Russt..... I'm feeling you big time! (Not in the physical sense, of course!...)

Off the top of my head:

Shakira - Hips Don't Lie (a truly vile record made even worse by that tit Wyclef Jean, and speak of the devil...)

Wyclef Jean - Perfect Gentlemen

NickelCACK - How You Remind Me (insipid Canadian dirge!)

Toploader - Dancing In The Moonlight (Very possibly the most uncoolest band of all time?)

Robbie Williams - Angels

Robbie Williams - Rock DJ

Robbie Williams - Supreme

Robbie Williams - Old Before I Die

Robbie Williams - Rude Box

Robbie Williams - Something Beautiful (OK you get the picture...)

Dario G - Sunschyme

Ian Van Dhal - Castles In The Sky

Eminem - Mockingbird

Akon - Lonely (Are you surprised?)

Chumbawamba - Tubbthumping

Anastacia - Left Outside Alone (EVIL woman!)

Avril Lavigne - Complicated

i can understand people not liking robbie williams, but were his tracks really worse then tellytubbies?

'cpmlicated' was a teen anthem, a well scripted pop track

ps.... although i broadly agree with these choices most are not 'retro' in the sense that this forum deals with 'real' retro and not so much recent stuff... to us old buggers ten years ago was yesterday, not a lifetime ago like it appears to youngies!

Sorry there mate, yes I did tail off the actual concept of this forum! It's one of those questions that, well, once I start I cannot stop! I have had a deep hatred for Robbie and his insipid nausiating music for many years - I would MUCH rather suffer The Teletubbies! More on the retro sense, here are some more suitable choices...

James - Sit Down

Proclaimers - 500 Miles (thank you charity, I'm now reminded once again of how bloody annoying this is!)

Queen - Don't Stop Me Now (I quite simply HATE this record!)

Spice Girls - Mama

Stevie Wonder - I Just Called To Say I Love You

oh god yes!... stevie wonder 'i just called to say i love you'... how could anybody who created brilliant soul tracks like 'uptight (everythings alright)' and 'i was made to love her' come up with sutch utter garbage?... *hmm... i think theres an idea for a new thread*...lol

Yes, "scripted", you said it mate.... Bloody "Angst-by-numbers" rubbish... Yeah, well done Avril, you heard a couple of Nine Inch Nails and Nirvana albums, but clearly DIDNT FUKKIN' WELL ACTUALLY LISTEN PROPERLY did you??????? <_<

she was 18.... pretty good for one so young and knocks the pants of other teenage angst ridden bints... like toyah! thats who you should be comparing her with, not nin.

No, I think I'd rather listen to "It's A Mystery" or "I Want To Be Free" than "Complicated" or "Sk8er Boi" :)

lol spoken like a true retro fan! ... :P

i dont like sk8er boi, but avril is the real thing, toyah was an actress. besides she was 24 when she sang 'i want to be free', which is supposed to be teenage angst...

I don't think Avril is the real thing though!

I believe she was a country and western fan but was forced to sing the stuff she did because it would appeal to 'the kids'.

It worked of course!

far more convincing then a middle class actress woman trying to be a schoolkid though m8!

Toyah's only middle class now (thanks to big baldy Fripp man).... then she was pretty hip...ok, her poppy singles were dire - but her earlier punkier stuff was great.

Oh, and Thunder in the Mountains is still a pop masterpiece ("there's a motorway - huh? It's a monument"... classically awful lyric)

she was 18.... pretty good for one so young and knocks the pants of other teenage angst ridden bints... like toyah! thats who you should be comparing her with, not nin.

And Irish band Ash were 17 when they did their first album "1977", (with a mini-album called "Trailer" which was recorded when the band were 15... )And it WAS an actual 'alternative' rock album, not some fake-ass sh!t, which stood up pretty well in comparison to the likes of "Nevermind" or "Gish", so age isn't even a factor mate... Tim Wheeler even then was acres ahead of Avril sodding Laveigne in terms of songwriting ability... Her bloody "Disney Club" Pop Punk is just plain irritating at best.... Have you seen her new video?? GAWD, it's awful...... She's turned into some foul-mouthed, vacuous bimbo $l*t who's basically encouraging teenage girls to go out and chuck themselves at the nearest bloke they see, and if they're already going out with someone..?? So what, split them up.... Yeah, that's a real good role-model.... <_< If this was Paris Hilton doing that song and that video, targeting a young audience, you'd be outraged....

As for Toyah, well, as a kid I sorta liked her, but I can kinda see where you;re coming from.... Wasn't the whole 'acting' thing after her Pop career though....?

Yeah, she's "keeping it real" isn't she...? <_< I never really used to mind her that much before, although I was never a fan, I could accept that what she was doing was for the kids, but looking at the way she's acting now, I detest her, I think she's doing her teenage fans a major dis-service. She's just become some empty-headed, vapid whore like Paris Hilton or X-Tina.... <_<

it would appear so.... however the avril bit was about 'complicated' more then her in general and besides SHE AINT RETRO :)

as for ash... they have yet to produce something that i like, i dont 'like' tracks/artists to be cool or politically correct or even because they are technically good musicians. i like tracks by whoever, whatever, if i like it, i like it! and i think 'complicated' was a decent enough pop track for what it was.

Ash have written some fantastic tunes mate, I dunno what's not to like, they're probably one of the least pretentious bands out there, they've never really tried to be 'cool' or 'PC', or be anything other than what they were, an honest bunch of lads writing good Rock music, they listened to what bands like Nirvana were doing and did their own thing with it... Avril is just a big ole faker, and she's been caught out...

whats not to like is simple m8, the tune either strikes a chord with me or it doesnt! ok maybe i was a little harsh on ash, i do find some of their releases ok. as for avril... shes better then most of her genre, faker?... who isnt in that area of pop!

i can understand people not liking robbie williams, but were his tracks really worse then tellytubbies?

cant really compare the two as its different genres different markets, and ones a novelty (let you work out which one )

most of it is personal taste. if you dont like one band you dont like one band. full stop.

however i think this might be oneof the worst songs ever made. It is called Don't You Want Me Bay and it is shckingly bad.

Now why Have i voted this as one of the worst records of all time? because obv the quality has slipped!!! and its rubbish.

on the other hand this is great!!!

and the (non-pop) electronica of The Black Hit of Space and esp WXJL Tonight are some of the most-modern-futurist new things that i've heard recently. Tahnk you NME for telling me about this album!!!!

Btw there is a 'general music area' for stuff like this called the Culture Box if you all (apart from Russ, Richie etc etc ) forgot

i think there is a strong crossover between retro and culture, very similar acts can be posted in both..

yeah man, thats the general idea, but just in case your worried its getting to much 1997

If she's gonna be Pop, then be Pop, she shouldn't be coming all over "ooh, look at how 'alternative' I am...." and then do all the "Disney Club" pop punk. Aint got time for that, really don't... Not that she's the only one guilty of that I suppose, My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy are another bunch of similar fakes I have no time for either.... Ash just did what they did and were never really all that concerned with image....

as far as im concerned she didnt come across all alternative.... she was always pop..

i recall a totp appearance where she played and sang live, solo... which is more then madonna the mimer did a couple of tracks later!.... nope, whatever you beef with her, to me shes ok or was.. (think shes lost it now)
