really?? funny that as I have spoken often in church - have read on altars in many churches, I personally know 2 woman vicars,

as as for Catholics?? well May is the month of Mary ;) (and she was a woman)

The Virgin Mary is a totally and utterly idealised and unrealistic interpretation of a woman ("immaculate conception"?? Come on what utter bullsh!t....) which ordinary Catholic women are expected to aspire to, she is not, and never was, real... Women are still treated by the Catholic Church as something that is "other" because they cannot match up to this ridiculous, iconic, image of 'womanhood' (the Virgin/Whore dichotomy is still, unfortunately, very real in the Catholic Church). Mary Magdalene on the other hand had her character completely defamed as was condemned as a "whore"..... The Catholic Church is one of the most twisted, evil organisations in the world, I should know, I used to be one....

I dont know enough about Islam to feel qualified to be able to criticise it in any meaningful respect, on the other hand, I know a lot more about Catholicism than I wish to.....

I am sorry but you are wrong.

Islamic extreamists marginalise women - but Islam doesn't - in fact women in Islam have much the same rights and respect.

This is quite true actually... I reckon a lot of it is actually down to Politicians or rulers wanting to control the masses (big surprise there...) and (ab)using religion as the tool (but let's face it, if the tool wasn't there in the first place, it couldn't actually be abused...), and as I said, I think that this thing in Iran is more Ahmadinejad's doing than the Clerics... The present Ayatollah in Iran is actually fairly moderate....
