My favourite group/band

Seriously, there is something about them. they may not be the best singers, but the music, it makes you feel uneased at times, mabye even uncomfortable, but they can really show emotion, and they make some amazing videos

That's kinda how I feel, tbh.... They have interesting voices, not technically great, and they're not Divas, so that's another plus bonus in their favour.... They're not stunningly gorgeous, but still kinda attractive... Just two ordinary Russian girls really.. And yes, I do like the way they can make you feel uneasy or uncomfortable, I like that sort of in-your-face, confrontational side to them.....

I agree with that, i do however think the brown haired one is stunning. But anyway, if i was locked in a room with them and that room had knives, i'd be scared

I don't know if i have already said this in this thread... a little fact, they refused to sing on the world music awards because they weren't allowed to have REAL guns on stage

Me too... I get the feeling that I'd probably be in a "Hostel" type situation there.... There is something kinda scary about them, the threats they made against Charlotte Church I wouldn't actually put past them to actually act on if Church really pissed them off....

< 9:08 julia looks like she is going to t*** the person in the audience  .. i don't understand what they are on about because they are speaking russion but from the snopsis of the video, it's a debate about one of their songs and how it shouldn't be allowed.. (russian version of dangerous and moving.. it's a really good song)

Back when they first came out... their web site had some positively bizarre video "interviews" where the poor girls, who obviously couldn't speak English, we saying "Yes, we like f*** and touch each other in sex. f***ing and sexing" and all kinds of odd, vulgar things. Clearly scripted by their sleazy manager.

I actually loved their first album and as people have said before, they even succeeded in the Smiths cover, which very few artists could ever achieve. My only problem with it was that it was so short, and excluding the remixes and Russian versions, there were only like 6 original songs. Granted I ended up listening to the Russian versions even more.

And, they may sound ridiculous, but I liked their message. I know it was two girls who weren't lesbians and it was probably all done in bad taste to attract extra attention and such. But still. There are plenty of angry and unapologetic lesbians in music but none who dared go after the masses. I liked their attitude and I think it actually resonated with gay people, even if they never wanted to admit it.

Their manager was Trevor Horn, the guy who introduced Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Propaganda and others.... But yeah, he was a right sleazy b/astard in the way he marketed tATu and that's what put me off actually listening them for ages, the fact that they were just clearly faking the whole 'lesbian' angle. Of course now I can see that it wasn't really the fault of the girls, they were young, a bit naive and were being used, they made that pretty obvious when they got rid of Horn and then did "Dangerous and Moving", a rather different beast to the first album, mainly cos they wrote or co-wrote most of it themselves... Shame on Trevor Horn really, up until that point I'd always had a bit more regard for him than the likes of Pete Waterman, Simon Cowell or Louis Walsh... I've always seen the bit in the "All About Us" vid where Julia shoots the bloke as a metaphor for them getting rid of Horn... It's probably what the girls would like to do to him....

In my opinion

the lesbian act brought people in because they werent particularly sexually interested but interested, I mean no-one had really crossed that boundary before, not even Madonna.....and when it turned out to be an act I was well shocked and was like "omg" and then they disappeared....and when they reappeared I was intrigued to see where they were heading next...

There was also a rumour in the UK that there boss was a p Eado and thats why he made them do the lesbian act.. i'm sure he was banned from coming in to the UK aswel

dont no if he (Ivan) was a prop p**** or what, think he was just out to cause controvosy because he also tried to do that t.A.T.y reality tv show that ended up being f***ed up and also had that idea for that singing suicide bomber in a burker n.A.T.o.

anyway Yulia got a 3 year old kid from i think a dude who was boyband member (but not NANA who wanted to go up in space)

no man Ivan Shapovalov was their manager, Trevor Horn had nothing to do with the creation of the group and only came along about 3 years after the album was actually released in Russia (this a country where it was said NANA were #1 for a year  ) to improve the mixes and production for the western market. this is my first copy of their album, the one with robot on

 Робот

 you can hear how the production is much different and doesnt sound like propaganda. Robot is great pop record even tho its not as bombastic as the later chart topping horn mixes.

tho tbh i actually havent played the English versions for ages as i love Нас не догонят and Я сошла с ума (Ya Soshla S Uma) in their original Russian and these are the ones i try to sing along to!!!!

btw was horn responsible for the naughty FGTH stuff (rather than just the prod) or was that Paul Morley's creation/design/marketing

I thought they had a Russian manager. However I had a huge amount of respect for Trevor Horn (ABC, FGTH, Art Of Noise, Buggles, Yes, Godley & Creme, Seal, Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones, Belle & Sebastian, Paul McCartney, Dollar, etc) until tATu came along, and then it was badly damaged with him playing a part in the whole contrived Lesbian Paedophile imagery. Even his fellow former ZTT colleague Paul Morley thought they pushed things too far.

as i said it was all Ivan's creation, Horn was just there for production on the western mixes. the video was done before horn was involved (about 2 - 3 years before hand)

Hmm, not sure I believe that tbh.... I dont think Horn was entirely as innocent in the whole affair as you think....

They were barely 14 when the made the 'Robot' video, how sickening :/
c**p i didnt know they had so many songs. i only knew about All The Things She Said. are they straight? was the lezo thing a publicity stunt? i dont understand some people. its just not they way things were meant to be

Of course it was... One of the girls actually had a secret abortion... Which means, well, obviously she shagged a bloke... Something a Lesbian tends not to do.....

Does anyone remember their Eurovision entry in 2003? Can't remember what position they finished but I think it did very well.

and Yulia, said that they have grown up and that is why they aren't lesbians anymore but they still love each other.. but they were forced to do the public kissing by their manager/ told to say stuff that they didn't understand..
