Buddy Holly also recorded Peggy Sue Got Married. Another character to appear in two songs by the same singer is Major Tom. So,

David Bowie - Space Oddity

Space Oddity, originally a no.2 released in 1969, was surprisingly an even bigger hit on re-release when it made no.1 in 1975. Another record which was curiously released and successful twice in a very short period was Albatross by Fleetwood Mac which made number 1 in 1968 and number 2 in 1973.

So,

Fleetwood Mac - Albatross

Fleetwood Mac recorded under the alias Earl Vince And The Valiants 'Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonite'. Paul McCartney recorded under the aliases The Country Hams, Percy Thrillington, The Fireman and as Apollo C Vermoth produced

Bonzo Dog band - Urban Spaceman

The Bonzo's appeared in the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour along with

Ivor Cutler - Cockadoodledon't

According to Wikipedia it was Paul McCartney who invited Ivor Cutler to appear in Magical Mystery Tour in 1967.

The Beatles album of 1967 was Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band which was released 40 years ago today (June 1st 1967). Therefore we have to have ........

The Beatles - A Day In The Life

Excellent - and topical - choice. A Day In The Life contains some lines about getting up in the morning. So does

Blur - Parklife.

We've all seen the video hundreds of times so here's a live version - with Phil Daniels of course

I'm going to keep it obvious...

Phil Daniels became famous starring in the movie based on the Who album Quadrophenia.

Therefore we have to have...

The Who - 5:15

As time progresses from 5:15 to 5:55 onwards you could say that you are heading "in the evening" which is the name of a Led Zeppelin track taken from their final album "In Through The Out Door" as is the standout track from it, the power ballad that blows away anything that inferior Led Zeppelin tribute act Queen ever managed.....

Led Zeppelin - All My Love

Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham choked on his own vomit. As did....

bon scott - baby please dont go (AC/DC)

Van Morrison's old band Them had a hit single called "Baby Please Don't Go".

They also recorded this standard....

Them - Gloria

In the T-Rex film 'Born to Boogie', Elton John makes a guest appearance on 'Children of the Revolution' along with...

Ringo Starr...and since we're still going crazy for Sgt Pepper here is Jimi Hendrix's cover of the title track

Jimi Hendirx - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

On the album Sgt Peppers... the title track is the opening song on the album that segues into the introduction of With A Little Help From My Friends so as we can't have Sam & Mark's version of the song (too recent), then lets have Wet Wet Wet's cover ........ (only joking).....

Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends

Ok...I see where we're going. 'With a Little Help From My Friends' is followed on Sgt Pepper by the classic 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds'

But it'd be wrong to say the original version...let's ruin it...

William Shatner - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Elton John had a US#1 hit with a cover of the John Lennon penned Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (which apparently is NOT about LSD and really was based on a painting done by Julian Lennon for a classmate friend Lucy) . Elton also played piano and featured on backing vocals on the only solo US#1 hit single while this musical legend was alive....

John Lennon - Whatever Gets You Through The Night

Sean Lennon had an album on Grand Royale Records and the Beastie Boys were behind that label!!!

so here is one of the best videos evvvvvvvverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

Beastie Boys - Intergalactic

In mock tribute to the Beastie Boys' Fight For Your Right To Party, Public Enemy recorded Party For Your Right To Fight on Yo Bum Rush The Show.

Mind you, that's a country mile from their best work, which would be something like...

Public Enemy - Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos

Public Enemy's Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos was covered by Trip hop Bristol artist Tricky.

So keeping up the 1980s rap theme....
