Posted April 4, 200718 yr I'm a Satanist.... (silence) No, seriously, I am..... But it's not the stereotypical, "sacrificing goats/virgins/rabbits", dancing around in robes, silly rituals, shagging in graveyards, drawing pentagrams and just generally acting like a t/wat way..... No, the word "Satan" actually derives from an old Hebrew word which basically means "the opposer".... It is not specifically anything to do with "devil worship" or any of that rubbish, all one must be to actually be a "Satanist" is to be an "opposer" of the hypocritical Judeo-Christian value system it would seem.... Or of religion in general really.... And anyway, seeing as how "the devil" is basically just a construct of Christianity anyway - the Christian "bogey-man" in many ways - then surely worship of "the devil" is basically just buying into the whole Judeo-Christian belief system/theory anyway. So, to be a proper Satanist, you reject BOTH God and the Devil.... So, "Satanist" is, in effect, just another term (well, probably the original term in fact..) for 'atheist'....
April 4, 200718 yr hmmm... I'm an atheist.. I don't believe in any God or Devil.. But I prefer the term- atheist than Satanist
April 4, 200718 yr hmmmmm God & the devil - a good way to start a heated discussion that ends up offending someone. I doubt I can contribute without offending or being offended but claiming to be a Satanist is open to misinterpretation by 99% of lay people ........ so I should stick with atheist ;)
April 4, 200718 yr Author claiming to be a Satanist is open to misinterpretation by 99% of lay people ........ so I should stick with atheist ;) Well, yeah, that's very true, which is why I'm reclaiming it from all those p***-ant, teenage "Devil Worshippers" who are totally corrupting the original meaning of the word "Satan"....  It's all Anton La Vey's fault if you ask me.....
April 5, 200718 yr Author Then what's the proper term for a "devil" worshipper? Well...... "Devil Worshipper" I suppose....  Dunno what's improper about that... My point is, that the word "Satan" is being misused, and has been for thousands of years... Anton La Vey comes up with his "Satanic Bible", and the connection to "the devil" then becomes indelible, almost taken for granted... But it is NOT the correct term - "Satan" is not the "devil", the "devil" is the fallen angel - Lucifer, who fell from grace.... therefore, a "devil worshipper" should really be called a "Luciferian", a follower of Lucifer.... "Satan" merely means "opposer", it has no specific reference to Lucifer or "the devil".... La Vey was quite, quite wrong in naming his book "The Satanic Bible" and then to connect it to his brand of 'Lucifer-worship'...
April 5, 200718 yr Then why does the bible refer to him as Satan at times? I guess they are referring to him as the one who opposes?
April 5, 200718 yr im athiest, or satanist by this definition... but i dont believe in the devil for one nano second!
April 5, 200718 yr Author Then why does the bible refer to him as Satan at times? I guess they are referring to him as the one who opposes? The word is ancient Hebrew, it pre-dates The Bible, Christianity, etc, it was a term already in existence. Still, not the first time this bloody religion has appropriated something for its own ends is it...? "Christmas", "Halloween" "All-Saints Day", etc.... Lucifer is "satan" in the sense that he opposes God's will, but that's about it... To use a modern example, it would be like referring to Osama Bin Laden as ALL "terrorists" as opposed to just calling him A "terrorist".... Hope you get what I'm meaning by that....
April 5, 200718 yr Author im athiest, or satanist by this definition... but i dont believe in the devil for one nano second! Me neither mate... I just read this somewhere, and it was like...Hang on..!! If this word just means "the opposer" and existed as a term before, how the hell did it come to specifically refer to Lucifer/the devil......? I was always under the impression that "Satan" was a given name..., but that doesn't seem to be the case... Anton La Vey certainly didn't help matters when he came along with his "Satanic Bible".... He really should have called it "The Luciferian Bible".....
April 5, 200718 yr LOL. Grimly fiendish is right... Satan is not a particular name, it´s an adjective, as is Devil, and other words oftenly used to describe the immaginary horned monster that is the "evil god" that will sent people to a place full of fire, etc etc etc... It´s not a name, it´s an adjective. Jesus has refered to one of his apostles as a "devil" because he betrayed him... In other passage when the apostle Peter is tryng to convince Jesus to escape his sacrifice, Jesus says the famous phrase "get behind me SATAN", wow, he was not using the word Satan to refer a mitological horned monster, but one of his own chosen disciples.
April 5, 200718 yr Then what's the proper term for a "devil" worshipper? Acording to christianity anyone who does not serve God is a devil worshiper, there´s no mid-term, a well educated atheist and an ignorant ritualistic satanist are devil worshipers the same way.

April 5, 200718 yr Author great now i have to spend all my time explaining to you why being a Catholic is so great http://www.jojoboards.com/images/smiles/burial.gif i love being who i am including my religion but i hate the fact that we have to agree to EVERYTHING the catholic church says. which i dont..... This thread isn't really anything to do with being a Catholic though... I'm merely righting a total falsehood concerning the term "Satan".... But, frankly, I've never seen anything great about being a Catholic, or the Catholic Church, which I view as a wholly corrupt institution which preys upon people's insecurities and creates emotional cripples... All this c**p about "original sin" and being "born of sin" is just complete and utter tosh....
April 5, 200718 yr Author Acording to christianity anyone who does not serve God is a devil worshiper, there´s no mid-term, a well educated atheist and an ignorant ritualistic satanist are devil worshipers the same way. Which is why I believe that Christianity is wholly ignorant....
April 6, 200718 yr All this c**p about "original sin" and being "born of sin" is just complete and utter tosh.... Yeah, wouldn´t it be so much nicer if they just told us what we want to hear...
April 6, 200718 yr Yeah, wouldn´t it be so much nicer if they just told us what we want to hear... but the church does tell you what you want to hear, but you have to conform on your knees to get it! there is no life after death, no happy ever after, nothing, so why spend all your lives on extremely dubious doctrines that dont hold up 1 itoa to scientific scrutiny planning for the afterlife instead of ridding yourselves from the shackles of religion and living life as a free thinking human being?. you and i are going to die... live with that fact.
