July 16, 200717 yr Author I went to see a fantastic Thai horror film called "Shutter" on the same day as I saw "Hostel 2", the contrast between the two films just could not have been more stark, one was a minor Horror masterpiece, the other was an utter shambles..... Oh yeah man Shutter, i got that about 2 - 3 years ago from cd-wow!!! (note to BPI - YOU UTTER UTTER UTTER UTTER BASTARDS!!!!) Asian Horror RULES simply because it's actually bloody SCARY and throws up some seriously disturbing themes, not to mention they concentrate far more on the psychological rather than just throw buckets of fake blood and pigs entrails around..... Man i wouldnt go as far as saying Asian Horror rules, rather thank f*** for people like Hamish McAlpine and his dudes at Tartan for shifting thru all the c**p at film markets and fests the world over. if china/hk produces on av 469 films and japan 238 films per year, then you add all the other SE Asian countries producing stuff and than take out all the cheesy romantic comedies etc etc than you prob be left with still shedloads more horror films than ever get to be shown here/picked up by tartan/prem asia/optinum etc etc. you just have to look at the market guides that screen internetional does each year for fests like Cannes and then you realize there is a lot of $h!te being produced in those terrs as well, just as much as probs produced in Hollywood. I would say that "Severance" is more of an "alternative Hostel" myself... well there was one point in Hostel 2 where i was hoping the big pink yellow bus from Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd would come down the road and turn up to rescue her  yeah Hostel 2 was so totally meh it it could have been improved with a few song and dance numbers!!* now just think John Water's Bollywood Hostel!!!! what a film THAT would be to watch!! http://www.filmiholic.com/images/Honeymoon/honeymoon%20color%20poster%202.jpg *not james blunt obv

I dont think I've actually even seen a decent Horror film come out of America for the past year at least (last good one I saw was Rob Zombie's "Devil's Rejects"), whereas, I've sure seen a LOT of damn good ones coming out of Japan/SE Asia over the same period of time.... There's nobody in Hollywood atm can even touch the likes of Miike Takashi or Takeshi Shimizu when it comes to ratcheting up the tension.....
