Posted March 11, 200718 yr While you're waiting for JK & Joel you can hear the new Irish chart show online this afternoon between 3 and 4 at http://www.rte.ie/2fm/
March 11, 200718 yr Author There are a few changes though I actually just meant that the new chart would be announced (badly worded on my part). For many years the chart show occupied various timeslots on the weekend schedule - up to 1990 it was between 1 and 3 on a Sunday. It then went to Saturdays until around 9 years ago when they switched it to Friday evenings where it remained until last week (with a short period between 2 and 4 on Friday afternoons). Until that move in 1998 it was presented by Irish broadcasting legend Larry Gogan. Now, following a major revamp of the schedule Larry has moved from weekdays to weekends and has been handed back the chart show. Unlike the UK where the chart is handled by a couple of no-marks in their 20s Larry is in his 60s and is still presenting on the countries main pop station (2FM would be the equivalent of Radio 1 in the UK)
March 11, 200718 yr So you have a presenter who actually knows what he's on about? I remember those times
March 11, 200718 yr Author Its a lot better than the last guy they had - Rick O'Shea! I listened in to the last couple of weeks of his show and he made JK & Joel look professional. He started of what was a Top 40 show by playing Justin Timberlake who was at 19 and then worked his way up the chart not even mentioning the positions of anything he didn't play. There was no countdown, he claimed that Mika was no 1 for a 7th week when it was only a 5th (may have been its 7th week on the chart) and he was misqueing the jingles.
March 11, 200718 yr Author Too long! :) He even said live on air that he didn't want to be doing it! Nice start anyway - a track from Arcade Fire - no 1 on the album chart - and then a track from the no 1 compilation.
March 11, 200718 yr Author I'm listening now! The guy just said Casada He seems to get certain acts slightly wrong - I remember he used to always talk about the Progidy! :)

The age of the presenter should be irrelevant when it comes to counting down the UK's No.1 chart show. It should be about good presentation and having someone who does their research and knows what they're talking about.
