well ?...

the late 70's early 80's saw a huge boom in electronically produced pop music, which for some time suppressed guitar based pop (arguably upto the busted mcfly days). but was electronic music just laziness? did it dumb down musicianship? did it remove the long held notion that music should be the formulised pop group aka beatles stylee? was electronically produced music really any good?.

Ooh well done! Exactly the sort of topic that will open up a huge can of worms - they make the best rants!

Well if it wasn't for the birth of electronic-based music, I probably wouldn't even be much interested in music as a rule (nearly everything I listen to is electronic-based/dance music) and even when I have my quilty pleasure moments (thats tasteless SAW trash), thats pure electronic based - and which probably demonstrates the lazy end of how to use electronic music. But then Orbital - I'm sure - utilised electronic music to it's full capacity. So there are just 2 major extremes for you.

I don't think electronic music is any more lazier or difficult then traditional drums and guitars.

Kraftwerk, Can, early Human League, Cabaret Voltaire etc put a hell of a lot more thought into their music than The Sex Pistols, The Ramones etc. who all played little more than power chords but fit the group formula.

Doesn't mean it was better either, but certainly not lazy.

Answer: Both.

Like any genre of music since the birth of Rock'n'Roll their are some ground breaking music created & some uninspired generic $h1te. Synth Pop was no different.
