing Kylie for "Where The Wild Roses Grow", it was as part of a concept album) or with the UNKLE collaborations with the likes of Thom Yorke and Richard Ashcroft, etc, or Chemical Brothers with Beth Orton and Noel Gallagher, or Orbital and David Gray, then it can be incredibly effective; the problems start to arise when everyone and their dog starts doing it and it just becomes common...
