Avril Lavigne happy atop pop charts

TOKYO, May. 1 (UPI) --

 

Canadian pop singer Avril Lavigne said simultaneous No. 1 entries on the Billboard album and singles charts "felt really good."

But she added that she wasn't "freaking out" about it.

 

"I don't really think about things; I just do them," said Lavigne, whose hit "Girlfriend" was atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart while her third album, "The Best Damn Thing," topped the Billboard 200 with 286,000 in first-week sales.

 

"I'm just excited to have the record out and for everyone to hear it now. It's actually No. 1 in 15 countries, so it's a really exciting time for me. It's crazy."

 

Lavigne said she won't mount a full tour to promote the album until 2008. She will play some live dates during the summer and in the fall she'll film a starring role in "a dark kind of drama" whose title has not yet been revealed.

The Best Damn Thing spends a 2nd week on top of the Billboard 200 albums lifting it's cume to 408.5k in the US, suffering a drop of 58% in sales however. :( On the Hot100 Avril slips to #2 as Maroon 5 fly in to grab the #1 spot. ^_^

I heard a rumour that the record company are thinking of pulling WYG and having it as the 3rd single and making TBDT single #2 which is a WAAAY bad mood imo. It's too similar to Girlfriend and I really think the song that will help the album sell more will be 'When You're Gone'. -_-

She's currently having quite a moment with her new stuff! Congrats to her ^_^

 

She deffinitely deserves the success that she's getting! The single and the album are both AMAZING, probably my favorite album since Kelly Clarkson's Breakway! I personally love all of the ballads, I can somehow relate to every song on this album...and I LOVE it, this album has officially made me an Avril fan :D

Actually, I can see there marketing in making that decision. Because, it will be released in the middle of the Summer and I think that will help the album sales for being considered a "Summer" album, and the single is just something that would be more popular in the Summer months when everybody is partying and stuff, rather then in the Winter months...which would be more fit for ballads.

 

But I do prefer WYG to TBDT, it is probably my favorite Avril song with Nobody's Home. And if it isn't released next, then it should deffinitely get third release.

Yeh I agree but it is way too similar to 'Girlfriend' and I really can't see it shifting the album if people are going to hear two similar songs it could put them off the album. They want to release a ballad or at least an uptempo song that is different to the first single to shut up all the mongs that are saying she's sold out etc and also ballads do tend to sell albums a lot more. I think 'Loose' is a great example for Nelly Furtado in the UK, the first two singles may have charted higher and sold more but the current two which are a lot slower have helped her album reach its peak almost a year after its release.

You have a point. I think if she releases another up-tempo track, it should be "I Can Do Better"...it's fast but more adult then Girlfriend, or TBDT. But I also think that WYG is a song that can bring her core fanbase back to her that dislike her more pop sound.

I think the best tracks on there are the ballads though, When Your Gone, Innocense & Keep Holding on are sheer brilliance. But I love every song on the album...contagious is the only one I don't love, but it's ok.

Avril sells 85k this week to grab the #3 slot on the Billboard 200 which takes her overall tally to 493k for The Best Damn Thing. ^_^

 

As for the single, Girlfriend slips 2 spots to #4 making room for Ne*Yo and T-Pain. -_-

In the UK this week Girlfriend is down 6 spots to #15 and The Best Damn Thing is down 7 spots to #20. :(

I give up hope with the UK public sometimes <_<

She is deffinitely more popular in the US!
