In a late line up of Atomic Rooster the vocalist was none other than

Chris Farlowe - Out of Time

REM released an album called Out Of Time, they also released a song called It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine which featured these lyrics:

The other night I tripped a nice continental drift divide. Mount St. Edelite.

Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.

Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom! You symbiotic, patriotic,

slam, but neck, right? Right.

so here we have Leonard Bernstein performing Beethoven's Ode to Joy

from there to Travelling Wilburys - end of the line

(band invented in Dave Stuarts* kitchen so the radio times would have us believe, use bbc player on their site if you want to hear the doc that i think was on last night, or maybe tomorrow )

* the bloke from eurhymics and fake 1970s band platinum weird, not stiff dude

Before forming Eurythmics, Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox were in the Tourists. So,

Tourists - Loneliest Man In The World

Can't find a video I'm afraid

Buzzcocks lead singer and songwriter Pete Shelley had a huge hit in Australia with

Homosapien

An early form of Homosapien is a Neanderthal.

This leads us nicely into the single recorded in 1970 by an act who became 10cc....

Hotlegs - Neanderthal Man (1970)

Hotlegs album was called 'Hotlegs Think School Stinks" so

Alice Cooper - Schools Out (the muppet show 1978)

this was covered by Daphne and Celeste :cheer: :cheer: and one of my chartbooks says that U.G.L.Y. was based on an old Fishbone record

Fishbone: "Bonin' In The Boneyard"

Blowin', Blowin' ???? Well Van Morrison's 1st album was called 'Blowing Your Mind' The single:

Van Morrison Brown Eyed Girl

On the Ruby Trax compilation, Vic Reeves covered 'Vienna' by Ultravox and filled it full of lies about Belgium e.g. that Van Morrison was born there and that the people there spend all day drinking port.

So...

Ultravox - Vienna

...and please...not Mr Dolce.

Vienna was, famously, kept off the number one spot for four weeks by - only kidding.

Midge Ure has charted with several bands, including

Visage - Fade to Grey

Fade To Grey was recently 'mashed' into a remix of 'You're So Pretty' by The Charlatans, but that's not a good song by them so...

The Charlatans - Weirdo

Chip Hawkes was in the Tremeloes. His son Chesney had a hit in 1991 which featured Saffron from N-Joi / Republica in the video.

So...

N-Joi - Anthem

Saffron was the name of Edina Monsoon's daughter in AbFab. The theme tune was a cover version of

Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and the Trinity - This Wheel's On Fire

'Give Me My Auger Back' was a track by Psychedeliasmith - a short-lived act which Fatboy Slim was very fond of. I believe the 'Auger' in question was a sample of Brian Auger which somebody else (Cut La Roc?) had 'nicked' from Psychedeliasmith.

Anyway, this gives us a chance to link to a Fatboy Slim song from when he was good, so.

Fatboy Slim - Santa Cruz
