then where is our identity? and how disreaspectful it would be to the lads that fought for the freedom we now enjoy. wouldnt omitting history be propaganda anyway? how can you have a society with no roots? and dont you think that schools would be the best place to learn history? they would be the most unbiased unlike some book or tv show.
Teaching in schools has great limitation due to the nature of having to work to a pre-defined standards with standard text book and material working towards a standard examination. Is it disrespectful to omit history, maybe. Clearly there is so much history your going to omit so much anyway.

although there isnt any black people in my class and theres only about 4 in the whole of my year but i doubt theyd be ofended

as a nation we are what we are due to what our ancestors did or didnt do, i think its imperative that the salient points in history are taught, otherwise we will slowly lose our identity.

 

history is important, its everywhere, our language, personal names, place names, the roads/paths we use, the countryside, the very land we all live on and use ... us here now are here due to history.

I agree, Rob, it's important that our children know how we got to where we are today. We can all learn something from the past.
