Posted April 14, 200718 yr CULTURE BOX: OPINIONS Was unsure where to post this to be honest, but this seems like a good a place as any... Check this out..... Opinions....? oXR4T8xVFdw My own two cents - I find this to be utterly patronising... Christ, it's almost like wagging a finger at you isn't it...? yeah, cos EVERYONE who downloads music is a potential child abuser arent't they...? <_< <_< Fukkin' Corporations... What's the big deal anyway..? Isn't "File Sharing" just the modern equivalent of "making a tape for your mates" like I did back in the day...? I've always copied music, whether for myself or for friends.. Not nearly as much fuss was made about illegal home taping....
April 14, 200718 yr Load of $h!te! I've illegally downloaded music for years and the chances are, I will continue to do so. The music I love isn't played on radio very often and I can't afford to buy everything I want. Artists don't make much money from sale of tracks anyway, the money is to be made from touring. I don't feel at all guilty for going on Soulseek and downloading my favourite current tracks. I downloaded about 12 just yesterday.
April 14, 200718 yr The thing is though the DOWNLOADING of the file isn't what's illegal it's SHARING that's illegal and on Limewire no one can download any files from me but I can download files myself so techincally I'm not breaking the law. :D I always buy the song when it comes out on CD anyway unless I can't find it.
April 14, 200718 yr That's a good point actually. I always get messages saying things like "share your stuff, c*nt". Because that's REALLY going to make me wany to give it to them...
April 14, 200718 yr Bloody terrible advert <_< Acting's terrible, the message is terrible, it's hardly like the musicians are on their last legs when it comes to money, I'm sure they have PLENTY of money to spend when it comes to this so it's hardly robbing the needy...-_- That said, I do purchase the CDs of my favourite bands and musicians who If eel deserve/need the money, however, you won't catch me buying a legal copy of, say, a Paris Hilton album, etc...
April 14, 200718 yr I never share my stuff. :D And that ad is quite funny, "Danny Glover, I'm sad." :(
April 14, 200718 yr I try not to illegally download if there is a legal equivalent on iTunes but of course this is often not the case...I downloaded BWO Chariots of Fire on iTunes today. If it wasn't on there then I would have got it illegally...I'm not waiting for it
April 15, 200718 yr Author I don't even understand that advert. Is it meant to be sarcastic? I think it is.. But they're using 'sarcasm' entirely inappropriately here. Sarcasm, as someone once said, is the "lowest form of wit".. Not true in most cases, but certainly is here, because it aint funny, it's just utterly patronising IMO...
April 15, 200718 yr Awful advert with a patronising message. If the music industry had been more embracing of the new download technology at the turn of the century instead of trying to destroy it or keep their collective heads in the sand ignoring it, then the music industry would not be in the mess that it is in now.
April 15, 200718 yr it wasn't even funny and downloading illegally is nowhere near as bad as punching a baby!! no one punches a baby :o anyway the record companies are spooked they claim they are "losing" money year on year, thats not strictly true....they aren't making as much profit as before, the profit margins aren't as big as they used to be, plus another thing they can't stop sharing music among people, some people may not illegally download or may stop doing it but they can use another option ie getting it from others, so is that bad too? even if that person downloaded it legally? why can't they give it to you since they may have paid for it, what a load of sh!t!! this ad is
April 16, 200718 yr Author Awful advert with a patronising message. If the music industry had been more embracing of the new download technology at the turn of the century instead of trying to destroy it or keep their collective heads in the sand ignoring it, then the music industry would not be in the mess that it is in now. Totally agree mate.. If you ask me, it's all down to that little $h!t Lars Ulrich and Metallica's record company that effectively destoyed Napster as a meaningful online community of music fans. I dont believe that illegally downloading music has done as much harm as they claim, physical sales have been in decline for a LOT longer than the Internet has existed, if anything downloading has actually given the record industry a shot in the arm....
April 17, 200718 yr Not to take away from the interesting discussion it evoked...but... I don't think this vid was meant to be serious at all, nor do I think it represents any record association or company... it looks like a poor amateur filmmaker was trying to satirize the RIAA and their counterparts. For a much better attempt, see: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/28467 http://www.theonion.com/content/node/43029 http://www.theonion.com/content/node/27696

April 17, 200718 yr Really, hmmm, it was presented on You Tube as being something official.... Well you might be right, but you'd think those Orlando suits would have SOME cash left over from 40 years of raping consumers to come up with a slightly higher-budget and better-written campaign
April 17, 200718 yr Really, hmmm, it was presented on You Tube as being something official.... When you go to the video page the main title says it's a parody! As does the description :o
April 17, 200718 yr Simple Way to Stop Piracy. Make the CDS Cheap enough so people can buy them  i wouldnt mind paying 5-6 pound for any album, but when some of them are 14.99 and so on, its bloody robbery. Awful advert too.
April 17, 200718 yr Author Well you might be right, but you'd think those Orlando suits would have SOME cash left over from 40 years of raping consumers to come up with a slightly higher-budget and better-written campaign   Sometimes though, those "suits" do something grotty and low-budget on purpose, just to prove how 'hip' and 'trendy' and 'street' they are....
