It has to be Emma Peel (Dame Diana Rigg) she was miles better than Purdey (Joanna Lumley).

Obviously sad news about Gareth "1980s Nescafe coffee adverts" Hunt yesterday who was also famous for his part in the 1970s show Upstairs Downstairs and whom younger BJ members may recall via his part in Eastenders in 2001 playing Ritchie Stringer, a crime boss who was an unlikely suspect in the shooting of Phil Mitchell.

Although I also remember him for playing many parts in the Pet Shop Boys dodgy 1988 movie "It Couldn't Happen Here".

I love The Avengers, the ones with Emma Peel though.

I remember seeing this episode years ago where the walls were closing in on Steed, and he managed to get out with his hair still perfect lol.

Emma Peel was the best, imo :)

shame about Gareth Hunt :(

I dont even have to think about this - it will always be the divine Emma Peel/Diana Rigg..... (let's just forget about that fukkin' GODAWFUL film where Uma Thurman attempted to reprise the role... <_< ), the on-screen chemistry between Rigg and MacNee was simply fantastic, that was when The Avengers was truly at its best...

I was watching The Avengers in the summer of 1966. Interesting show.
