Posted April 13, 200718 yr Source: NME.com The Libertines reunite at Hackney gig Pete and Carl play 13 Libertines classics The Libertines reunited tonight (April 12) onstage in London. Pete Doherty and Carl Barat played 13 songs at the second of Doherty's An Evening With Pete Doherty gigs at the Hackney Empire. During the second half of the show Doherty teased the audience by saying: "You've been waiting for this moment. Ladies and gentlemen Mr Carlos Barat...only joking! What do you expect for 25 quid?" Then Barat bounded on stage, wearing a Dior Homme suit and a trilby. The duo played 13 Libertines classics, including 'What Katie Did' and 'Time For Heroes'. They whispered and hugged each other in between songs, while during their cover of Mama Cass With The Mamas & The Papas' 'Dream A Little Dream', Barat performed a little tap dancing routine. The duo played song 'Albion', with Barat joining in on vocals. The song was originally considered for The Libertines but was included on Babyshambles 2005 album 'Down In Albion'. Returning for a quick encore, the pair played 'The Delaney', left the stage and then re-emerged triumphantly holding each others hands in the air. However the reunion continued outside the back of the venue. After the show fans shot round to the venue's dressing room windows and managed to convince the pair to reappear. Appropriately enough Doherty and Barat performed an impromptu version of 'Can't Stand Me Now' for the mass of fans, while Doherty's girlfriend Kate Moss watched on. Prior to Barat taking to the stage for the reunion, Doherty played a number of songs solo and with guest Alan Wass and Bert Jansch including 'Killamangiro' and 'Cyclops'. The reunited Libertines played: 'What A Waster' 'Death On The Stairs' 'The Good Old Days' 'What Katie Did' 'Dilly Boys' 'Seven Deadly Sins' 'France' 'Tell The King' 'Don't Look Back Into The Sun' 'Dream A Little Dream Of Me' 'Time For Heroes' 'Albion' 'The Delaney' I'm not getting my hopes for anything more just yet but Oh my god... just as record companies are milking this second wave of brit-pop for all it's worth by pushing bands that sound the same as each other could the ones who got the ball rolling again (and my favourite band of all time) be back to show them how it's done? :o
April 13, 200718 yr The Libertines could have been what The Arctic Monkeys are now becoming, in otherwords the iconic new indie/alternative act of a generation. But thanks to Pete Doherty's drug problems they became a media joke. For me 'Up The Bracket' is a better album than 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' or any other debut album by a British indie Rock Act since 'Definitely Maybe'. While "Don't Look Back Into The Sun" was my favourite song of 2003 and is probably my favourite Indie track of the 21st Century so far. I would dearly, dearly love to see a great 3rd Libertines album, as their 2nd album was an undercooked mediocrity.
April 13, 200718 yr I often think that The Libertines are slightly over-rated and that the lyrics fail to be quite as brilliant as those of Arctic Monkeys but I think it would be great if they could return with a 3rd album and prove me wrong. :D I admit that they do have some great tracks such as 'Don't Look Back In To The Sun,' and 'What Became Of The Likely Lads?' However if they did reform on a permanent basis I don't think they could ever be at the peak of what they're able to do unless Pete gives up drugs and let's be fair about it, it's looking less and less likely all the time and by each day he's just wasting his life away even more.

Apart from what you said about the 2nd album I agree with everything you've said, best band EVER
April 14, 200718 yr The second album did have some dire songs on it but there's not many albums that have as many amazing songs on it though. Can't Stand Me Now, Narcissist, What Katie Did, Music When The Lights Go Out, Arbeit Macht Frei
