Posted April 15, 200619 yr which do you prefer, for me it's the pistols. Even though i adore both bands the pistols were just raw punk, they were the ones to set the bar, to break and lay down the rules. Even though The Clash did this as well they didn't have the same impact as the pistols. so who do you like best?
April 15, 200619 yr Sex Pistols!! Because i don't really like the clash, they okay but i dont get bored listening to sex pistols. Edited April 15, 200619 yr by Mrs Armstrong
April 16, 200619 yr I like both - but if I had to chose I would have to say the Clash because they developed musically & artistically from their first album. While the Sex Pistols were affectively a one album wonder.
April 16, 200619 yr The Sex Pistols were a raw blast of energy, but The Clash developed Punk both musically and politically to a degree that The Pistols were not capable of; The Clash introduced Reggae rhythms and song structures to UK music and were far more Politically sussed, and "London Calling" was Punk's ultimate statement. Strummer was a better songwriter, although Lydon went onto forming the quite marvellous Public Image Limited.... So, to answer the question - The Clash....
April 16, 200619 yr i prefered the pistols music, though the clash were musically superior. both very influential..

April 16, 200619 yr ...... i prefered PIL to both.... :) PiL weren't strictly speaking Punk though mate.... And the things that Strummer and Co had already done definitely gave Lydon an idea or two of how to progress.... PiL were pretty fukkin' marvellous though...
April 18, 200619 yr PiL weren't strictly speaking Punk though mate.... ... ............ and? i was just making the point that i prefer pil to the pistols or clash... that riff on 'public image ltd' has to be one of the best ever, plus that brilliant bassline. 'flowers of romance' might just pip it though as my fav.
April 20, 200619 yr PiL weren't strictly speaking Punk though mate.... Well if you have read some of the reviews for the new Charlatans album you will get the impression that the Clash were not strictly punk either. dub and reggae?!?!?!? :o

While the Sex Pistols were affectively a one album wonder. i thought there was only one album by the sex pistols (and loads and loads of compilations) however its hard to decide between them as viewing them from now rather than knowing them from when they were releasing albums, they just seem the same. and thats without getting into the whole sex pistols are a manufactured pop act debate that has been said on many historical shows by Malcolm McClaren
April 20, 200619 yr Author Clash were not strictly punk either. dub and reggae?!?!?!? :o Well they were punk with there first few albums but then went on to do dub and reggae.

Soon after that was released Johnny Rotten left the band effectivley ending The Pistols. McClaern then decided to release other records with bits of the Never Mind The Bollocks album and new recordings with Sid Vicious and other members of the band on vocals. It had the pistols's name, but it wasn't the pistols ;)
