April 9, 200718 yr Author I don't understand why they can't sell there stories. Would seem a good idea to me.
April 9, 200718 yr But they're making money out of it which is unfair on those who have been through other ordeals who haven't been allowed to. :(
April 9, 200718 yr I don't understand why they can't sell there stories. Would seem a good idea to me. It's sleazy, nasty and extremely disrespectful to the young lives who have been wasted in this disgusting war, not to mention their relatives, for these individuals to make money out of something like this..... You want a better argument against...? I have lost all respect and sympathy for these individuals now, how fukkin' DARE they. <_< Yes, they've been stopped, good, but it seems to me that it's purely the public outcry against it that made the MOD change its mind rather than any sense of morality....
April 9, 200718 yr Author It seems to me anyone should be allowed to put there side of the story. I don't see it as immoral or disrespectful, in fact the reverse, if they can't put there story they are being gagged or worse the public is being denied information that it really deserved to be informed about. Much prefer they are interviewed then not, even if they are getting money for it. Perhaps they should do the interviews but not take the money? Hostages from the past have sold there stories written books, been in chat shows etc. Terry Waite, John McCarthy spring to mind. No one complained about that. So I don't really understand the problem here to be honest.
April 9, 200718 yr I think they should be allowed to sell their stories, but any money received should just go straight to charity ^_^

Hostages from the past have sold there stories written books, been in chat shows etc. Terry Waite, John McCarthy spring to mind. No one complained about that. So I don't really understand the problem here to be honest. Well, you pretty much answered the question yourself as to why there were no objections in the cases you mentioned - Terry Waite for one certainly never took a penny for himself out of any interviews he gave... I would have no objections if this lot weren't trying to cash in either... And also it is important to note that when Terry Waite and John McCarthy were telling their stories there weren't young British soldiers getting their legs blown off in desert hellholes where they should never have been sent in the first place every few days, and there wasn't a full-scale invasion going on in the region with tens of thousands being slaughtered.... BIG difference mate.... And if you cant see that there is a difference, then you are a fool... Sorry for being so blunt, but I really have no tolerance for this sort of thing, people trying to make money when others are dying and suffering, it makes me fukkin' sick.... <_< Just what the hell makes these b/astards think their story is any more important than all the other soldiers out there who are just trying to make the best of the catastrophically bad situation that they've been dumped in by our Govt, and get on with their jobs and try to avoid being bloody well killed or blown up every day.....? What makes them think that their story is more important than an Iraqi civilian who has had his entire family murdered by the US and British bombing....? Fukkin' arrogance.... <_< Is a bit of humility and dignity too much to bloody ask in this day and age..? Why is everyone looking to cash in these days...?
April 9, 200718 yr I think they should be allowed to sell their stories, but any money received should just go straight to charity ^_^ Problem is they haven't said that this was their intention, hence my total opposition to it...
April 10, 200718 yr I don't understand why they can't sell there stories. Would seem a good idea to me. the relatives of the dead are insensed by it. its insulting .
April 10, 200718 yr the relatives of the dead are insensed by it. its insulting . 100% Truth mate... People making money while others are out there dying is just disgusting.... <_< You just cannot compare it to Terry Waite and John McCarthy. At all...
April 11, 200718 yr Author the relatives of the dead are insensed by it. its insulting . Why are they incensed? What has been said to cause that?
April 11, 200718 yr Why are they incensed? What has been said to cause that? erm... it aint rocket science m8...
April 11, 200718 yr Looks like the defence secretary is holding up his hand here, he allowed them to do it, now he's stopped it. Typical Noo Labour c**k up
April 11, 200718 yr I was absolutely amazed that they were allowed to sell their stories in the first place. This whole business has been a total mess up. Doesn't anyone in authority have any common sense at all
April 11, 200718 yr erm... it aint rocket science m8... My thoughts exactly.... The propaganda piece in todays "Scum" just made me wanna vomit tbh..... Christ, they go on about how this woman was taken away from her daughter for 13 days by the "nasty Iranians", well, I reckon her career as a bloody SAILOR IN THE SODDING ROYAL NAVY might just keep them apart slightly longer than a couple of weeks, what do you think......? Oh, and why no moral outrage by the Tabloids over the illegally interned prisoners in Guantanamo Bay and Bellmarsh prison who have been similarly denied access to family and loved ones for a DAMN SIGHT LONGER THAN A SODDING FORTNIGHT!!!!!!! <_< <_< Still without charge or any likelihood of a fair and open trial in an open court of law..... Christ, even Saddam got treated a bit better than these poor sods....
April 11, 200718 yr This whole business has been a total mess up. Doesn't anyone in authority have any common sense at all  No, they dont is the short answer Tilly.... And yes, the whole thing has been handled atrociously..... There has never been a case where an active member of the armed forces has been allowed to 'sell' their story to a bloody Tabloid, a few have broken ranks and given opinion pieces, but they dont generally profit from those.... These people have to sign the Official Secrets Act you know.... My cousin was a member of the armed forces, he quit after doing one tour of duty in Iraq, after proudly serving his country in the Balkans and Kosovo, he got sick of it all - the lies and the bullsh!t, and resigned his commission as a Leiuetenant.....What he could tell the Tabloids could fill a bloody book.... the size of the Bible..... But of course he wont go to the press, because as much as he absolutely despises this Govt and Tony B-Liar and the army chiefs, he still actually has some respect for the institution of the armed forces (which i personally believe is misplaced, and we've argued about it, but I respect his decision...), unlike these others.... I am frankly sick of seeing these gits plastered all over the fukkin' media when there are thousands of other soldiers out there dodging bullets and car bombs on a daily fukkin' basis just about...... Yeah, you got an enforced furlough in Iran for a couple of weeks guys, now shut the fukk up about it and get on with your bloody jobs, like all your fellow military personnel manage to do without making a fuss..... <_<
April 12, 200718 yr she took herself away..it was her chosen career and she knew the risks. Exactly, she could get killed in a bloody 'friendly fire' incident just as easily as anything, like those two guys who got killed by that Yank pilot... God knows that happens often enough.... She's so concerned about being with her daughter, quit and get a 9 to 5 on civvie street, simple as.....
