Posted May 1, 200718 yr AN AMERICAN’S GUIDE TO ROBBIE WILLIAMS http://bp2.blogger.com/_m8BngvPfE2M/RjQet2Ytb8I/AAAAAAAAAIg/dbpyePmrlVY/s320/Robbie%20Williams01.jpg There is a man known to thousands of millions of people in the world as one of the greatest living entertainers of our time. This man oozes talent and creative genius – as evidenced by record sales in excess of 100 million and sold out concerts; three record breaking performances at Knebworth in 2003 attracted an audience of 375,000. At 33, he could be at the peak of his seventeen year career, but he is likely to go much higher than this. Robbie has stated in interviews that “I am destined in this lifetime to be an entertainer”. Surely you’ve heard of this man – Robbie Williams??? Aside from Elvis Presley, no other male has had as many number one albums as Robbie. He has been the recipient of many awards — including more BRIT and ECHO Awards than any other artist in history. It is estimated that Robbie Williams is the best selling international artist outside North America this century. He is currently the best selling male artist in the world, for the period 1998-2007, according to the United World Chart, and the third artist overall behind Madonna and Britney Spears. UNKNOWN IN AMERICA But there is one very intriguing stick-in-the-mud concerning RW’s worldwide stardom (he is seriously being called the new King of Pop). He is relatively unknown in America. So how could people in America not know someone who is as famous (in the rest of the world) as Madonna and Britney Spears? http://bp0.blogger.com/_m8BngvPfE2M/RjQe9WYtb9I/AAAAAAAAAIo/J2rLG05M0Xg/s320/robbie_williams_show_128.jpg Well, it’s not your fault. There is this tremendous (many say ‘awesome’) persona of a performer who has taken the world by storm right under the noses of the ever-watchful Americans. But how would you feel, for example – if Peter Jackson decided not to release his epic trilogy ‘Lord of the Rings’ in the states? The rest of the world gets all of the ‘good stuff’ – wouldn’t you be a bit pissed off? Read more here: HERE Thanks to Purerobbie.com.
May 1, 200718 yr Author I advise everyone to click on the link and read it all. That was really great to read. I love such articles. Facts and figures. And it's great to see it written down that he has sold 100 million. I know they must be including TT's sales from when he was in the band, and possibly DVD's sales, but it is simply amazing that he has sold that much at such a young age and only selling a million of it in the worlds biggest market. It's astonishing infact.... As the article says, outside the USA, Rob is the biggest singer today, and so far this century. He has sold something like 41 MILLION albums outside the US just since 2000, that puts him as the 3rd biggest selling music artist in the whole worrld this century, only behind Eminem who is #1 and slightly behind Britney Spears. So if he has sold almost as much as Britney despite being reletivly unknown in the US, then logically there is no need for him to care. Apart from Rudebox, his past 3 albums have all sold over 7m worldwide. There are very few acts in the world who can sell near that figure even WITH America. If he was big in the US and sold about 3m per album, he would no doubt sell 10m + of each album with ease, and would easily be the biggest star in the planet. Look at Justin Timberlake for example, his latest album took near 6 months to sell in the whole world (including the US) what Intensive Care sold in a mere 2 months without even getting a US release, yet he is labelled the biggest star in the planet. It is simply not true, ESPECIALLY when it comes to touring. Robbie is a stadium's act, JT does average sized arenas like Rob did when he was starting off. Even in the US, Justin takes ages to sell out all his dates (I don't even think they are all sold out). It's not like he's playing huge venues, probebly a mex of 20,000. Rob breaks world records for selling out 50-100k standiums in minutes everywhere from Dubia to South Africa. There is no comparison. Same goes to most US acts seemingly. And Rob has done well in the US when you consider he has only spent a few weeks promoting himself there in 11 years. 1 million albums sold, and 3 songs that had healthy runs in the Billboard Hot 100. It seems alot of established acts failt to even make the Hot 100 alot of the time. I do think he is a bit old now though to break it. He does'nt have the same energy he had when he was in his 20's, and it would take a huge amount of endless touring to crack the US, and Rob does'nt like touring so.... And it seems they don't really know what catagory to put him under over there, I recall reading that. I mean he is not some R&B act who depends on Timberland and other huge producers to make them hits, and he does'nt have a middle of the road singer/songwriter sound, so that could be a problem as well. As he said himself, it would be crazy to invite what he has in the rest of the world to the place where he lives.
