Posted April 6, 200718 yr Almost EVERY commercial dance track is a cover or samples some 80's song, theres nothing original. Even when a song isnt a cover its still got the usual sluts all over the music video.
April 6, 200718 yr That was the question I asked not so long ago mate.... How can it go from The Prodigy, KLF, Underworld, Faithless and Chemical Brothers, etc (and YES, those acts are examples of "commercial" dance when you take into account the MILLIONS of album sales and high chart placings for all these acts concerned..) to all this bloody "covers" bollocks.... <_< Some people claim the genre has 'evolved'... Bollocks it has, how can it be 'evolution' to go from total originality and being forward-looking, to ripping off stuff from the past.... It would be a bit like us humans going from what we are now to being cavemen...

I agree, 90% of the latest dance tracks consist of a few words of some random 80's dance hit looped with half dressed or less sluts for the video to draw in the chavs, same goes for the Cascada, Infernal all they do is cheap, tacky and what a surprise 90% of the time covers then produce a slag filled video.
April 7, 200718 yr The sex bit in videos is not so much about the genre but purely a (shameful) sign if the times that music has become so much more image based, which I will agree is wrong. However, when you use the word 'commercial' - by meaning c**p-produced cover versions (Cascada, FHM Girls, Sunblock et al) - the sort of records that are geared PURELY to bit shoved on The Box and sell records and have no relevance to the club scene, then yes I do agree with you. BUT then theres those tracks that have their roots in the club scene (Mason, Fedde Le Grand/Camille Jones, Bodyrox, Alex Gaudino...) which have crossed over in a major way. I'm fully aware these vidoes use sex to shift further units, but regardless of the videos - they are truly great tracks!

How can it go from The Prodigy, KLF, Underworld, Faithless and Chemical Brothers, etc (and YES, those acts are examples of "commercial" dance when you take into account the MILLIONS of album sales and high chart placings for all these acts concerned..) the klf's records dont sound that great from what i've heard. they are the proto-scooter with out the funny accents. however i suppose they are credible from all those things bill drummond has done like burning money and then putting the reason in a nissan that gets driven off a cliff and i think i read that he organised the tour of scotland in the shapr of bunny ears. those aspects interesting good to read about. the music not so. April 9, 200718 yr Commercial dance never became rubbish it's as excellent now as always. It's just that for promotion purposes covers, samples and things similiar can get to the mass market, large a situation brought about because Radio 1 does not support Dance music as it used to.

Oh come on mate, that is such a crock.... The Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, KLF, Moby, Faithless, Underworld, etc, etc, didn't need to resort to tacky Cover versions to get themselves big hits and sell millions of albums, they managed it by coming up with the CHOOONS MAAAAN!!!! Too much 'marketing strategies' dominate Dance music, and not enough talent.... Simple as.... You know who I actually blame most for this...? Norman fukkin' Cook and his blatant, nasty plagiarism. A bit of discreet, strategically placed sampling is one thing, wholesale sodding thieving is quite another.... He started the rot if you ask me...

I agree, there hasnt been a decent dance tune by a UK artist/group for years now, i have a lot of euro-dance/electro style dance music and even that is becoming increasingly dire, now what people call a dance tune is about 3 or 4 words looped, they all follow the same pattern as well, build up without the beat, add the beat in, take the vocal out for 10-15 seconds, build it back in and call it a decent song, as for the videos its the only way to sell the c**p, get some slags to apear in the video and then make them do their usual whorelike routines, dance music has become cheap, tacky and uses porn basically to sell, even the ones who don't use covers or samples still have the same music videos.
April 10, 200718 yr Oh come on mate, that is such a crock.... The Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, KLF, Moby, Only thing with Moby he is not always pure dance act (remember how Air have been put in the indie section) and i much prefer when he's on a more indie tip: Qdb4NyHdFfE Come To The Grey Area of Buzzjack here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
