Posted April 16, 200619 yr The following songs all got to #1 for 3 weeks or more, and I hate everyone of them what about you, is there any you would exclude from this, or any others you would love to add. Its hard to believe they even got into the upper reaches of the chart never mind getting to #1. What kind of person buys this sort of stuff. I think all of them should be put into room 101. Tony Orlando & Dawn - Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree (#1 for 4 wks) Scaffold - Lily the pink (4) Rolf Harris - Two little boys (6) Middle of the road - Chirpy Chirpy Cheep cheep (5) Charles Aznavour - She (4) Brotherhood of Man - Save your kisses for me (6) Wings - Mull of Kintyre (9) Brian & Michael - Matchstalk men & cats & dogs (3) Goombay dance band - Seven tears (3) Musical Youth - Pass the dutcie (3) Rene & Renato - Save your love (4) Flying Pickets - Only you (5) Partners in Kryme - Turtle Power (4) Bombalurina(Timmy bloody Mallett) - Itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini (3)
April 16, 200619 yr Charles Aznavour - She (4) Belgium! still big in France even at 80 (mum and dad are big fans got his stuff on LP from the 70s) part of the chanzon tradition that's popular in France and the non-Flemish Walooni parts of the Belgium kingdom. think he should be listed with people like Jacks Brel and Serge Gainsbourg who, of course are ultra trendy, especially serge. the guardian did a thing about him yesterday being a drunken arsehole, wanting to **** whitney houston and calling the lead singer of rita miskow a slag

Bucks Fizz - "Makin' Your Mind Up" - With you there Rob..... Actually Pulp's Common People was a hit in 95, a year later. Love Is All Around was No.1 in the summer of 94. All-4-One's I Swear was in the unfortunate position of being kept at No.2 by the Wets. Edited April 16, 200619 yr by Mark
April 17, 200619 yr I would save from room 101: Tony Orlando & Dawn - Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree (Knock Three Times was far worse & it kept Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar & Paul McCartney's Another Day from topping the chart) Rolf Harris - Two little boys (Rolf is a legend - if Kate Bush likes him, then so do I) Wings - Mull of Kintyre (OK so it stopped Queen's We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You off the top but check out the B-side Girls School - that rocks!) Retro #1s from the 1970s that I would add to Room 101 would be: Wand'rin Star - Lee Marvin (1970) - it stopped the Beatles final single "Let It Be" topping the chart. Grandad - Clive Dunn (1971) - "Don't Panic, Don't Panic" more like do panic if you hear this awful piece of music which kept T-Rex's Ride A White Swan off the top of the charts. Puppy Love - Donny Osmond (1972) - As sickly as eating 12 easter eggs. If - Telly Savalas (1975) - More like "Why???" "Who loves ya baby?" - No one will after this spoken cover of Bread's stateside hit. One Day At A Time - Lena Martell (1979) - Awful generic religious country rot.
April 17, 200619 yr Shaddup Yo Face definately deserves to go into Room 101 for keeping Vienna off the No.1 slot. And i'd add My Blobby, Bob The Builder and the Teletubbies too. Awful!
April 17, 200619 yr Rolf Harris - Two little boys (Rolf is a legend - if Kate Bush likes him, then so do I) That song is actually older than Rolf himself- it was originally recorded in 1903!
April 17, 200619 yr Didn't you say that you bought that....  oops... i thought it said 'which #1's do you hate but secretly like'.... pmsl... i musta been drunk!
April 18, 200619 yr I would also add the truely awful Doop to the list which kept Streets Of Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen at No.2 in 1994.
April 18, 200619 yr Maybe not so much retro, but Fatman Scoop - Be Faithful is the worst song ever to me. Words can't describe how much I hate that.

I think Joe Dolce gets too much blame! His song wasn't the only one that kept Vienna from the top... it was John Lennon too!

April 19, 200619 yr Aye, Robson and Jerome kept Pulp off number one if I recall...so all three of their gash number 1s can be added. I happen to really like Renee and Renato...a lovely song with a ludicrous video. I think it would be quicker to come up with a list of number ones that I actually liked though!
